[News] How Different Is Ravens Offense?

31 posts in this topic

Sounds like a pretty smooth transition so far. No major upheavals to the schemes, conditions seem ripe to progress and tweak the finer points. SSS will be invaluable to help this young group of receivers not only get up to speed in this particular offense but we also need SSS to help the newbies quickly sharpen their WR skill sets in general. If these things are already happening, couldn't ask for a better start with this talented group of players.

It really should NOT be that different! I know its another OC and I know that there are a lot of reasons to believe that this will look different but we have the same OL, the same QB, the same RB. TE will be improved, and WR looks virtually the same (even if the personal is different). I just see more depth this year, which should mean more consistency and more youth (which may mean more mistakes) But there is also another season of cohesion for many of the players which should mean more production! I like where the offense is, talent wise -I think it will be similar in production as last year (and that was just about good enough to get us to the super bowl!)

I liked the offensive scheme we had last year but I didn't especially like the play calling. Hopefully this year we will have basically the same offensive scheme but more aggressive, imaginative play calling.

I think this year the offense will hit the field running even with the coordinator change because of what they are doing now. Flacco said it himself that they are already running things not seen usually until training camp. They need to be ready....the first game up is against Kubiak (thanks again NFL schedulers for doing your part to throw the Ravens under the bus BTW!) You can bet he will point out every offensive players tendency and any weaknesses to their DC. GO RAVENS!

I really think we are going to be SO Tough this year as long as our O-line is Healthy we can see a great year from our Ravens!

I'm not worried about the offense. They will do the normal slow start but the defense and now all the questions about a returner is the weak links. Especially now that Ravens got ride of Jones. Go ahead put Webb back there and one punt and he'll be done.

Raven offense is going to rock this year. I don't expect Manning-esque numbers, that's not the Raven way, but we'll definitely be on par with last year's team stats. Can hardly wait to see them in action.

I know we're all excited and worried about how our offense will do. To me it's fairly simple. Keep Joe upright and we'll do fine.

I think with the veteran leadership on both sides of the ball and this coaching staff the Ravens will have a very exciting year. I think Joe has a lot of weapons around him and I also think compared to the past years these guys the WR's / TE's seem to want it more maybe it's just me but right now the TE position is wide open and the only WR that we know is going to be playing the majority of the down is SSS the #2 WR all the way down to the return guy is wide open. What do I mean by wide open? Guys are penciled in at their position but anything is possible in the next few months. Plus they are all very young.

1-healthy Joe

2-KEEP Marc Trestman if he works out

3-healthy o-line

4-good relationship between Joe and receivers

= Successful offense for not just this season, but for years.

right now i'm not really worried about the offense. if we are able to be anywhere near as good as last year we will be fine. the only fear i have is us losing our identity of being physical and getting a bit to pass happy.

I remember reading somewhere that Trestman (along with our Harbs) was a few of the most aggressive coaches in the league so hoping we get just what you're asking for

Joe Flacco can work with any new OC but I don't know if any new OC can work with Joe Flacco. Respect for each other is priority number 1 and the rest will follow

Forsett had 235 carries last year.. in 2013 Matt Forte had 289 and then 266 in 2014.

Even factoring in the fact that it is Matt Forte, you can see he likes to run the ball a lot.

We will go vertical and down field to our tight ends more... Williams is a seam buster and Crockett seems like a viable option that can fool some defenses. He embarrassed Worilds on his touchdown against the Steelers in the playoffs.

Talk about mismatches... a 6'6 260 and 6'4 250 tight ends and throw in Nick Boyle at 6'4 268

Our rookies look NFL ready, Crockett needed to put on some muscle mass and I'm sure he did that over the past year.

Look for more screen passes, something the Ravens only do for running backs, which will also increase.

These plays are a big part of game planning and burning the defense when you know/think they are blitzing... Perriman and Steve Smith can do well in those situations, so can Campanaro and Aiken with their qualities as tough runners.

Joe continues to improve, but our offensive ceiling really hangs on how our top two picks do. If we got the next Dez and Gronk then things could be nasty this year. If we got the next Clayton and Dickson, then our other guys (Brown, Aiken, Gilmore, Campanero) are going to have to step up.

if the offensive line plays like they did last season and flacco stays healthy than i do not see why this offense cannot exceed last seasons success. perriman and williams need to be the real deal. flacco cannot lose the deep threat connection he had with torrey so hopefully perriman can be that guy because it opened up the running game.

