[News] Late For Work 5/27: Battle Wages At No. 2 RB, Michael Campanaro Eyes Bigger Role

44 posts in this topic

It will be a tough camp, for Carter and Camp with so much talent at the WR position with guys who are 6-2....It appears at least on paper we are going bigger at that position, or at least trying to....Let the best 6 or 7 WR win their jobs, i would hate to be the one making cuts...

Wondering where ABROWN is in his development???? I know that he is log jammed behind CJ and DSmith but he could add some solid reps on ST and giving DSmith a break from time to time.... DSmith isn't getting any younger... would love to see ABrown step up and set a solid future in the middle beside CJ!

Campanaro's contribution on ST is going to determine how much he plays IMO.

I think you are 100% right on that. With all the talent at WR now, it is going to be tough. Not to mention that some of his competition are very tall, very big guys. Waller @ 6-6 240 is one guy I hope to see this season. Imagine just how high he can get up to snag the ball from the air. Tough choices ahead for the coaching staff.

I remember Ellerbe making comments about not wanting to stay in Baltimore. He referenced the pressure on being the guy to take Rays spot and he didn't want that. He moved on to Miami chasing the money saying how great it was to go to Miami and not have to deal with the stuff in Baltimore. Remember, Ellerbe was a Harbaugh doghouse guy after his preseason interception return for a TD and showboating and taunting a Rams player. Harbaugh grabbed his facemask and chewed him out when he hit the sideline. After that, until his last year, he was just a practice squad guy due to his problems with Harbaugh. Now we hear Miami sucked and he is happy to go to a new team. Ellerbe is living off of playing beside Lewis when he was here causing teams to focus less on him and more on the best player on the field. Now he is the man in the middle, he cant be productive and I think we will hear about Ellerbe one more time when he gets cut from this team and then I am sure they will suck too. Too many Ravens players leave and are really nobodies and that shows when they leave the Ravens scheme.

Nobody is happy leaving the Ravens other than making a quick buck! That tells potential free agents this: Sometimes, it may be useful to give up a few dollars to buy eternal happiness!

I'm not a believer in the Harbaugh doghouse theory.  Especially over some showboating after a TD during a preseason game.  I find it hard to believe that Harbaugh is going to bench a talented player who's gonna help his team more on the field than on the bench b/c he's in his "doghouse".

Maybe there could be an upside for Camp having so many tall receiver teammates who will likely be matched up with the opposition's taller or primo CB's. Camp has an incredible vertical for his size and I envision him out leaping anybody even near his height. Remember the tremendous height he had over multiple defenders on that TD last season? Plus he seems like a pit bull once he gets his hands on the ball and will fight like crazy to make the completion. I don't want to underestimate how this mix at WR position could play out in a positive way for Camp if the opposition underestimates or overlooks him.

I would love Marlon and Perriman to line up on the outside and SSS to rip open the middle in the slot. Brown just needs the playing time. He has a lot of talent once he gets going.

Luckily I think the Ravens are deep at almost every position, and a lot more than they were last year. The only position I would be worried about with injuries this next season is safety, if Will Hill or Kendrick Lewis go down for too long who will replace them? Also the only other position I can think of an injury making the team fall hard would be running back. If Forsett went down there is no real veteran there to help move along the young guys and these young guys will have to learn to live in the AFC North. Of course if Flacco went down it would probably end the season unless it was late in the season I could see Schuab producing some alright drives. He is probably the best back up in the league... But at that point you would need players to step up big time to even win a play off game.

I'm pretty sure Doom will join that special club because we will have a a lot of hungry fresh guys rotating on the d-line giving both he and Sizzle some big sack opportunities.

I think Ozzie picks up another vet safety after camp cuts.

I think we are pretty set at Safety with Levine moving back, Brooks will start on Pup, and Elam and Perry as backups...If anything we resign Miles, since he is familiar with our system...JMO....

Possibly, though it certainly wouldn't be with the idea of starting.

Ultimately, I think Ozzie would decide that a Miles or a Levine would be better at safety than any vet released from camp.

Keep in mind that camp cuts are almost always an indictment of an injury or poor performance, as there's really no benefit to making those cuts for salary cap purposes, so the likelihood of getting even a quality reserve player is very small.

didnt miami have more wins than new orleans last year anyway? ellerbe might end up wishing he would have stayed- i dont see the saints doing much this year- esp after the loss of jimmy. however anything is possible in the good ol nfc south. i also think the whole afc east made signifigant strides this offseason- which is good to finally get some competetition for new england and knock them down a few notches.

I agree I bet that is the first area they look at. I also wouldn't be surprised if they signed a running back to their practice squad for insurance.

Levine is okay but still not great. Elam has played pretty terrible his entire career. Perry is an undrafted rookie and it doesn't even sound like hes turning any heads at training camps. Brooks won't play until late in the season if at all. Levine would be the only option at safety if one were to go down in my opinion and I don't even necessarily see him as starter material yet. He was good in the slot covering the #3 receiver last season but other than that it sounds like in the safety position we are putting a lot on these young guys' plates. Would be nice to find a solid addition like we got Ihedigbo to play behind Pollard and Reed a couple years ago.

I see the Saints doing better this coming season. With Drew Brees anything is possible and the Saints super bowl win a couple years back was when the Saints ran the ball. Brees is like Brady, he makes the solid at best receivers around him play well. He dishes the ball in several directions. Now the Saints have arguably one of the best running back tandems in the NFL if Spiller can stay healthy. That defense is just off and on year after year but I would have more faith in the Saints with their competition than I would the Dolphins with the Patriots always playing well and the Jets and Bills seemed to have added more additions so far this offseason than the Dolphins have.

I am rooting for The "CAP" big time. He is the AFC NORTH's Version of Wes Welker And i really do believe GILMORE will have a coming out baller party this season. Mark My Words. He is Gronk size

Miami is building a nice team down there. They made some big free agency moves.  They're going to be a tough out this year.

Watch out for Will Hill on the defensive side of the ball and Kamar Aiken on the offensive side of the ball to explode this year and make a huge name for themselves!

The no. 2 RB needs to block as well as Forsett. I don't know how many times I saw Pierce whiff on a blitzing LB. Run all you want, but when it comes to crucial passing downs the Ravens need a #2 RB that can run, catch, and block. Hopefully, Forsett can school LT and Buck and both will be equally effective on all downs.

Will Hill is going be something special at Ss but I don't like his number that much 33 wish at least change it to 35 or something like that I think the number on 20's are gone.
