2 kickers argument

40 posts in this topic

A 2 PT conversion should be WAY more difficult than a PAT. The premium on that additional point should be rich ... so that it is only there when you are desperate. I do not want to see rules put in place that motivate teams to routinely go for 2 because it has been made too easy.

Gotta say I agree. The Philadelphia option (move the spot to the 1 yd line) is going the wrong way. If, as some think, the owners will move the PAT back even farther next season, then they should also move the 2-pt conversion spot to the 3 yard line, not the 1.

I'm sorry, what? Two kickers because his leg will get tired? That's adorable. These men are athletes. They kick a ball for a living. If they get tired, well, they better not.

I don't think the extra point rule change is going affect kickers endurance, the old PAT's already have the power to go from another 15 yds, just a matter of having to concentrate a little more on the accuracy now. Kickers get more down time and rest during a game than any starter by a large margin. It's not like they are sprinting down field on kickoffs either, their role is more of a safety net behind the kick coverage. Guys like Tucker can still boot in the new PAT's on muscle memory alone, I think you will see virtually no difference besides a few mental lapses on accuracy from a couple kickers throughout the year.

Overall it might actual benefit kickers on normal FG attempts because they will get more of a tune up under game conditions kicking from a little further back.

So the thought is a 33 yard kick is more physically taxing than a 20 yarder?  idk.......

I do like the idea of a someone other than the guy kicking FGs doing KOs.  We did that for a while with Stover.

I think you make an interesting point. I think the amount of effort each kicker put into a PAT would easily be enough to send it an extra 13 yards... at least that is my thought.

This is a non-issue.  Kickers don't have enough repetions in a game to wear themselves out.  They'd have the same amount of kicks regardless and the 1pt kicks are often drilled with authority anyways.  Remember:  These are professional athletes and not some former-soccer player-turned-couch potato.

Secondly, if they needed to rest poor ol' Tucker's leg Sam Koch is an all-around athlete and can kick those pesky "extra effert" field goals.  Manton was brought in for next season when Tucker's extension from his tender expires and if he holds out for too much money.

I think there will be no change in kickers or the way they are used due to the rule change unless after this coming season it proves an obvious need. I see no changes this coming season.

Do you ever go the games? Do you see how many kicks Tucker makes before the game starts? More than a couple from 65 yards. More kicks would be more mental pressure in a game than a physical one.
