[News] Late For Work 6/16: How Long Till Breshad Perriman Is A Starter?

66 posts in this topic

I kinda thought he was already a starter...

1.perriman

2.smith

3.Kamar

4.Brown

5.Campanero

Everything I've read so far has Aiken as a starter with Smith. Perriman and Brown are currently competing for the 3rd receiver spot.

IMO RR paid the price, and was very pro-active in getting help, prior to the league mandating it....Wouldn't hurt my feelings if we even signed him back...If Hardy can get signed, then RR surely should get signed somewhere...

They're not just going to hand it to him. He has to earn it. This time last year C.J. Mosley was not listed as a starter. He earned it during camp and preseason. This time last year Josh Bynes was considered the starter. It's just not Harbaughs style to call a rookie the starter this time of the year.

I think unless Perriman falls on his face, the best thing for him and the Ravens is to throw him out there and let him get accustomed to being a #1.

We have the Luxury to work him into the line-up, the key for Perriman isn't the deep ball, but the crossing routes, understanding the audibles, he can be a complete WR, and i think the plan is to work him into that, but to start he will run quick slants, back shoulder, bubble screens, and of course going down town....But that's a lot for any WR to process...SSS can read a defense, and Joe will see the same thing, and they will know exactly what route to run, that takes some time....

Week 1. He is too physically gifted to keep of the field. Flacco will spread the ball around and we will run a decent amount of 3WR sets. We are going to light it up this year. Flacco looks like he's about to become at Top 3 QB.

Smith and Aiken are terrific over the middle, chain movers. We saw Aiken's hands last year. That said, Perriman is the one who can fly past the defense. I find it hard to not see him on the field early. Even if it means 3 WR sets. You put your best players on the field. I said it in the last article but I like this teams chances against anyone based on roster. It is the potential for injuries that keep my expectations in check.

I 100% agree with you, and I too would like to see Rice back as a Raven.  If not a Raven, than I hope Rice finds a good team.

I think the issue is with keeping and signing players like Ray Rice is all of the outside negativity.  If fans are happy with their favorite franchise signing a player in Rice's situation, than so be it.  Should a franchise really care what non-fans care?  non-fans aren't going to buy the jerseys, memorabilia and season tickets either way.

Why in the world would you bench a 1st and maybe a 2nd and just maybe a 3rd and 4th draft pick and pay them good money to become a Raven and say you are not a Starter, Pre Season camps doesn't bring out their true characters and greatness until they hit the battlefield, look what the Ravens did to Joe Flacco in his 1st season, you trying to tell me he was lucky, I don't think so, he had a very good OC in Cam Cameron, the Ravens threw him to the wolves and look how Great he's been, You will never know about a player until it happens in reality. Ray Rice should be given a 2nd chance, what he did was terrible I know.

No player in the NFL has paid anywhere near the extreme price for any DV incident than Ray Rice. Not even close. Ray deserves another chance and paid dearly for what he did. I still believe Ray Rice is a man worthy of redemption.

Perriman has the size and speed to take it to the house, whether is from getting behind the secondary or a quick slant, where he needs to break a tackle and use his speed to take it to the house....They will have set plays for him regardless if he is a so-called starter or not, as we rotate our WR's.....

And all this based on a few days of non contact OTA's. Amazing.

No other player in the NFL had their DV incident on video for the world to see.  That's the ONLY reason Rice isn't playing now. If his incident wasn't on tape, he probably still be a Raven. DV was a problem for the NFL for awhile, but we never saw an actual incident go down until Rice. I hate that it had to be Ray, but it is what it is.

Months before the camp and pre-season, I don't think it would be wise to put him on top of the depth chart right away. He'll have more than enough chance to prove he belongs there until Week#1 and here's hoping he will - but to put him ahead of Steve Smith right away... I guess that's a tad premature at this point.

That said, we all hope Perriman proves to be what we all hope he will, don't we?

I think Perriman will be a starter as the season progresses, not right away. I am very encouraged by the talent our offense will field this year; it's going to be exciting to watch.

Also, as a woman speaking, I believe Ray Rice deserves a second chance. Yes, his actions were horrific, but he has atoned for his mistake and should be given another chance.

Yep, they all have the same opportunity to do so.

Besides, lets keep it real, with the new CBA "contact" during training camp is basically non existent.

I've been a Brown homer since he came in, so personally i want to see him tear it up in camp, and pre-season games to get that #2 or #3 Spot....

that is complete nonsense. Aiken's Ota performance based on non-contact drills. Perriman will be the #2 wideout right away and eventually #1 in next year!!

top 4 WR's will get plenty of work during the season, but like many have stated, Harbs makes you earn your PT....

he may not be the #1 receiver persay by week 1- but he will get plenty of oppurtunities. i think they are going to do alot of rotating guys in and out trying to create mismatches and see who has the hot hand. but i have no doubt that they will try to get perriman going early on.

I certainly do realize 100% that video of  the incident is surely the reason Ray Rice was treated more harshly than any other DV in the league. I realize that DV is not new to the league and that a video made all the difference in the outcome. I just hope a team picks him up. I wish more players who know and support him would publically say so. Ray unfairly took on the wrath and hatred of millions as the national poster boy for DV. It would be nice if more positive support of his character surfaced. Ray did so much for his community, he is a great locker room presence and I believe Ray to be an honorable man who has made amends to those he loves. Thanks to Torrey and Derrick for having Ray's back and speaking up.

1. The Ravens had zero intention of making Joe the starter in his first year. Kyle Boller suffered a season ending injury before the season started, and Troy Smith had an illness I believe that made Joe the starter Week 1.

2. Draft picks should always earn their playing time just like anybody else should. By the time they put pads on and complete training camp and the preseason, we will see where the dust settles. If the coaching staff thinks he hasn't performed better than Aiken or Brown, then he doesn't start... its that simple. The coaching staff is in the best possible position on the planet to make that judgment. I expect him to win that job, but there is precedent. Even Matt Elam didn't technically win a starting job in his first season... he lost the SS battle in camp to Ihedigbo and only became a starter when we realized how bad Huff was.

There's dozens of players who all think they deserve a shot to play, and in reality, many of them will never get that chance.

Agreed. Just because a guy is drafted in round 1 or 2 (Any round really) does not automatically make him starting caliber. Look around the league and you can see undrafted players starting in place of drafted players. Earning a spot is the only way. Players will tell you, "Nothing is given"

Perriman is going to be a beast I can feel it. Version of Julio Jones like Perriman said and I think he will be. Same instincts as Julio but Faster.
