[News] Late For Work 6/8: Franchise Tag For Justin Tucker? So Far So Good For Breshad Perriman

76 posts in this topic

Health-wise, Welker is more likely to be bust than a help. With multiple concussions, Welker's durability is a valid  concern. A slot receiver would help the offense but we will be better off developing our own young guys with Camp or Carter. It will be tough enough to cut some of these talented young WRs anyway, why take the roster spot for Welker causing another WR to be cut?

We do not need Welker.... How many balls did we see him drop in the clutch... In N.E. and in Denver... I don't agree with the whole "going after Welker" thing at ALL!

Agree...no Welker. He's a patriot for life in my eyes.

I know Perriman will be more productive than Torrey, but have my fingers crossed that he might be a Dwayne Bowe in the making

I think it would be short sighted to sign Welker at this point. Give the youth some time to show their potential on the field. Welker makes no sense even in terms of adding a slot guy. He is injury prone and 34. It's not like he has the durability or skills of a 35 yr old Steve Smith. Camp may have trouble staying healthy, but at least he is young.

Welker? Who is now prone to a concussion walking, hatless, in a 30 MPH wind!

ESPN's Field Yates says "yes"!

And who, again, is Yates?  <_<

I don't know why we are even having this discussion regarding tagging KO. There isn't an interior lineman in this entire NFL that is worth $13M a season, and I'd argue there aren't TWO guards in the NFL who combined are worth more than $13M a season. Its just simply not an option.

A concussion prone Welker shoring up an injury prone Camp? R U kidding me? I can see Welker as a camp body for 3 months but not making the team. DeAndre Carter would be a far better Camp backup and bring more to the table.

How many Welker articles/comments do we need to read?  He had 3 concussions last season, that tells me everything I need to know.  Don't waste a roster spot on someone who continually gets injured.

"ESPN's Field Yates named Baltimore as one of three potential landing spots for the concussion-prone 34-year-old slot receiver."

If anything, an ESPN- (or NFL.com-) "analyst" predicting such a thing makes it more unlikely to happen... I'm quite convinced these guys do it like "OK, he's a veteran WR, which rosters need a veteran WR?" - and will forget about all the myriad of other factors that may or do come in when these decisions are made.

Need in a certain position is only one of the factors. For these "analysts" it's the only factor.

No to Welker. NO NO NO!!!. We have plenty of young talented receivers. Let them play and get better. Tired as hell of the old washed up WR's they bring in. SSS was the exception that worked out.

Reassuring news about Perriman consistently securing the ball. All the media hoopla about drops hurt Perriman's draft status but it actually helped him fall to us. Not worried about Perriman coming up big for the Ravens this year and for years to come. Perriman is going to be an outstanding WR.

Welker is going to Houston. They're all about padding the retirement funds of Patriot's has-beens before they retire.

Also, agree with RMC, as much sense as tagging Tucker makes, tagging KO or Yanda makes no sense whatsoever.

I have a feeling Perriman is going to become a Julio Jones type impact player in this league and by far the best WR the Ravens have ever drafted.

Why bring in Welker when we're loaded at receiver? Doesn't make sense to me at all. Plus, the undrafted guy that could be fielding punts/kr could be placed in the slot. Predator could play the slot too! I say no for wes....whose with me!?

1. I don't think we're seriously considering bringing in Welker at this point anyway.

2. Perhaps because not everybody believes we are "loaded" at WR. At best, I'd classify our WR core as "unproven" pretty much across the board. There's SSS, and then there's a bunch of guys who either have zero experience whatsoever, or have minimal experience as role players only.

I would say we have depth at WR, but nobody can say for certain whether its quality depth or not at this point.

We Have Camp, Deandre Carter, Steve Smith, I think we have enough guys who can play slot. With Marlon, Aiken, Perrimen, and Waller able to play on the outside, I think having Welker would be a waste of cap.

I agree that Wes Welker would be a bad signing.  But don't suggest we're loaded at WR with Steve Smith and a bunch of unproven talent.

The Ravens have 4 Tight ends at this point any two of which will end up taking over much of the work that a slot receiver would get anyhow. I expect to see a much improved short passing game bolstered by a strong run game both of which should open things up for Perriman. I cant help but feel that barring any injuries we are likely to see one of the strongest and most productive raven offenses ever. If the Ravens would have had a strong secondary last year the sky would have been the limit. Aside from using 8th string backups from other teams Practice squads for corners. If not for those corners the ravens may have gone all the way they had the patriots defense beaten twice and the defensive secondary allowed them back into the game twice. That will NOT happen this year. Flacco will look at this year as a contract year. Flacco's cap hit next year will be around 28 Million so they will be fporced to renegotiate his contract and another SB would make that contract a huge one again.

Field Yates (is his real name Field?) doesn't know squat about the Ravens. He didn't even get Camp's injury right. Its a tear in his QUAD, Field, not his hamstring. WE have enough talent on our roster right now, we don't need some has-been Patriot with concussion problems costing us more money while he sits on IR.

Oh Torrey u should have taken the hometown discount. Another Raven that cashed in and now will fall off and be miserable on a losing team. He's probably never gonna get all that money anyways. Wish he could have been apart of this next run.

Everyone must remember Field Yates is a Patriots shill. Every article that comes out from him has a Patriots slant and perspective. If he thinks it's a good idea then it is likely bad for us.

Sami it's not just the money, it is the roster slot we could use on a young guy we can develop. That is the real waste with Welker.

Exactly.

People often like to forget how precious active roster spots are during the season.
