[News] How Michael Campanaro Injury Affects WR Competition

57 posts in this topic

it would be nice to have the kind of receiving corps that helped Joe gain attention in the last Super Bowl run. Maybe we let them work more in preseason so we can start off with a win in Denver.

Campanaro so far injury prone, Robinson just injured. With Smith,Perriman, Brown, Aiken likely locks... Darren Waller 6'6 235lbr speed demon mismatch gets the first open slot for me. Twin Towers with Perriman. Then Butler and Carter can fight for the 7th spot. I know even as injury prone as he has been Ravens wont give up on Campanaro yet, so he gets the 6th wr spot.

campanaro is injury prone. next man up. i like carter

I would hate to be the one to choose between Carter, Waller and Butler. All have been exceptional so far. Real tough choices coming for the coaching staff.

Campanaro has impressed me Big time since the first time I saw him and I've been one of his biggest supporters. This kid is super quick, runs great routes, has velcro hands, consistently gains separation, moves the chains, can field punts especially well because of his glue-like hands, and seems to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. So, what's not to like? Well, obviously, it's the fact that he just can't seem to stay on the field. He, also, seems to be proving himself to be an injury waiting to happen. Man, I Really like this guy, but it's getting more and more difficult to lobby for keeping him with every day he spends on the sidelines. To me, the worst case scenario is for us to give up on him, cut him, and see him snatched up by some other team and watch while he somehow finds a way to shake this injury bug and put up a stellar career similar to a Wes Welker, who's game his so resembles. Maybe, just maybe, this is one of those rare cases where a stint on IR and a year with a different training regiment, focusing on his legs which seems to be his "achilles heel" would produce good results and get us a great slot receiver a year from now. And, who knows, maybe all this conjecture isn't even needed because he comes back from this latest set back, doesn't get hurt again, and plays like the extremely talented slot guy he seems to have the ability to be. With the competition we have this year, I think these are the only two scenarios he can hope for if he wants to be a Raven.

Camp can't afford anymore set-backs....He could hit the PS for a year i think, that would allow him to practice if he is 100% and will also allow us to see if he can go a full season practicing with the team...JMO....

My sleeper WR is....Cam Worthy

He must be everyone's sleeper!  I haven't seen his name mentioned in any of the OTA or the rookie camp reports.

I have a feeling it is going to come down to the last pre-season game for the last couple of WR's to see who makes it and who is let go. Definitly a hard choice to make for Harbs and his staff. I am sure things will start to shake out and some of these guys will start to seperate themselves from the rest.

It's not out of the realm of possibility that we'll keep 7 receivers because there is just so much talent. Smith Sr., Perriman, Brown, and Aiken are locks, most likely Waller will be kept around because of that height. So that leaves up to 2 spots available. If Camp gets injured again when he gets back then I just can't see him making it, I think he could stay on PS without getting picked up, if he stays healthy on the PS then he can give it another go next year. Butler has been seriously impressing and Carter has been getting lots of buzz, Worthy has the tools...it'll be a tough battle and the one that can establish themself on ST will probably get the last spot. I think Butler and Carter will snag the last two spots.

Sometime during Pre-season there is going to be a mystery injury on one of these bubble players that puts them on the IR. We all know it will happen.

No way in Gods green earth is Campanaro going to sit on our practice squad.  If we could convince him to go on PUP or IR we can protect him, but there is no way teams who need receivers are going to forget Camp going up and as Brandon Williams said "pulled a Randy" by going up and snatching the ball in the TB game.  He wont be on practice squad for one day.  My call is Smith, Aiken, Brown, Camp, Perriman and Waller with Carter as a Return Specialist and Butler, Worthy and the rest go to the practice squad or somehow get on the PUP or IR lists.

Waller makes the team, because there is no way he gets through the waiver wire, and put on the PS...He has to much upside, and 6'6 4.40 speed is rare...

Camp has a better chance if getting trough the waiver wire with his injury history, than a lot of the other talent we have, and being on the PS allows us to bring him up to the 53 man squad if needed...Not a lot of teams are going to run after camp with his injury history.....Bottom line Camp didn't put up monster numbers for teams to target him if he got waived...

feel like I've heard this narrative before.

As long as Smith, Marlon and Perriman are doing fine I'm happy I know they can play in the big moments (well Permian's a rookie but as a first round pick I have high expectations)

In order to go on the PUP list, a player has to miss the entire training camp and pre-season. If he practices with the team one time, he is not eligible. My guess is that Camp will start on the Pre-season PUP and if he doesn't improve or re-injures then he will go to the Regular Season PUP. More than likely, injuries are going to happen and will settle this (Robinson already injured and the pads haven't went on yet). But I agree that Camp is probably not going anywhere. Carter is an easy stash on the practice squad.

The bigger position battle to me is at TE. If Pitta is healthy, who do you cut (as the Ravens won't keep 4 TE on the roster)?

1) There is no TE battle...we'll carry 4, its not like that an unusual thing to do

2) As much talking up we've been doing regarding Carter it is far from an easy stash, especially if he backs it up in the pre-season

3) Camp already got injured as well, that goes some way towards settling it too

There's lots of ways on God's green Earth that he could make it through the season on the PS. We're talking about an undersized WR with god awful injury issues, and it doesn't help that we don't really need his return skills anymore.

1 good play by Camp against the Bucs doesn't justify keeping him, like i said his numbers weren't anything to write home about....He had a full off-season to get in shape, and he couldn't get past the first round of OTA's without hurting himself...If Carter can handle KR/PR duties then there is really no need to hold onto Camp...Carter also was praised for his route running....You keep the healthy guy, not the injury prone guy......

How do you leave Aiken off your list? He's made the most noise of all the WRs so far (not including SSS) and he played well when he was on the field last year.

I predict....SSS, Perriman, Marlon, Aiken, Waller, Butler, and Carter...With Worthy and Camp getting cut, with maybe one of those two hitting our PS....JMO...This is solely based with what i have seen and heard so far, all this can change when the pads get put on....

1. SSS 2. BPerriman 3. Marlon 4. Kamar 5. Waller 6. Campanaro 7. DCarter 8. Butler 9 ARobinson (I think that Butler, Carter and Camp all are on the bubble and need to earn that # 6 spot over the other guy) IDK how Robinsons injury will impact him but he was already behind most so, I think his injury is more damaging to him than Camps is. BUt there is a ton of football to be played between now and the end of August.... there is room to move and who knows maybe we keep 7 (not likely) or we get a youngster like Carter on the PS for a season????? Will be interesting as we move forward!

Such a good group of receivers on the roster, somehow the Ravens need to keep triple S' replacement around for when he retires next season.

Next year: Aiken, Brown, Butler, Camp, Carter, Perriman & Waller.

Hmmm, maybe we keep 7 wrs this year.

I forgot Cam Worthy but I really feel like Worthy will be further down the list and a likely PS candidate... again I hope he and others prove me wrong and excel... that means that we have a superstar we didn't know about but as of now... I am guess PS squad candidate!
