[News] Will Running Backs Be More Involved In Passing Game?

25 posts in this topic

I'd like to see Kyle get his number called more often in certain situations. Vonta Leach made some critical first down catches in our SB 47 winning year. Super Bowl 50 will be even bigger. If nobody is covering Kyle, throw him the ball and let him put his head down for YAC. It has proven it's worth.

i hope we don't throw a ton to our RB's, because in most cases that will be check downs, i want to see the ball go downfield....

i actually am looking forward to more check downs this year when things arent open downfeild, simply bc i think our blocking will be alot better with the tight ends. this is one of buck allens strong suits. and forsett isnt too shabby himself. i love the fact that he feels like he has even MORE to prove this year than last year.

There we go trying to change the system... IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT

Try to expand your thought process as the Ravens expand their playbook. You'll be a lot happier. :D

Look at it this way, Joe came into the league with a great arm, has always had good chemistry with receivers going deep. Then Pitta came and started getting him comfortable with TEs. Then Kubiak came and really taught Joe how TEs can be used in misdirection and mismatch and moved around presnap to maximize the run game output. Now Trestman is coming in and layering on how to use RBs in the passing game for something other than flats and check downs.

It's the continuing education of Flacco.

And yet so many people see it as a handicap, that he has had to deal with so many changes.   I see it just like you put it.  An education with so many options out there...  It will just make us that much better in the end.

Not sure about you guys, but ive been inclined to back and watch the Bears from last year so we can tell "oh, that was a trestman scheme or play" vs "ok, that was a kubiak setup from last year." But it can be really painful to watch Jay Cutler play. There are way too many "WTH were you thinking" moments. Like watching a trainwreck sometimes.

I'm guessing Trestman will call more screen passes than Kubiak, and if our RBs can turn some checkdowns into big plays, it's going to help open things for the passes down the field.

Jay "Coach Killer" Cutler - took the title from Jeff George....

We really need a little change to not become cookie cutter every year. If Trestman can bring more slants to our offense I say go for it. Flacco and company can handle almost anything thrown their way. Flacco has the smarts. I think that is quite evident.

All this talk about the running game, I totally forgot about Juice. Wow. This offense is built for a big productive year. Young and fast with some veteran experience. If the O-line stays healthy, Joe WILL hit the 5k mark and a lot of TDs.

I want Kyle to get more involved in the offense, if he can correct his fumbling problems and use his big body to his advantage and not try to leap defenders, he will be the real weapon coach said he is.

I hope they will be more involved in the passing game and i believe they will be more involved in the passing game! Forte was very active in the bears passing game.... and we have the people who can fill the position. Forsett produced a little in the passing game last year. Juice showed that he can contribute in the passing game and I expect more out of him this year. Buck Allen also adds an interesting element out of the backfield. But to add some strong TE's into the mix... to occupy OLB and Safties.... it will open up our passing game in the flats a great deal (bc we know perriman will take the top off and SSS will hurt teams in the slot and across the middle)! I cant wait!

I can see Buck being a real weapon for us in the run and pass game, he's got good hands and runs very smooth, trying to tackle him is like trying to hold to catch a bock of Jell-O... just too slippery

Interestingly, both Kubiak and Trestman would have made #27 happy but that's in the past! What's looming is whether Justin Forsett will be a force in the passing game - last year he wasn't!

Flacco has so many targets that this offense will be really tough to stop. That's true also because we have a top 3 offensive line. On paper this is as good an offense as the Ravens have ever had. Trestman will be held to a high standard with all this talent. Having a diverse offense that can run and pass equally well will be hardest on defenses. IMO, having one RB catch 100 passes doesn't necessarily sound like a good thing.

An aside from a video here: Why would we want Wes Welker when:

1. we have Campanero

2. we have WRs who will be fighting for snaps already

3. what is he? 60?

It seems that Camp. CANNOT stay on the field. Now, does it haaaave to be a Wes? No. they just need that slot guy and I see a lot of outside receivers on this roster. I was hoping the Ravens young tight ends would step into that kind of role if Camp. can't get straight.

There we go trying to change the system... IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT

I don't think Trestman, or Harbaugh for that matter, is trying to change the system. They've constantly been stressing the fact that the system will Not be changing much at all. There are just some things that Trestman has had success in that he wants to add to our repertoire. I think that's a good thing. The more defenses have to think about, be prepared for, and try to defend, the better for us. And Joe just continues to learn more and develop his considerable talents even more. And remember this, although our offense did improve considerably last year, it was far from a perfectly oiled and running machine. Have you forgotten all the times the offense started games like it was sleep walking? And all the three and outs, with almost totally ineffective first halves? If you really look back at last season's offense, you should be able to see that there certainly is room for improvement. It might not have been "broken", but I surely wouldn't call it a finished project.
