[News] Late For Work 6/4: Three Ravens Make All-Underrated Team

I think the ravens should check out Wes Welker and James Jones. They're both still better than our 3rd/4th options and if we could get one of them for the right price I think it would pay off.

If the Ravens were to have a bad offensive season, who are we going to blame Kubiak or Trestman? Kubiak is gone and it's now Trestman's offensive. Trestman is a professional and was hired to lead the offensive. I wish him the best with any and all directions in which he may lead the offense.

I think we already got enough players at WR position, Wes Welker man???, his wife claimed Ray lewis was a murderer, i don't want that guy near my ravens.

Good point, I totally forgot about that. I take back my previous comment, lol.

Daryl Smith has really been a tremendous unsung hero for us. Couldn't be any bigger shoes to fill than those of Ray Lewis and Daryl just stepped in, day in and day out doing his job providing continuity to the defense. Glad to see Daryl Smith getting some much deserved acknowledgment and praise.

Extend Flacco, and get Yanda and KO resigned....unlikely, but that would be sweet....

I forgot about that, but she took her comments back and apologized for it right afterwards. It's not really that serious.Wes Welker will be the one in a ravens jersey, not his wife.We have alot of bodies on our WR depth chart but do you actually believe any of them would add more to our team than one of those vets would?Either Campanero or Brown will probably be the 4th WR on our depth chart and Jones and Welker are definitely better options than both of them.

I agree that it was probably the best offense from a production standpoint that this franchise has ever seen... BUT...

Lets not pretend like this offense couldn't do significantly better, particularly from a consistency standpoint. Doesn't everyone remember the multiple games last season, most of which we still won, where our offense literally was sleepwalking for at least an entire half and possibly the entire game? How about the Tennessee game, at home, where we scored 7 points in the first half and basically only made it into Tennesee territory once? How about the ONE offensive TD we scored against Jacksonville, at home? How about the ZERO TDs scored until the 4th quarter of a must win home game against Cleveland to end the season? And nobody has forgotten about the offensive debacle that was the road game in Houston.

Did our offense improve greatly last season? Absolutely, and from a macro standpoint, I like where we were and are at. But lets not pretend like this team still doesn't struggle with consistency on offense, because they certainly do. If there's one area that needs to improve, its that. We aren't likely to need to score 30 points every game to win, but it'd certainly be nice if we didn't need to score 2-3 TDs in the fourth quarter of games in order to pull out a victory against a team we should have blown out by halftime.

I don't know why I got so many down votes. If we brought in Welker or Jones and Camp or Brown failed to beat them out for a spot over the summer then so be it.I like both of them but in the end we gotta root for the jersey and not the name on the back.

3. Things from this article.

1. So Steve Smith with Cam Newton doesn't make the top 100 is viewed as old, slow and shipped out of town. Steve Smith SR. with Flacco is the 54th ranked player but Flacco is only good enough for 97 while Cam is like 77? What a joke, i promised i would watch that stupid list this year and I'm glad I'm sticking to it. But it does make me wonder, if losing Steve Smith and watching him put up greater number with Flacco helped Cam Newton, i wonder how much better Matt Ryan would be if ATL shipped Juilo Jones to play with Flacco. That would probably drop Joe off the list and push Ryan up to the 30s with another 7-9 record and missing the playoffs.

2. I'm so stick of these last of the Mohegan defensive players trying to hang on to the Baltimore Ravens football is defensive driven. Newsflash the offense has been carrying this team for some time now. I'm so sick of the keep the offense balanced so we can get some rest talk, how well did that rest help when the D blew two 14 point leads? How much did that rest help when the Pats started using school yard trickery to beat us. How about the defense force more turnovers to give the offense better scoring chances? How about not giving up late 4th quarter leads in both Bengals games? Canty needs to be worrying about how he can have a better season and not get pushed off the roster by these young hungry pups we got coming up, instead of what Trestman is doing with the offense. This Defense is big brother mentality has to end. If Trestman wants to tweak the offense a bit to make us more aggressive so we can start to put our foot on teams throats so be it.

