[News] Former Pro Bowler Matt Schaub Not Changing Mindset As Backup

25 posts in this topic

"...and helped turn them into a perennial playoff contender."

Garrett, I think they've only been in the playoffs twice since their founding in 2002. We knocked them out in 2011 and NE trounced them in 2012. And he broke his foot early in 2011, the QB was TJ Yates for the better part of the season and in the playoffs.

The problem Schaub and the Texans suffered is the one downside of Kubiak's system -- you gotta have healthy playmakers. The thing that got Schaub, Kubiak and his crew canned was largely the bad back and hamstring of Arian Foster. You can't have a league-leading RB playing seriously hurt in a run-first offense and expect defenses to respect the run the same way at the expense of the pass.

Arian Foster was literally carrying that franchise on his back in 2013. And it's not for nothing that Forsett thrived with us with his knowledge and therefore patience and discipline in letting those zones develop like Foster used to.

If you all think Forsett was good, wait til we find fresh-legged thick-bodied RB with a lethal first cut in this scheme.

i hope flacco never get injured, but i am glad to hear a veteran that could get maybe a starter job on any other place, instead choose our organization...that talks a lot about us..but at the same time we all already knew that.

Reports of Int's and short hopping are very concerning, especially since he is to have some knowledge of the Offensive system coming in.

I really like the addition of Matt Schaub. The potential of the 2015 Raven's defense to hold their opponent under 20 points per game. Joe will feast on it if it can stand. The Ravens have a veteran who can get the job done if needed. This isn't Tyrod or Troy. This QB has led his team into the playoffs. It must feel sweet to be here.

on the fence with Schaub, the last few years i have seen him play it appeared his arm was pretty much dead, i hope to see him have some zip on the ball once training camp opens, and see what kind of decision making he makes when he is under fire...The signing made sense because he knows Kubiaks offense....

I see Joe fire that ball downfield, and look at some of the other guys and they just look "flat".  While they are similar in height and weight, I think that's where the physical similarities end, the game style too, but not the ability....  which Kubiak installed, on both teams.

If he sees the field I hope it's only because were up by so many points, there's no reason for Flacco to continue playing, other than that...Flacco please.

He will also be great in Film Study and with the second string recievers becuase he is so familiar with the West coast system. His value extends past the field.

Matt Schaub is a two times ProBowler and led the league in passing in 2009...and now he's backing up Joe "but, but, he never had a 4000 yrd season, so can't be a great QB" Flacco. Shows you how misleading stats can be.

I think Matt Schaub could be a starter somewhere, we are lucky to have a first rate QB as a backup for Flacco. I still remember as a kid how Earl Morrall would have to step in for the injured Johnny Unitas and win back a losing game. People should not underestimate the importance of this position. God forbid anything happens to Flacco, but if needed, I think the Ravens have the right guy. GO RAVENS!

When the pre-season games begin we'll probably see some of him then. It'll be interesting seeing what he still has. Of course this will most often be against the opposition's second string but it will still be interesting.

Matt could be a real x-factor in the Ravens success this year. The Ravens 2nd team work outs will benefit greatly with Matt at the helm. His style is much like Joes and he has the talent to develop the young players so that they are ready. Great to have a QB like Matt willing to go out and play like a Raven!

I really don't get all the praise for Schaub. If he is so good as people say, don't you think he would be starting for a team? Heck even a Qb starved Cleveland didn't sign him. He has completely lost his mojo IMO. I am reading about the OTA's and and he continues to throw interceptions. Not just INT's, but pick 6 Int's. Not to mention bouncing balls short. A rookie beat him out in Oakland for the starting job. His last year with the Texans was abysmal and he still had Adrian Foster running the ball and Andre Johnson as his go to receiver. If we keep him, we better hope Flacco stays healthy.
