I think that until Art Model is finally put in the football hall of fame, Cleveland will stay under this curse! Wake up Cleveland!

Good article J.E. I'm kinda rooting for the Cavs too. My wife's from Cleveland. All my

in-laws still live there. Thanksgiving dinners haven't been good. They could improve if the Cavs win.

There's more juicy intrigue involved here. The coach that Modell hired in the last few years in Cleveland was Bill Bellichick. Bellichick is the one who hired Ozzie originally. Modell and Bellichick fell out over the chaos of the final days in Cleveland. The Modells chose to make Ted Marchibroda the head coach of the Ravens in a bid for continuity in Baltimore since Marchibroda was one of the head coaches in the final years of the Colts before that infamous mayflower trip. Ironically when the Ravens hired him he had just been fired after a three year stint in Indy.

Part of the reason Cleveland is so angry is because Belichick went on to such success as well.

And all of that intrigue is before we even mention the 1995 draft where Belichick traded Cleveland's 1st spot to SF who they used to draft JJ Stokes ( the Niners wanted him to replace Jerry Rice) in exchange for what turned out to be SF's 1996 first rounder, the 26th pick overall in 96, a little known guy named Ray Lewis. That's the backstory of how Ozzie nailed two Hall of Famers in his first draft.

It's not so hard to sympathize with Cleveland's fans, especially for older Colts fans. Baltimore is probably the one place that totally gets what they went through. And it can't be easy seeing little reminders of what "could have been" in the headlines for the last two decades.

I just dont like sports where the title match is the best out of. Like the best out of 7. Bring your best players and play 1 game leave it all on the field. The win means so much more when its only 1 game.

There are pluses and minuses each way. On the flip side you really can whittle down to who is genuinely the better team when you eliminate the possibility of "off nights."

It's moot anyway. No way they can have a best-of-whatever series in football. It's too physically demanding a sport.

No I just dont see it that way. Your right football is too physical but I still like the Super Bowl more than 7 games trying to decide who is better. Bring it right now and put up or shut up. Thats the Super Bowl. What the 7 games is is the owners trying to make as much money as possible.

baseball, hockey and basketball have always been a "series" game... you play teams multiple times and attempt to win stretches of games, especially in baseball, when you have a mini-series every three days.

Soccer and Football is WAY too demanding to have a series of games... it would take 6 months to do the playoffs!

I agree with #judent, until the cleveland sports writers concede and vote Art into the hall of fame for his contributions to "football" I hope they continue to suffer a drought.. Specially after that idiot cleveland fan whizzed on Modell's gravesite. The epitome of disrespect, considering all the philanthropic endowments to cleveland from the Modell's.

Well John, here's how I see it because my mind and thought process is quite simple really. For starters, I do support the Cavs winning the title this year, but simply because I am a fan of LeBron James, the player who allows me to watch the NBA every once in a while especially after MJ retired. However, my thought process of supporting the Cavs isn't as drawn out as yours is. It is simpler and far less complex. I could care less if Cleveland never had a championship if LeBron was playing elsewhere frankly.

Of course, I'm all for Art Modell being voted into the hall of fame but be honest, if it were the other way around and Art took OUR team to Cleveland, would WE vote him in? I don't think so. I know I wouldn't. It happened in our favor and I am forever grateful for that. I'm not rooting for ANY Cleveland sports franchise because they are our rivals and in certain they feel the same as we do. That could of easily been the Ravens logo and Joe's face plastered on that jumbo-Tron and that stadium would of erupted just like with Pittsburgh's logo.

You know... that infuriates me to say that we are somehow responsible for Cleveland's lack of a title. And that we have our own writers saying that "You could build a case" stating so??? They have had 20 years to build a team. The fact that they haven't been able to has NOTHING to do with Baltimore. Get some front office staff that know how to build a team....  choose players...  Time to move on and get over that whole premise. It's your owners, people!

YUP!!! and as far as the Browns go I will never cheer for them. I dont really care if any team wins a title in cleveland. Their fans dont like us and I just dont care if their teams win.  I always pull for the Browns to lose except for maybe when they are playing the Steelers or Bengals then it all stacks up to the AFC north rankings and what helps the Ravens more.

i have no problem with cleveland winning winning a championship in basketball. they could become a dynasty greater than the celtics or lakers of the '80's and i wouldn't care. as far football or baseball, cleveland can continue with their current tradition of losing. after all the indians do make the orioles look great at times. and, the browns make the raiders look like potential super bowl contenders with their front office player assessments. until cleveland starts getting "football" people in the front office, the browns will be nothing more than a semi-pro team masquerading as a pro-team

the real reason for the series in basketball and baseball is simple...MONEY. Why not spread it out over 7 games and make millions more thru TV and attendance. Its all about the green.

I couldn't care any less Cleveland's championship woes.

You get what you earn when you earn it in this league.

Their managerial ineptness continues to this day and Ozzie would fail miserably for the same reason Mike Pettine and Farmer is having trouble. The ownership can't get out it's own way.

The only role we have in Cleveland's title droughts is by beating them in the season. I'm so tired of them using the "...because of Art Modell" excuse. They suck because their front office and whoever's running that team is inept. Indy's won a championship, but it didn't stop us from winning two, beating them all the while, and possibly winning a third by next year and we did this without peeing on someone's grave. Nothing against Lebron but I hope that team loses.

That would be OK if bball was a 20 game season.  But they play close to 90 games in the regular season. It's only right that they have a series to decide the champ.

they play well over 100 in baseball and one of the main reasons for a series is bc they have a rotation of pitchers.

Sami [who obviously studied under my favorite filmmaker, David Lynch,  in use of camera angles] you are my kind of cynic.

This is pretty much how I feel. Modell left Cleveland's colors and history in Cleveland and they got a sweet deal from the NFL with expansion. That city did not suffer anywhere the insult to injury we endured here in Baltimore when Irsay relocated our team, yet they want to act like they did.

I wish Baltimore will have an NBA team hopefully in the near future. Who ever wins this next game Game 5 will win the finals. This game is extremely important for both teams to win if they want to win a championship.
