[News] John Urschel, James Hurst Aim To Be Super Subs

28 posts in this topic

I wish the future would be James Hurst LT, K.O. LG, Urschal C, Marshal Yanda RG, and Rick Wagner Rt but Monroe is under contract for at least 2 years due to dead money. Could've save more money for K.O. and Yanda. Monroe is okay but not that dominant to me. James Hurst would've been a cheaper option for LT.

What other team has the luxury of switching out lineman during a game? Seems like every other team has to ride the starters from start to finish. It'll be pretty amazing if we can give our starting olineman a rest during a game.

Monroe could be released after 2015 and only the balance of his bonus would be due.  It would save $2.1M against the 2016 cap.  They can release Zuttah after 2015 also and save $1.4M against the 2016 cap.  The question is, would $3.5M be enough to resign both K.O. and Yanda?

@MKM3917 well, it would gives us an extra boost to sign both K.O. and Yanda. Remember the affect of Ray Rice and Haloti dead money would be gone plus reducing Joe cap number it would add up. So cutting Monroe and Zuttah maybe could be enough for K.O. and Yanda we will probably won't have $3.5M it probably be around 10 to 15M in cap space or maybe more if you count everything we might have a shot keeping them both. But it would be so easier if they extend K.O. now so they could save a lot of money.

Doesn't mean he cant be traded! Ozzie could probably land 4th round pick for him from a team thats in need of a LT

Great attitude from the two...and great to have them both be part of the team. Urschel is extremely valuable bc we have two G's this year and a C next season up for contract negotiations.... Urschel gives us a ton of leverage and he is only getting better! Hurst on the other hand really did impress me last season. He has some rough patches but what rookie wouldn't at that position. He showed improvement over the course of the season and I hope that he continues to progress. He has already showed more then Jah Reid!

love the mentality of this years offense. they seem to understand that the ultimate goal is achieved with team and not individual numbers. hope it continues to be contagious and infects the ravens defensive secondary. if so, vegas will lose tons of money with their 9 win prediction. maybe the road to san francisco will go through baltimore.

Last year, a lot of critisism was laid on Hurst.  He has a chance to step up and go one up with the strongest O line in the NFl.  Even Teddy Bruski old NE 54 ranks us over his Patriots compadres. .

James hurst couldn't block period. Urschel came in and performed well some guys are just backups for a reason.

Hurst played well last year and is going to be a great lineman in this league.

We are blessed to have 7 starting-quality offensive lineman as there will be minor injuries throughout the year. Having Hurst and Urschel last year was huge.

It doesn't matter howmuch cap money we have, ozzie isn't going to over pay anybody. He has a certain number for a top Guard and that's what he'll offer K.O. and Yanda.

hell i was very impressed with Urschel, he played better in my opinion than some of the other more highly touted lineman that were drafted ahead of him. Hurst had his bumps and bruises but LT is a tough spot to play in the NFL so it didn't surprise me that he struggled some.

For an undrafted free agent Hurst did great. By the playoffs he was playing better than most of the FIRST ROUND LT's of that year.

It's great to have back ups that could possibly start on other teams. Great depth. If all the back ups could step in without missing a beat, we'll be in great shape.

I knew hurst was gonna pop. He was a beast in college. That knee injury won't stop him. Another bad season by Monroe he might be our starter. I don't mind.!!

Hurst is great. He is a weaker lineman but would never get beat off the ball and would always stay in front of his man. There were a lot of plays where Harrison or Chandler drove this guy but couldn't get him off them. He should come back 10x better if he got strogner. His technique is already good.

You have a good viewpoint.  I would not call him weaker.  Perhaps an adverb like less gifted would be an apt description.  Welcome aboard.

Urschel is already a probowl caliber back up and Hurst is going to get there. Hurst's is obviously the tougher assignment but seeing how he was thrown into the fire last year and came out with only 3rd degree burns tells me this year will be a whole lot better!

I didn't really think about Zuttah being signed only through this upcoming season with all the talk being about Yanda and KO. Man, that's 3/5ths of our Very good OL! I, like many it seems, have been disappointed in the play of Monroe. I really expected him to be better than he's shown, but all this talk is basically suggesting that almost our entire OL could be blown up! We're blessed to have Urschel and Hurst, but if they become starters due to losses in personnel who would we have in the way of backups? Jah Reid? Man, I'm hoping that he isn't even here. Depending on how this all plays out, we could really be trying to focus on offensive linemen in next year's draft, and we all know that Ozzie lives and dies by the BPA method. We should be much better off as far as cap money goes next year, but even considering that, Ozzie has a set figure in his mind of how much he'll pay at each position and he just Won't overpay. As well as our OL played last year, it's a bummer to think about just how many changes we might be in store for following this season. It will be VERY interesting to see how all this plays out with our OL due to all the FAs we'll have at the end of the year. Somehow, any way at all, I would truly love to see Ozzie be able to satisfy both Yanda and KO, because along with Wagner I think those three represent most of the strength of our OL. Upgrading at Monroe's LT position would be nice, and using Urschel at center, re-signing Zuttah, or something wouldn't be bad, but it's going to be tough to do I believe. Oh well, let's just enjoy This season and see how it all plays out.

Look at the tape CAREFULLY against the pats when

Joe threw our season away! James Hurst "PANCAKED" his man and Joe had the ENTIRE left side of the field to run up the sideline for a 1st down and run down the clock! SMH Hurst is the MAN! I like Joe but it is what it is! Red me up I can stand alone I did it when the ART, moved to Bmore and I followed them!

I understand your loyalty - I followed the Colts for a couple years after they moved (at 15, it was hard to give up rooting for my favorite players).

As for that last play, you're right, Hurst did flatten his guy, but it looked like Flacco had already started his throwing motion at the time. Now, I like Torrey as much as the next guy, but the interception was on him - Flacco actually made a good throw, and if Torrey actually went up to make a play on the ball, its either a TD or incomplete pass at the worst:

I think we re-sign KO and Zuttah.... i would love to see us re-sign Yanda too but he may be less likely (due to age and money)? Hope we can get a hometown discount but it is good to know that Urschel is capable and ready anywhere in the interior! He has turned out to be a very valuable commodity and may prove his value even beyond? Nice to have players like Urschel and Hurst... (hope Myers turns out to be like those two)@!

wow- I was always on the fence about the interception being Torrey's fault.. But after that video its crystal clear to me now. He obviously pulls up while the balls in the air. All he had to do was keep running and then leap infront of the safety... It really did seem like he didn't want to get hit. I just don't know why else he would have taken his eyes off the ball- it actually looked like a near perfect throw if u ask me. I feel bad that's the way Torrey had to end his career in baltimore - but it is what it is. It also really stings to see the whole left side of the feild open as soon as flacco is going into his throwing motion. He could have easily jogged for Atleast 20 yards, gotten the first down and kept the clock running. Man that hurts. Edited by January J

I had the same reaction when I first saw that video. While I appreciate everything Torrey accomplished for the Ravens, that last play was a terrible way to end his career here. I'll admit, when I posted that video, it was the first time I noticed how open that left side was (Hurst did a great job), and it's kind of like pouring salt into an open wound.

exactly - and you know I'm almost certain that perriman comes away with that catch. I can just see him jumping up and snatching that thing out of the air.