To me the rookies are a big factor on where we go on offense from where we left off. That and Pittas health.

Perriman needs quite some fine tuning. The kid ran a faster and more explosive 40 than Torrey and has a more substantial frame, but it's clear he needs help polishing out the false steps on his release on those 9 routes which helped slower corners stay in his pocket when he could clearly burn right past them. On his cuts he needs more discipline staying flat and oftentimes coming back to the ball to create space between himself and defenders for YAC instead of drifting away from the ball. He himself admitted that alot of his issues were with lack of concentration.

Williams on the otherhand is just a beast. He's already a wily route runner and mismatch and really good in blocking which is a rare package to see in someone that hasn't been coached at the pro level. If we get Pitta back it frees up a world of possibility in 2 TE sets. And if we find creative ways to get Pitta, Maxx, Juszczyk and Gilmore in on the plan, you can imagine why it's not only a TE friendly offense, but why it consistently churns out 1000 yard rushers.

This is the meat of the question in the transition from Kubiak to Trestman, the continued imaginitive way of involving TEs. Can Trestman still use TE screens and block and release patterns in stretch plays to force defenses to respect our TEs and keep LBs and safeties near the LOS and away from the deep ball and undercutting comebacks. And can he use our size and depth at the TE position to contribute substantively in the run game?

DON'T tinker with the run blocking scheme!

I've seen Forte run for years //yawn// and I saw what, arguably, an average RB like Forsett was able to do behind our "Kubiak S-T-R-E-T-C-H",... :sherlock:

Don't mess with success!   :oldwiseman:

or maybe the "schedule makers" actually threw kubiak under the bus. If we give Denver a good spanking week one kubiak is going to wonder what he got himself into and wish he never left. I think right now one of our biggest ?s is the running game. Whether Forsetts great season was just an abberation, talioferro still being unproven along with the new addition of buck, and whether trestman will actually stick with the running game and not switch things up. However I think although this is one of our biggest unknown areas- I think this could turn out to be are biggest surprise areas and being the most successful. If Our o-line can have similar success as last year, Forsett will continue to flourish - we have more receivers getting open downfield keeping defenses honest. Even better blocking from our tight ends Crockett and Boyle. Buck Allen is similar to Forsett the way he sees a lane, cuts and just goes after it. I think he will do just fine. He also will have a lot of success catching the ball in the back feild. The biggest unknown is talioferro, and again, I think he could be our biggest suprise. He has came back to camp in tip top shape with a whole new attitude. I think he wil no question be a solid #2 , and may even end up givin Forsett a run for his money. He is very young and could possibly be our star starting running back of the future. I was never a big fan of his last year- but from what I've seen so far I think he may be the comeback player of the year. It's early I know - just a prediction I'm throwing out there. Anyway- with trestmans new offense utilizing the screen game and letting joe sling the ball down feild, I think this also equals big things for our running game. If trestman sticks to our run first mentality and things go well- we are going to be hard to stop, and last years record numbers will be a thing if the past. The blueprints are there - now it's all about execution and staying healthy. Edited by January J

Here is one of my thoughts on a key move for the Ravens this year. Matt Schaub as the #2 QB. Now its not what most would think in having a back-up QB, the reason is not because he may need to step in for Joe ( while all of Ravens nation does not want to see that). My reasoning is because having a very seasoned, near starter ability, back up he will work with the #2 team...this team will need to develop quickley. The young 2nd team has abilties that I think everyone feels are above average and we expect that most of them will see important game time minutes. Not only on the offense but on the defense as well. Having to go with the talent, knowledge and experience of Matt during rigorous practice and training may be the best thing that could happen to these young players. Developing young talent in the NFL is highly under advertised... this will be an unseen factor in the Ravens race to the top this year. Welcome Matt, I am looking forward to you as an unsung hero of "playing like a Raven!"

I am happy to say; now some of you may need to sit down,... Ready(?)...... happy to say that I am very pleased with Joe's maturity and how he handles a game nowadays!

Shocked & stunned ??? Yeah, I said it! :D

Now, going forward, Joe has shown that he will still take the deep shot and like last year's Divisional Playoff, he has shown he's got more room to grow and needs more maturity and patience rather than betting the whole season on one throw!

All that said, I'm eagerly anticipating how he will handle the weapons and, especially, how Marlon Brown will grow with Joe! :oldwiseman:

Nah forget that, That's what makes Joe who he is. Remember he audibled to a throw in 3rd and 1 in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. Flacco has the stones to do it, I say let him.