3. So glad to hear that Brooks is ahead of schedule. I'm a huge TB fan but i hope he doesn't push himself too hard. He's a very smart guy so i trust his judgement, but with the addition of Lewis and Hill having a full off-season, i don't think we need him right now. I'd rather he make sure he's 100% definitely before coming back to avoid minor setbacks each year. I know it's a huge season for him but the quickest way to derail that is nagging injuries that forces you to miss a couple days here and there. That's more frustrating to a coach then a guy who misses a stretch of time. But I'm so gald to see he's making a speedy recovery and if he is ready to contribute, i think he fits in well as that 3rd Safety.

I almost burst into tears at the notion that Will Hill is competing with Elam for a starting job alongside Kendrick Lewis.

That is not a "tight" competition. Can't figure out for the life of my why that was included in the article. Hill is one of the best safeties in the NFL, that is something I would expect to read on Bleacher Report, not the team's official website.

I have zero doubt that Elam and Hill are competing for that spot. It might be tight because its early, but Hill doesn't exactly blow the doors off the safety job last season either. He was good, but certainly not somebody I consider throwing a ton of long-term money at, which is mostly reflected by the Ravens decision to tender him at a very low level AND the fact that I haven't heard a peep indicating they are in long-term discussions with him.

If Elam beat out Hill for the starting job, it wouldn't surprise me in the slighest. I don't expect it to happen, but it still wouldn't surprise me.

It's more of a risk reward factor. First off if you bring those guys in right now you gotta cut someone. With such a young team, nearly everyone has an opportunity to showcase something that catches coaches eyes. Secondly what you saw with your own eyes means a lot from a coach and talent evaluator standpoint. The coaches saw the work that guys like Brown, Aiken and Butler put in last year. They see the improvements they've made thus far. It's hard to make a call on a guy outside the organization if you don't think without a doubt he'd be better then what you have and/or add to your offense. Now if the current WRs don't impress, then you start looking. But for right now i don't think Ozzie or Harbs would see a need to shake things up any. But remember Lee Evans wasn't traded for until mid way through the preseason when Torrey just wasn't looking good.

I don't think it's really a "competition" between Elam and Hill, Hill will be the starter but both will definitely get playing time, maybe some 3 safety sets?

As far as the Welker tweet at the end...not gonna happen, we already have a tough group of receivers and Welker isn't needed right now. He should retire.

Trestman....he still has to develop the game plan and call the plays that best match up vs the opposing defense.

I thought Eliot Harrison was demoted from his job at NFL.com and a janitor at the NFL offices got his job right after he declared Alex Smith as a better QB than Joe Flacco. Yet, we continue to quote the guy. Come on BR.com, don't dignify these bloggers with more attention please...

I would like to see Oz bring in a vet ILBer, we don't have much behind Smith, and CJ.....And if Arthur Brown is struggling at ILBer move him outside and see if his speed and quickness fits better as a pass rusher, and who can cover the screens....JMO...

There's also the possibility that, at least in my eyes, Kendrick Lewis isn't some stud FS who is guaranteed to keep that spot. He could be a great player, or he could be the 2015 version of Michael Huff, in which case we may, again, be forced into essentially starting two SS at the safety positions.

Agreed that we rotate secondary players out a lot anyway, so there will probably still be snaps for a guy like Jeromy Miles potentially also, but I'm just a little perplexed as to why this website and others have already annointed Lewis the starting FS as if he were like a 2008 version of Ed Reed or something.

In my eyes, the entire safety core, regardless of SS/FS, should be in a completely open competition for extended playing time. There isn't a single safety on this roster that I see that is head and shoulders above everybody else.

If Will Hill and Matt Elam are in tight competition at safety we are in trouble at safety.

Give the young man a chance at redemption Bruce! We did it with Jimmy so why not Elam? I am optimistic about all our draft picks, Arthur Brown included!

I think Elam will have a strong camp, his first 2 two years he really wasn't threatened of losing his job, this year we brought in Lewis, Perry, and Brooks is on the mend to compete, he knows his job is on the line.....
