Who doesn't make the team this year?

83 posts in this topic

I just don't see him making a splash..its been 3 years and it would be a miracle if he's around looking at the depth of our d line.

things like this just don't pan out. its sad as he had potential but he's not played football in 3 years and had two of the worst injuries you can have. harbs always is a positive guy..but the reality is.and he knows it..its unlikely KLM barring a sensational preseason will be around much longer

It's been 2 years.

KLM's retiring, We've seen this hundreds of times decent players get drafted but turn out to be injury prone and end up retiring. He hasn't played in three years and has torn his ACL like 3 times. He's done. People need to stop thinking he's the next best thing.

Someone better tell Harbs not to waste too much time evaluating KLM since he's "retiring"  /sarcasm.

“It’s really important that Brent Urban and Kapron Lewis-Moore come on,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said Thursday. “Brent looks like he’s 100 percent. Kap looks like he’s really close to 100 percent. I think those guys will be full-go in the OTAs.”

Torrey Smith, Haloti Ngata, Pernell McPhee...

In all seriousness, I would say Jah Reid, DeAngelo Tyson, Albert McClellan, Asa Jackson, and Brynden Trawick are the "major" names squarely on the bubble.

I'm going Jah Bum, Trawick, Butler, Tyson. I think we keep Asa just because of what happened last year with CB's...never know what happens though till after TC and post season.

We will probably keep Elam, though I don't think we should. Never would have kept Trawick on the team after he rammed Jacoby Jones. I think he will be gone, unless Elam is cut.

I believe either Aiken or Marlon Brown will be gone. We need to make room for guys that can be explosive.  One will likely stay to provide some mentoring to our draftees.  I think Aldrick Robinson and Jeremy Butler will depart, but that's not really a surprise.  I also believe if Deandre Carter is as explosive as touted, Campanaro could find himself on the bubble. I also Believe Denis Pitta has played his last NFL game.  They may keep him on I/R this year, but to my eye his departure is about when, not if.

I tend to think Jah Reid retains his position as a Tackle/Guard Backup.  He's got 5 years in the system and that gives him a leg up.  That's assuming the crop of Unsigned Rookie Free Agents doesn't include a gem.  We have one guy from Ohio State, another from Brigham Young. We've got James Hurst, who really showed some potential, but we'll need to retain Reid unless one of the Rookies is outstanding.

I believe Asa is safe and sound. If he stays healthy this year it could be his chance to elevate his play. Don't have much faith in Melvin and corner was a huge weakness last year.

Touissant and Jacobs  They just gave Reid a contract in March.  I can't figure out why he is present

Who said he's the "next best thing"?!??!?

I only mentioned him as a competitor for a roster spot - if he's healthy (which I clearly stated).

Maybe you can answer this questuon: If he goes through waivers and gets claimed, would the Ravens be off the hook for his base salary ?

No, if he's claimed on waivers the team that claims him gets the remainder of his contract, so the guaranteed base salary transfers to that team.

That said, given his poor play - and what would have to be even more poor play to get released - I doubt anyone would claim him.  A team that was interested would likely pass on taking on the contract and instead take their chances at signing him to the 3rd year minimum of $585K.

It's sad when a 1st round pick likely wouldn't even get claimed off of waivers with a base salary just over $1M.

8 teams put in claims for DJ Swearinger who hasn't been much better. I think someone would definitely take a chance on him. I find it highly unlikely he is let go, but I could envision a scenario where it happens.

Yes and we were one of those teams.  Oz wanted DJ Swearinger, though I disagree with the assessment that Elam and Swearinger are in the same category. And this is after obtaining the safety from the Texans, Will Hill's lofty evaluation and the glowing reports of Elam's diminished body fat.

Swearinger refused to play special teams. Anyway, it's moot, we lost the attempted claim.

I think Swearinger would have been competition for Elam had he been awarded to the Ravens. The FO has made it clear he needs to get better, and I don't see him having a very long leash. My point was there are plenty of teams out there who would take a chance on a first round pick from 2 years ago if he was available.

How much is he getting paid? I know it's first round to third round difference. Is that a half a million? That might be a reason why a team may pass on Elam but try DJ. I don't think you're necessarily wrong, only playing devil's advocate here.

Funny how everyone says Elam, who started most games the past 2 years, but not Art Brown who hasn't even been active.

I'm not one who said Elam, but I do agree regarding Brown.  He's a name I should have mentioned.  I do think we'll give him 1 more year to see if he can show anything, but he's probably on the bubble as well

Swearinger was a mid second rounder. It probably would have been a similar contract to Elam's.

With all this "Elam sucks, crucify him talk," don't be surprised if Elam improves. You really don't know how good you really are until you completely failed. It's about picking yourself up and moving forward. Hopefully, all this lights a fire under a player who I thought was pretty talented coming out of college. If Elam can put some time in the film room and fix up his techniques a little bit, he could make a huge leap as a player.

Oh yeah you're right. I'm not sure why but I thought he was a third round pick for a minute there..

If I had to say this early I have to go with Jah Reid although I think Elam could be gone too if he does not fix his tackling but he is going to be given every chance possible.

To be clear, I don't think Elam is going anywhere either, but the main difference between the 2 (if Elam were to get released) is that none of Swearinger's remaining contract is guaranteed.  So, any team that was awarded him on waivers can also cut him at any time with no Cap consequences.  It's basically a free look.

Elam, OTOH, has the $1M guaranteed salary, so that is why I think it might be different for Elam if it ended up going that way.

What Ravens player who was on the roster last year, gets cut this year?

flacco, that guy is not elite, we want elite QB, this guy only wins SBs and playoff games and stuff,we want an "elite " qb that doesn't win games that matter. like ryan, lol

I think the most obvious one is Jah Reid.

I'll throw is more surprising one in - DeAngelo Tyson.

He started strong last year, but fading into oblivion and the end of the bench by the end of last season.

If - and this is the real qualifier - if Urban and KLM can prove healthy, and with 2 draft picks added in, I think Tyson could be vulnerable, especially if he doesn't show better than he was apparently showing at the end of 2014.

I think the opposite.   Think Tyson will be the next Mcphee/Ellerbe/Arthur type of player for us.   He is going to cement of solid resume after this year and raise his stock for a payday.   Another comp pick carryover for us imo.   And One of the guys you mentioned KLM or Urban will fall off and be released.

Jah Reid & Touissant will probably fall off the roster.   Makes no sense to keep Reid and really....i am so surprised how a guy with such little talent lasted this LONG...

That makes sense, but I think a lot of teams would be willing to take that small gamble given the potential upside of a first round pick.
