[News] Kelechi Osemele Bought His Mom A House

24 posts in this topic

Truly a GREAT gesture and I'm sure his mom deserves it, but reading the article it appears he was premature doing so. He basically stated he'll pay for it w/ a contract he doesn't have yet.

Dont worry about being too far from the extended Ravens family either Kelechi... I live 10 minutes away from Katy and Ravens Nation is strong down in Houston.

always remember those that carried you. forget those that dropped you. the ones that love ask for nothing; the ones that use ask for everything.

When Moms gets taken care of after decades of raising their kids, it is a beautiful thing. The way it ought to be. Men and women like Osemele and Urschel, whether they are an athlete or not, is what makes the world a little better. God bless Moms.

My kids would never buy me anything because that's the way It should be, If I can't afford for myself then I can do without. My job as a father is to provide for my family and they should provide for theirs so Pay It Forward

Great Story. It's nice to see football providing a means to take care of the most important things in life, Family.

It's particularly touching to me that Osemele appears to have experienced some bumps in the road growing up having Mom under the strain of working 3 jobs to support the family. The bottom line is that in the end Osemele let go of whatever caused him a lot of "pain", then came to understand and feel gratitude for all his mother sacrificed in order to raise 4 kids on her own. Being a single parent can be pretty tough. Kudos to both Osemele and Urschel.

Many athletes have insurance that protects them in case of injury. Each insurance is different. An example, K.O. is rated very high to likely get a contract extension and probably has insurance in the millions if he is permanently hurt before the next contract. What may work for K.O. may not work for another player, for example, a player playing on the practice squad will not be able to get the same kind of insurance because they are less likely to land a big contract than K.O., each injury insurance agreement is based on probabilities of each athlete. K.O. likely bought the house knowing he is secure either way.

Props to KO and John For taking care of their moms. If we all had the opportunity to make a better life for our parents we would do the same.

A truly wonderful pair of stories. Way to go, guys! I do wonder if we won't see Kelechi playing in Houston next year so he can live with mom.

Popeye, I cancelled out your neg because I understand how you feel after reading your second post. But, there are all kinds of situations in life and many things to consider. In instances where children are extremely fortunate in life and wind up being financially blessed, it is only normal that they would want to help their parents. I, somewhat like you, would find it difficult to be comfortable with my children helping me financially. I've always adhered to the philosophy that parents want their children to have a better life than they did. Unfortunately, this generation has been the first in American history when that has not been the case. Nevertheless, what I'm trying to tell you is that if your children were as successful financially as pro football players are, at least a number of them anyway, they could not only afford to take care of their children, but they could afford to help their parents too. This is, actually, a very heartwarming story of two fine men who have their priorities in proper order. The article makes it quite apparent that they have been living very modestly themselves and have done so so that they could do something they have always wanted to do, which is to help their mother. I choose to applaud them, enjoy their sense of gratitude, and respect them for it. For the record, I respect you as well for not expecting your children to do the same and for, instead, hoping that they will follow your example and sacrifice and work in order to provide for their own children.

I thought the very same thing, but I sure hope not.
