[News] Late For Work 6/4: Three Ravens Make All-Underrated Team

74 posts in this topic

I agree that it was probably the best offense from a production standpoint that this franchise has ever seen... BUT... Lets not pretend like this offense couldn't do significantly better, particularly from a consistency standpoint. Doesn't everyone remember the multiple games last season, most of which we still won, where our offense literally was sleepwalking for at least an entire half and possibly the entire game? How about the Tennessee game, at home, where we scored 7 points in the first half and basically only made it into Tennesee territory once? How about the ONE offensive TD we scored against Jacksonville, at home? How about the ZERO TDs scored until the 4th quarter of a must win home game against Cleveland to end the season? And nobody has forgotten about the offensive debacle that was the road game in Houston. Did our offense improve greatly last season? Absolutely, and from a macro standpoint, I like where we were and are at. But lets not pretend like this team still doesn't struggle with consistency on offense, because they certainly do. If there's one area that needs to improve, its that. We aren't likely to need to score 30 points every game to win, but it'd certainly be nice if we didn't need to score 2-3 TDs in the fourth quarter of games in order to pull out a victory against a team we should have blown out by halftime.

And don't forget the multitude of times we were 1st and goal and settled for a FG. That, to me, was the most frustrating.

Wait till the tackling starts, then we will see how close Will Hill and Matt Elam are. Will Hill was better last year than Elam and now he's "light years" ahead of THAT? Good luck Matt, youre gonna need it.

Canty should worry about getting healthy and getting on the field and producing more then about what changes the offense is going to make. If he does his job - the defense can make stops.... giving out offense more and more opportunities. I get what he is saying that we had some success last season but it wasn't perfect and we had a ton of inconsistency. Give Trestman a chance... Lets see what he can do... don't pigeon hole this guy into being a Kubiack clone! Harbs has a vision of what he wants (a balanced attack from a zone blocking scheme with a versatile passing game know for having a homerun potential). That has been the offenses MO since Harbs got here regardless of who the OC.... Lets give Trestman a chance within those guidelines to see if he can out produce Kubicak! With the talent we have and his resume.... I am excited... bc I think Trestman is going to do great things here!

If Brooks and Elam continue to progressively improve... (We know will hill can play) that is a good problem to have! Im pulling for him (both of them)!

Should the @Ravens check out Wes Welker? I think not, remember this? http://www.tmz.com/2013/01/21/wes-welker-wife-ray-lewis-murder-role-model/

I don't think we should neglect a free agent just because his wife said something rude about Ray Lewis years ago (for which she later apologized).

That said, I don't think Welker would be worth as much to Ozzie as some other teams will offer him - if he's still good enough to play at all. He'd definitely be good as a quality backup and is a proven returner - but he'll get better offers elswhere, even if his injury history is somewhat troubling (and might be the sole reason he's not yet back in Foxboro...)

i think we head into the season with what we got and save that money for emergency signings only....we signed a bunch of guys, drafted and had players on the roster....roll with what we have unless we bring in another pass rusher that was cut for very cheap....i don't see a signing at all

I really hate where we're at with the receivers because I just think they are all so good with much potential. I really want to keep all 9, but that's not even a pipe dream it's just ridiculous. Great problem to have! My BOLD prediction SSS, Perriman, Aiken, Butler, Waller, Carter. Also, it must have been so nice for Permian to have run a great go route and have a quarterback that could just drop the football perfectly in stride for him. Flacco to Perriman all day everyday. Go RAVENS!

Only signing i see is a value veteran returner. I think Carter should be able to handle it, but if a guy who already has experience is cut by his team, much like Jacoby i think we bring him in. I think we might, and that's a shaky might, sign a return specialist. Can't really trust Ajax, Webb nor Camp with injuries and I'm not sure you wanna risk Perriman back there. Sr has experience and i could see a scenario where he becomes that guy especially if the young WR set up enough to take offensive snaps from him, but not now it looks like we could us a specialist if a quality one becomes available.

Amen, jacket! Well said! You could have added in the way to frequent three and outs to all those pathetically slow starts. Halves with No offense can be Very hard to overcome. This offense is so far from where it needs to be in regards to consistency that the consistency we're talking about is almost out of sight.

@stixfix69 I hope Ozzie can find a way to extend at least one of them before the season starts either Yanda or K.O.

I almost burst into tears at the notion that Will Hill is competing with Elam for a starting job alongside Kendrick Lewis.

That is not a "tight" competition. Can't figure out for the life of my why that was included in the article. Hill is one of the best safeties in the NFL, that is something I would expect to read on Bleacher Report, not the team's official website.

The "LFW - Late for Work" article is composed of all that other media outlets are reporting.  It is not information compiled by this site.  It is all of the Ravens news and notes from outside of the organization and then combined in one place in order that you need not read multiple media outlets, and need only to read it in one place.  Someone else had reported that...  we just included it here so that other can see what is being reported outside of the organization.

LMBO...  When these people start to realize that these are not our stories.

They're not your stories, but they are your narratives. Many of the "complaints", which I don't necessarily agree with, are based on the narratives that BR.com provides in these articles.

I think people understand that quotations and direct references to what somebody said isn't original work by BR.com. The LFW articles aren't just solely material that BR.com pulls from other people. Its news from other sources, mixed with narratives written by this website.

If people don't agree with those narratives or opinions, its not fair to just say "well that's not us talking", because it is.

Nope, lots of people do not understand that.

Yes, I believe most of us understand that the LFW article is made of up articles that were found from other sites, but considering the one quote in that part of the article is from Arron Wilson I tend to believe that right now its a close battle.  Arron is hired by The Sun to be objective while guys like Ryan Mink are hired to hype up the team.  Sure Mink has to be truthful but I am going to believe an outside source like The Sun than a guy that gets paid by the Ravens.

Sami makes a great point.  Elam struggled a lot with his tackling technique.  If he hasn't fixed that Hill will be the starter and the Ravens will probably have to draft another safety next season.

It was over for Elam as soon as we signed Lewis, matt can't Tackle or cover, the two starting safeties (Lewis and Hill) can do those things.

Keep mind that phrases like "upgrade" and "well rounded player" were used very often on these boards in regards to a 2013 FA safety acquisition by the name of Michael Huff.

Honestly, their pedigrees are not much different at this point.

I think it'd be wise for Ravens fans to pump the brakes on annointing Lewis as a quality starting safety until we actually start at least playing games.
