[News] 5 Players Who Need Big Showings This Summer

35 posts in this topic

I think for the most part, players who don't get much playing time, and not in the rotation we use on both sides of the ball are playing for a job, every rookie class is a threat to players who are borderline....Will be tough decisions on the coaches....

Timmy please listen to your line coach and no more free lancing please. Gap discipline and management is key to stopping the run. Now! I feel better already.

Matt Elam: More probable than not he will not start, however he will still have opportunities to show his worth.  I think he can do it though because he seems more focused and serious this year.

Arthur Brown: Has a huge opportunity with to prove he has gained knowledge and skill the time he has been in baltimore. He must show that he can continue to develop and ultimately take over when Daryl Smith retires. I think he will by more time and be around next year(special teams at the very least).

Michael Campanaro: Sorry Camp theres to many receivers in the pot but that doesn't mean he wont be on the team.  He will be the return man on one special teams side and may even take both duties if Carter doesn't take one.

Courtney Upshaw: Man I love this guy, unselfish team player and the heart of a raven all around. His role will increase, however I think it might not by that much because this is his contract year. Both he and Za'Darius should see action because not only do they both have talent but because they want to resign Courtney for cheap. While it may not or may not happen it is something to think about.

Timmy Jernigan: Big Timmy Jernigan will be just fine in fact he wont have to do it alone because we will have a sweet DLine rotation to keep him fresh. He will do tons of damage. When a Dtackle can run down RG3 you know you have an athletic specimen.

Timmy Jernigan should not be on this list. He is pretty much a lock to be a starter, and he already played well without Ngata last year. Yeah, he has to play with a little more discipline against the run, but he doesn't "need" a big showing in OTAs.

Upshaw shouldn't be on that list as well, he played his role as a run stopping OLBer, and pulled on passing downs for Doom to step in...

Jernigan? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. An interior lineman who can put the pressure on the QB. They don't grow on trees and his position is seemingly secure.

I would not hold my breath on any of these guys. Only Campanaro has a slim chance but hamstrings never seem to go away.

While would agree that Campanaro, Elam and ABrown all need to have big showings.... I think that Courtney and Timmy not so much. Both Coutney and Timmy are locks to not only make the team but log a ton of reps. Both will play key roles for us and while it would be nice to see them show that they have continued their progression.... we have already seen enough of them to make us comfortable in placing them in those roles. Elam, Camp and ABrown have an outside chance of not making the team (while that is unlikely for all three) we clearly have little faith in them and as a result have been looking for someone to step in... in their stead! BC of that... those three need to step up... to show us that we can count on them. The other two that I would add would be Asa Jackson.... he is in the same boat as Elam, ABrown, Camp bc we don't trust him just yet. the other one I would add to the group would be Pitta (just bc we would love to see where he is at).

And Campanaro has already gone down with an injury.

Campanaro has never been able to stay healthy and what makes people think that will all of a sudden change this year. I think Deandre Carter takes over his position. He has talent but that means nothing if your not on the field.

Hopefully it is just a mild strain. In which case he would be back in a couple weeks. But if it were to be a complete tear of the quad, he would be looking at a four month recovery. In which case he would already miss the whole preseason and may be even regular season games.

Upshaw and Jerrigan will be fine, not sure why you have them on the list given the other 3 names? Camps already gone down with a injury, hopefully its minor but if not hes done. Carter will likely get those return duties now.

ABrown I just dont understand. DSmith has lost a step and cant cover anymore. We saw that the end of last year. If Brown cant beat him out this year than hes labeled bust and I dont even see the point of him making the 53. Trade him for we you can get for him.

Elam. Hes a backup now and nothing more for this year. Hopefully he can show enough that he can be serviceable. But hes ant

another bust.

Source for report on Campanero previously mentioned:  http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/27/report-michael-campanaro-sustains-quad-injury/

(Although I prefer to hear and validate things like this from our own people, just saying.)

Michael Campanaro suffered quadriceps injury during practice, severity being determined, sources say: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-ravens-wide-receiver-michael-campanaro-injures-quadriceps-at-practice-severity-unclear-sources-say-20150527-story.html

Camp is obviously injury prone(and they didn't mention his fumbles)....just glad we found out now......Plenty of other talent on the squad!

Even if we do drop Camp now that he is hurt, It's not because he is a bad player. He showed a lil of what he can do when healthy and has convinced some of us that he is at the very least worth a roster spot on the Ravens. If any other team were to pick him up he will be good depth for their wr corp.

As for Upshaw, I dont get why there is any kind of negative remarks towards him. The Ravens have told Upshaw what his responsibilitys are for this defense which is stop the run and has lived up to everything the Ravens have asked for him to do. Imo Upshaw needs to be resigned because he is too damn important for the Ravens defense. We are in the tough Afc north, where teams like to ground and pound. Unfortunately we have 1 of the best backs(Leveon Bell)in the nfl right in our division for years to come and also some up and coming Rbs (Jeremy Hill). I believe the browns picked up a decent looking rb in the draft. We are gonna need Upshaw to stop the run and given the opportunity to rush the qb im sure we will see that sack number go up. With the talent we have along the line we wont need Upshaw in the double digit sack total. I think we look for that pure pass rusher in next years draft unless we already have him in our 4th round rookie Zsmith.

Until they know the full extent of Camps injury it would be hard to speculate, but this will no doubt give more reps to the guys pushing for a roster spot....

I just hope they keep both Campanaro and DeAndre Carter in either the 53 man roster or one of them to the practice squad because Steve Smith isn't going to be here very long and we need both of those Wr's for the future they both got talent don't cut any of those talents receivers we have just put them on practice squad if they don't make the 53 man roster.

Upshaw spied Ben just waiting then nailed him to the turf, he got a penalty for the best play of his career (bah humbug). I'm looking forward to him nailing more QBs and RBs to the turf.
