Just don't free lance. Stick with the scheme and do your job. It's not all about making the play. It's about teamwork.

If I recall correctly, Jernigan was working w/ Darnell Dockett over the winter.  Dockett said something along the lines, "Ravens fans thank me later for the shape that Jernigan is going to be in when the season starts".  Great to read that he's dedicated his off-season to become the best player he can be.

Has he shown that he will not do what he's told?  This team wouldn't put so much on him if that were the case.  Ed Reed is the only guy that could get away with that.  He's a Hall of Famer,

Jernigan needed to focus on his footwork. It should improve his reactions as a run stopper. Brandon Williams reminds me of the great DT Sam Adams. ROHIMO. So the Ravens have options. This is one reason I really like the potential of this defense.

You sir are correct he also almost threw up too. I can't wait to see him this year because he played so well last year too.

Much rather have a 295 in shape guy rushing the passer than a 345lb out of shape mount Cody rushing the passer. This and Brandon Williams to be straight monsters. They are just too quick and have great strength. The strength that Williams possesses is just unreal. Hope for a healthy summer of training and some big things this upcoming season for this defensive front.

In the BCS National Championship Game he ended up having to leave in the 4th quarter due to exhaustion, but before that he put in 3 full quarters of impressive dominance. Here's hoping that conditioning pays off so he can dominate for all 60 minutes.

You don't want to lose a Player of Ngata's abilities and demeanor, yet this will be an interesting development.

Love Jernigan's game and with Williams and a decent D-Line ? With a rejuvenated Secondary ?These guys could have a really big Defensive Season.

I agree with Jet4life,... as soon as Timmy Jernigan in played his first pre-season game, I said, "Uh-oh,... they are going to have to find creative ways to get him on the field!"

That dilemma seems to have taken care of itself and Timmy needs to stay healthy and perform!

Just goes to show people just how good our front office is at drafting and signing players for the future. Knowing that Ngata was going to be very expensive and maybe his best has been played, Ozzie & Company went out and got Jernigan, Wiliams, etc. Always thinking ahead and not afraid to let big named stars go has done us well so far. It works.

Go Ravens!

As long as Timmy plays up to his full potential I expect him to get the highest sacks for a D tackle this year. I truly believe he'll do it and get to the pro bowl. That is just the kind of impact player he can be.

Timmy has a very high ceiling. He will do it differently then Ngata did but we can use someone to push the center of the pocket better then Ngata did. Timmy brings that. WHen he penetrates and collapses a pocket...the opposing QB cannot step up and avoid Dumervill and Suggs... THat means more sacks as a team. I am excited to see what Timmy and C.Davis can do in that capacity! I like the different element...plus we have Brandon Williams that is more suited to filling Ngatas role (as a gap plugging),run Stopping, block eating, immovable object in the middle of our defense!

With his position he shouldn't be worried about how many sacks he gets, his job is to stop the run and free up linebackers, which is why Ray Lewis lasted so long in the NFL because of guys like Sirgusa, Kelly Gregg, Sam Adams and Ngata, these guys were big and strong, Ngata was a freak of nature being he was big, strong and athletic. Hopefully Jernigan understands that, especially dropping weight the way he did. He's a 5 technique defensive end so his only job is to control gaps to keep offensive lineman from getting to the second level. So with him losing weight I hope he's gotten stronger and a lot more physical because if not he's going to have a long season ahead of him especially in the tough and rugged AFC North and make it hard from the linebacking core.

"Despite taking just 330 snaps, Jernigan ranked as the league%u2019s 14th-best defensive end in a 3-4 system, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). He ranked sixth in run-stop percentage and second, only behind Houston%u2019s J.J. Watt, in pass-rush productivity."

just want this point to hit home for the negative people. Ngata was a mountain in the middle for a long time. However, he was aging and Jerrigan and Williams came in and proved that the DL will be fine without Ngata's presence. He will be missed, but the production won't fall off by much if any

It's your turn Jernigan. You get to write your own story it is all up to you. Now go out and prove any and all nay-sayers wrong and play like a Raven.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but you are attempting to compare players that don't exactly match up...  Siragusa and Adams were both pure run-stuffing DTs with the girth to be a solid NT in a 3-4 as well, but they were with us during a time when we used a lot more 4-3 fronts and the league was more run oriented. Which meant those 2 played side by side LDT & RDT to clog the middle and free up Ray Lewis as you stated.  When we drafted he Ngata he slid into a similar role early on but Ngata had rare athleticism to go with his enormous size, which led to the team moving him across the line. Kelly Gregg was a run-stuffing big-bodied guy similar to Adams and Goose but much more active in terms of tackles.

Jernigan is a more of a penetrating DT, that can play the 5 technique, but would probably be best playing inside abusing guards.. A ravens comparison for Jernigan would be more in line with Trevor Pryce, Rob Burnett, or Cory Redding, guys that were versatile enough to play outside, be strong against the run, but also rush the passer from the outside as well as sliding inside in Nickel situations...    If Jernigan can give us anything similar to those three then the team will be in great shape.

Drafting him could easily go down as one of the biggest steals in draft history. he was a projected top 3 talent at his position and he fell to the 2nd Rd. What a gem he will turn to be. He has no ceiling! Cant wait.

The difference is Cory Redding and Trevor Price were taller and bigger guys and Rob Burnett was really just a situational player for the ravens because of his size, he was tall but didn't have the weight on him, Which is why all 5 technique defensive ends need to be and are usually around or over 300 lbs. Brandon Williams is a prime example. He's not that tall but he has his weight to throw around. Suggs and Dumervil's job is to go after the QB. Jernigan is a good player but I need to see more from him because the 4 games with Ngata were against Miami, Jacksonville, Houston and Cleveland. Miami is the only team not under .500, That's hardly what he'll be facing this year. We play the NFC West this year and the Steelers and Bengals twice. Can he hold up to the pounding he'll take this year?
