[News] Cornerback Rashaan Melvin Confident As Ever

44 posts in this topic

Good to know Melvin is resilient enough to not have let his confidence be shattered by the Pats game. I admire Melvin's rebounding confidence and maturity to move past that game and use every failure as a chance to learn and get better.

Melvin didn't show me much. Against Brady, he came up zilch. I could say he lost the game. Eight or nine months down the road isn't going to make him any better. He will perform equally bad against any opposing top QB. He may feel more confident starting to play somewhere else. I haven't been negged in awhile so bring it on.

Melvin exceeded EVERY expectation set for him last season.  You couldn't ask for a better performance or effort from him leading up to the Pats game.  He had one bad game, unfortunately it happened at the worst possible time.  Keep grinding Melvin, your efforts last season were definitely appreciated.

Did you even watch the 3 games he played prior to the Pats?  IMO, he was the best CB on the field during that stretch.

8 or 9 months wont make him better?

The more practice the better. He held his own during the regular season and playoff Pittsburgh. I like Melvin we have a hungry secondary! Let's see what they got!

He's young and has time to get better. He had a terrible day in Foxboro but, like i said, he's young and is entitled to a bad game considering he was a practice squader before being thrust into a starting role here and played admirably up until that particular game. I'd happily argue that he was the reason we even made it to Foxboro, not because he was amazing but because he stabilized the secondary enough to allow our rushers to rush and take some burden off the hampered secondary. His snaps will clearly go down but he'll get plenty of playing time in a relief role and as our probably #1 backup on the outside (as everyone knows Arrington should not be put outside).

So one bad game while injuried while going against the GOAT and he sucks?

Due to that NE game many want to put him in the PS and make him scratch his way out.   In fact Elam should  go there to proove he's worthy .

I saw that and I agree. In the NE game he had a bad really bad awlful trick play right out of high school tripped on him. It did look pathetic but overall without that he still qualifies as a US citizen. Unfortunately, many of us hurled after that.

He's going to be a "Difference Maker" off the bench!  :D

The Football Gods deem that a Rashaad Melvin, who is NOT making the top CB Bucks cannot bump a big money starter like Web,...

... but he's going to make us  say "Another Corey Graham"!  :oldwiseman:

Arrington will be at slot corner, that's a given. Melvin will compete with Jackson, Webb, Vaughn and Walker for the other outside corner.

This is a really deep secondary with some great talent in Smith and Hill. The extensive competition at corner should produce a high quality level of play come game time regardless who is in there. I think it will be Webb or Jackson.

This guy impressed me the most last year. I mean everyone played hard, but Melvin was put in as a starter on a team he spent little time with, in a critical playoff setting in front of a national audience. Was he perfect, no, but man did he play his heart out! Got my respect, I can see him taking the number three position this year, maybe even sub for Webb and Jimmy so they can get a blow once in a while. If he can get down the technique, who knows how far he goes! GO RAVENS!

I don't see Melvin competing with Arrington as Melvin played much better as an outside corner so I think that's where he'll be backing up Jimmy and Webb.

Harbaugh will put the best players on the field, regardless of how much money they make. He showed that last year when Monroe, who just signed a $37,500,000 contract, was healthy and available for the postseason, but he stuck with Hurst, an undrafted rookie, who I'm assuming was making close to the league minimum.

you have to have top 4 cb's as teams go 4 wide, or 3 wide and a TE wide...And the way we rotate on defense everyone will get some PT.....

I think the Ravens secondary could be better if they moved Webb to FS. It would keep him healthier playing center field and it's a position he played before. Brooks/Hill to compete at SS cause both have range and are big hitters. Put Asa in the slot and let our bigger CB press outside. If our pass rush is at least as good as it was last year, Ravens could have a great secondary.

Good luck to our entire secondary this year. Last year was an outlier (too many injuries at a single position), but this year we'll be alright. We need good depth at CB and this year we have plenty of talented players 5-6 of who will make the roster - the best 5 or 6! I believe Melvin will be one of them.

I'm definitely a believer in rashaan melvin. This guy was a practice squad player an then signed by us an then thrown into playoff football. The guy had new clue about our defense an never played a real game. He had a bad game in foxboro against one of the best qbs ever an they barely beat us. He showed improvement during those games an will be even better next year. Keep balling dog!!

Melvin is UFA in 2013 and he's been tier 3 and 4 backup player; tell a guy who never had starter experience, not even in playoff go perform at the highest level in the playoff? that is too much to ask, but he exceeds expectation and performs at the highest level. He got schooled by the most crafted HOF coach/QB combination in NFL history, which isn't bad at all. I'll bet he learns a tons from one bad performance in the divisional playoff game. I dare Brady challenge him this season!...Go Melvin and Ravens!

I hope the Texans can release Johnathan Joseph so Ozzie can scoop him up. Having Joseph would make our secondary even more dangerous. Rashaan Melvin will be another great corner in this league another version of Cary Williams went on the practice squad and then became a starter Rashaan would be the same noticing around the league.
