Grading the Ravens

82 posts in this topic

" When I first got here we analyzed every football player we had, we graded every football player, we looked at every game that they played for the last 2 years, we graded everything that they did,....analyzed offense and defense........we did everything to bolster our defense....everyone we selected has the ability, but pride and performance makes the difference..." Vince Lombardi

We have so much analysis these days from various sources, and with the top 100 player choices coming out, I thought in this thread we rank our Ravens top 90. Hard to put unprovens in top 10, you guys can do tpp 5 top 90, whatever you want, my top 10 would look like this:

1) Flacco

2) Moseby

3) Tucker

4) Suggs

5) Yanda

6) J.Smith

7) Williams

8) Upshaw

9) Monroe

10) Smith Sr.

Flacco isn't the best player on this team and neither is Mosley. Would probably go to Yanda, Tucker, Suggs or Hill,if going strictly oFF performance.

If I had to make a list probably

Yanda

Suggs

Tucker

KO

Jimmy Smith

Will Hill

Flacco

B Will

Doom

Should long snappers get a place on the list? Wanted to put Wagner but only 1 year.

If the question is, 'In the jobs they're required to do', you'd be correct. Yanda is a better OG than Flacco is a QB, comparatively, if you are grading them on those terms.

My interpretation is a combination of difficulty of position and performance. Or, maybe, 'hardest to replace' is how some could view it. Multiple views, I guess.

Best individual player or best in relation to their position ?

I take position into consideration in terms of relative importance on the field. Tucker is probably better at kicking than Flacco is at QBing, but QB is far far more difficult and important.

Shouldn't importance of position and difficulty of position play into it? I love Tucker, but claiming he is the best player on the team is a bit strong for me. If I would have to start a team and had to chose from the Ravens roster, I definetly wouldn't pick the Kicker.

Agreed. I also believe, that Yanda is currently the best player for his position on the team, but if you had to start the team from scratch and had the option to just keep one player, it wouldn't be Yanda.

Flacco and Suggs would be top tier. Jimmy and Mosley probably second tier.

I could understand his list then. I tried go by just best player. I might say he's not the best, but he is the most important, as far as team success at this point.

I think a lot of you are extremely undervaluing Daryl Smith.

I like Daryl a lot, stuck up for him when the complaints flowed early this year. Hard to fit him in over others, I'm somewhat forecasting as well.

He had a couple poor games early, but ended up outplaying Mosley by the end of the season.

That's a big drop from where you had Monroe last year (I think number 2). Shows you how fluid a list like this is. Props for going full 20, and I like your list a lot. I'll have to think on this for a little bit to make one of my own.

2. Flacco

3. Jimmy

4. Suggs

5. KO

6. Mosley

7. Webb

8. Tucker

9. Jernigan

10. Upshaw

True, played amazingly in the playoffs but Mosley was also nursing a wrist. Not that being injured grants him absolution.

Definitely true. Monroe struggled a lot last year, part of that was probably health related, but he needs to return to his previous form to climb higher on this list. I think he can be up in the top 10. Part of the ranking is also due to emergence of some young talent.

Forecasting. Expect good things from Hill but what's a better ranking? Hard for me to swing top 10.

Mosley was really good too, but Smith was outstanding, especially in coverage where Mosley struggled.

I think one thing I loved about Daryl this year is he played the run far better this year. He just seemed slow to come down hill and took bad angles a lot last year, but this year was absolutely on point in terms of run defense this year

That was my thinking and I asked after reading your grades for simply that reason
