[News] Eisenberg: Joe Flacco Entering 'Mini-Contract Year'

I'm sure they can work a restructure that's a win-win for Joe and the team. More guaranteed money in exchange for cap room, just like Brady did.

I think he will be a great bargaining chip for an extra 1st rd. draft pick here in the near future........

Super Bowl is coming folks and it's coming real fast. The team is to talented not to be. There is not threat that can we not beat honestly. We could beat any team in the league. Joe is getting a second ring I guarantee it.

If we can flatten out the yearly hit instead of backloading the deal it'd be nice. They basically agreed on a 3 year ~47mm contract cuz everyone in the room knew that barring any major disaster, 3 years were guaranteed. Hence Linta's smart insistence on guaranteed money against injury.

He's still got 11.8mm that needs to be spread out in an extension from the last signing (not optional) bonus. That means we could lop on a decent bonus to extend til 2020 or 2021, provide a respectable salary that'll keep him hovering around that 20mm annual figure, and flatten the deal out until he's 35-36 and re-assessing how long he wants to stay in the league cuz not all QBs necessarily want to play into their late 30s.

20mm flat a year against the cap would bring his annual chunk of the cap down to 13-14% from 20%. The saved 6 or 7% translates to 10.5mm per year with which to ensure Joe has a solid supporting cast for the rest of his career.

Fair, equitable, considerate deal all around.

I agree with your post. I also wanted to point out that joe just recently said in an interview that he plans to play until hes 40. Take that for what its worth. My input on this is that Joe got the contract that he wanted after the Super Bowl. I think Joe WILL give us a discount for this extension. I dont know Joe but I can sense hes at the age that he just wants to win and settle his family down in MD. Hes humble and he has more money to deal with. Hes defintaly getting more millions, so I think we'll all be just fine. Regardless if we win the Super Bowl or not.

give Joe a million dollars for every game he wins. 2 million for every post season game and 3 million for a Super Bowl win. Now THATS some incentive.

That's what they are paying him already. typical Ravens season record may be 11-5 = 11 million, 3 post season wins = 6 million and a Superbowl = 3 million all total 20 million.

If we can get pass the Broncos with a win I can see Joe and the Ravens start off 3-0 to start the season which I believe the next three games are Oakland on the road, and the Bengals on the road. We will be in good shape.

I know I've been hard on Joe " Iron Man " Flacco but I know he can do better and make history! Joe can have five rings like Kobe!

yeah, but Joe strikes me as one of those guys who knows what's best for his family isn't just about the money.

What's best might be not having to move with three little kids (and planning more!), staying close to home and the grandparents in NJ, and in a place that he loves with a job that he loves. Maybe you just couldn't pay him enough to move to, say... Oakland?

The only thing I could see that will pull him away is moving even closer to family and taking the job in Philly!

Under Chip Kelly?  Flacco isn't a Chip Kelly kind of QB...  Doesn't fit that "Oregon" style.

Our playoff appearances with Flacco at QB have been consistent. Pay Flacco whatever he wants. We cant go back to the Kyle Boller or Elvis Grbac days.
