[News] Justin Tucker Reacts To Extra Point Rule Change

I'd be ok with it also if I was him... Just made him that much more valuable. Really hope he decides to take a fair deal versus the better offers in (hopefully) less competitive teams.

Welp, you hear that? It's the sound of re-signing Tucker becoming just as important as Yanda all the sudden.

I'm sorry but this is just plain stupid. All this really means to me is another gimic for a generation that cant appreciate something for how great it already is and constantly needs to be entertained. Whats next once they take away kick offs? No running plays? Fireworks after a first down ?

Going from the 2 to the 15 is a big jump, Tuck can handle it no problem, but i do see more 2 point conversions tried in bad weather....

I think moving it from the 2 to the 15 is too far maybe the 10. But my biggest complaint is that if you return a PAT, into the opposite endzone, it's only 2 points instead of 6, if you take the ball and put it into the other teams endzone that should be an automatic TD, why just 2 points that is so stupid to me, I thought the nfl like high scoring games?

We're fine people we have one of the best kickers in the game. The teams that need to worry is the teams with grocery store workers for kickers.

What was great about extra points being automatic? NOBODY missed those kicks, like ever. 2-point conversions are still up at the 2 yard line. I don't see how anyone who doesn't like being bored would oppose this. They could have just taken away extra points altogether. This makes having a good kicker that much more important. It makes the game more challenging. It's a good thing.

Why can't they just be satisfied with how the game already is, just ruining the game little by little, first a CB has to practically play with his hands tied together, now they want to extend kicks and take away a well deserved td away and make it 2 points, SMH.

It's going to stink that the mind set is looking at 8 points as a score versus 7.....Teams will get 6'9 WR specialist for 2 point conversions....:)

I am 100% on board with this rule change. It makes the extra point more interesting, without taking away anything from the game. I think that this rule makes every point scored more valuable, and it increases the role of the kicker in the NFL. Unfortunately, this will now raise the price of resigning Tucker. I definitely think we will still extend him at some point, but now his agent has more weight to bargain with. I think that is why Ozzie was frustrated about the slow progress of extending some of our guys, because he knew that this rule was going to be passed. Overall, this rule makes having an elite kicker an even bigger advantage. Tucker NEVER misses kicks under 40 yards.

I don't think this is a punishment to kickers at all. I think this rule just made the kicking position more valuable. Does it make it harder for them? Obviously. But it gives them an opportunity to have a bigger role and make more money. Stop looking at all of the negatives about this rule. This rule takes nothing away from the game, and only give something to it. I have always wanted the ability of the defense to take back an extra point for two points if it is blocked or fumbled.

The NFL had so many other problems to fix. Leave well enough Alone. Glad JTuck is our guy, shouldn't be a problem for him.

No I think this is a good thing. Making it more attractive to try 2 point conversions is a good and interesting thing.

The value of quality kickers just went up. Teams are going to want a kicker who can make around 90% of PATs. Which is great because be have one!

Aaron Schatz of Football Outsiders writes, "The 2-point conversion is converted roughly half the time, so the numbers suggest that the smart head coaches will begin to go for 2 after nearly every touchdown except in certain late-game situations, an XP try being worth roughly 0.91 points and a 2-point try being worth roughly 0.99 points." It will be interesting to see if Tuck gets less work this season; after all, Ozzie anticipated this change when he drafted all the 6'4"~6'6" pass catchers.

All the more reason to get his deal done.

I suspect that is precisely the reason why he and his agent aren't signing on the dotted line just yet. It sucks for us, but they're banking on it.

Just think of all those games we sent you out for field goals because we couldn't get it done in the red zone. It'll kinda be like that but with 4 more points.

Am I the only kicker reading this....someone explain to me how you move a ball from the 2yrd line (19yrd field goal) to the 15yrd line (32yrd field goal) and come up with the math that it went from a 18yrd PATs to a 33yrd PATs. 7yrds is the magical number here.... let's get our math right or just ask any kicker what the actual new distance will be.... Whomever wrote the article, your welcome. You won't ever forget that kickers kick from 7 yards back on PATs and field goals, not 6.

This rule change can only help the Ravens.

But here is a question....We line up at the 2 yard line supposedly going to run the ball but then, after a failed run and lateral backwards, use the "drop kick" to make the 1 pt. extra point. Is that legal?

Here are 3 reasons why this rule change is a horrible idea:

1. It's only a matter of time before a historic, memorable TD drive, such as the Mile HIgh Miracle, is rendered meaningless by a missed PAT.

2. Many close game will now be decided by "shootout" type plays, where the ball is automatically spotted somewhere with one shot to score. That takes away from the natural spirit of the game and makes it too gimmicky.

3. This one's not as important as the other 2, but we will never see another fake extra point, 2 point attempt, like we did against the Steelers in 2011.

My only concern is I just heard on CSN couple hours ago Bellicheat and Kelly are the two HC's who came up with this idea. Now those are the only two coaches in the NFL that will call anything and everything at any time. So this tells me that because 2 PT Conversions are such a failure from the 2 yard line statistically, given more field to work with you would expect more success. I expect these 2 HC's atleast in this one year trial period, to pull a lot of fake FG 2 PT conversion attempts from the 15 with players like Gronk at NE disposal, and how Kelly utilizes weapons there is no doubt in my mind this is just another TRICK so those turds gain competative advantage.

It gets shutdown after this year, or Make sure to boycott
