[News] 6/3 News & Notes: Wide Receivers Shine

63 posts in this topic

Aiken is going to be a household name. Do you know why? Because he'll be a fantasy football star! If you are good at racking up fantasy points in this day and age, you go to the probowl. Not otherwise regardless of how great you are. Case in point - Joe Flacco.

agree 100%

Sad that being on a balanced team (run/pass) causes players to go un-recognized

The best news: Not a report on drops from Perriman.

I think his drops in college were overblown.  It was stated many times they were concentration drops and not fundamental drops.

Sad that I'm not just rooting for Perriman to succeed to silence rival fans and see the team shine but also to hush certain ravens fans that are convinced that he's a bust before his career even started.

With all the different types of receivers we have I hope Tresman has plenty of different packages to implement players strengths which will make us a very dominant offense.

Never understood why "fans" don't support rookies before they even play their 1st game.

Give him a chance to succeed/fail before you label him as a bust. You would think, we would

root for all of our players to succeed. the players succeed, the team succeeds!

Exactly, we talk about our defense giving different looks, why not our offense follow suit?

Oh they were. That's why I think not having reports on his "drops" is important, especially if it translates to pads. That means a huge talent fell to us at 26...again ;)

The best news: Not a report on drops from Perriman.

I was never concerned about that in the first place. He didn't drop anything in his last 4 games in college, he didn't drop anything at the combine, and he didn't drop anything at pro day. I think the only reason anyone made a big deal about his drops was because pundits needed something to talk about. I'm more interested to see if he can run a full route tree and get consistent separation against NFL DBs. According to reports, so far, so good.

what happened to Brown? I hope he is not the second Pierce who had been given many opportunities to grab #1 job but faded from the golden chances. I hope Brown settle down and play his strength like his athleticism, ball skills, and body frame. Also, he has 2 years of experiences...looking forward to see you step up!...

If the guys need a place to hang on the "Left Coast", there's a huge contingency of Ravens fans out here more than willing to accommodate. How many rooms you need? Let's talk!!!

Its' a shame Aldrick Robinson got injured. Its' a blessing that the injury is a sprain  He is a player many of us don't count in the final cuts of the reciever group.

Article been waiting for. The first team offense should look good since our 2 starting corners didn't even practice but I'm glad to hear about the guys catching everything even our safeties picked a couple off. But sounds like Schaub is having a rough time adjusting. Don't like hearing that he is lacking some zip on the ball. That just kinda shows that his arm strength is def on the decline. All our receivers are 4.4 speed or faster so have to have that arm strength to be able to keep up with them.

Looks as if Aiken took over Marlon Brown's #2 spot so far but I wouldn't be surprised if receivers went up and down a lot more during this process. I'm sure all will see more time on the field. Flacco is going to be known for getting multiple passes completed to several different receivers each game and look like Tom Brady next season but with a stronger arm.

This is good news, since not long ago some ESPN and nfl.com windbags were saying that WR could be a position of weakness for us. Of course, things could change when the pads go on and the hitting starts, but I think we'll be ok- especially with a much-improved tight end group.

Or...if I may, keep my cup half full and state that if Marlon doesn't earn significant playing time, it is because there are better receivers. It's a win-win. No?

I look for six receivers and Carter listed as a return guy to make the team. Therefore we are looking at Smith, Aiken, Brown, Campanaro, Perriman and Waller. If Aldrick Robinson and Jeremy Butler make it, it will be on the practice squad. With our tight ends, our wide receivers and with Mark Trestman, if Flacco doesn't hit 4000 yards passing, then I don't think he ever will. He has the best targets he has ever had and a system that is Kubiaks in a zone rushing scheme, but Trestman still calls the plays and Trestman likes to throw the ball.

soooo... 7 receivers. such a pointless distinction to make, and "return guy" isnt a position anyway. if he's on the roster, he will be listed as a WR. they'll add /RS IF he ends up returning anything.

Smith, Perriman, Aiken, Brown, Butler and Waller. These six are on the team. Campanaro has to stay healthy and win the returner job or he goes to the practice squad. Same with Carter. If Pitta isn't healthy they may keep 7 WRs like they did in 2013. If he is healthy they keep 6 WRs and 4 TEs. Boyle would never clear waivers but Campanaro and Carter probably would. Plus they can't take a chance on losing Boyle in case Pitta gets re-injured.

Flacco will be spreading the ball around. Every one of our receivers is starting caliber and I bet that they use a rotation to keep everyone fresh. The idea of a #1 and #2 just won't apply this year.

This will be a tough offense to stop.

Totally disagree with your belief that Campanaro would clear waivers to make the PS. I just can't see that happening. UNLESS, he comes back from his quad tear and suffers yet another injury. But, if he doesn't do that, if he, instead, comes back and continues to show the ability he Has shown when he Has been able to be on the field, well then all bets are off to me. We either keep him then, or he plays for someone else. He's just too good and too talented when he Is on the field.

I'm not worried in the least of the Ravens wide receivers. Barring Joe from getting hit by a meteor, the 1st big questions this year will be "Can the secondary get good enough to stop good QB like Rivers and Manning? 2. Can Ravens stop the run? 3. Will there be a pass rush? Joe is going to light it up, no question.

Since the draft, I've only heard people talking about how we have more talented receivers than we have roster spots. I think all the weapons we got in the draft silenced the requests for another vet

the majority of them dispersed after the draft but there are still quite a few fans that think we should. me not being one of them.

Yeah, I don't know why people think Camp needs to win the returner job to make the team. He showed that he has every asset needed to excel in the slot last year. He can get separation and make tough catches in traffic. A quick slot receiver would complement our big, fast receivers on the outside perfectly. I think injuries are the only thing that can prevent him from making the team.

And who's going to be the return specialist?

That's been my number one question besides the WR competition.

Steve Smith called Carter a little Randall Cobb, that alone tremendously helps his chances of staying.
