[News] Late For Work 5/19: Maxx Williams On Sport Science, Ray Lewis' New Book

Do you really think Pitta can Block/Jump/Catch.......With his reconstructed hip?.....Get Real people!.....I love the guy personally but not wasting a roster spot.....smh

If he didn't have a 50/50 shot, or better, of coming back than he would have been cut by now.  There is no reason to keep a player around if you know he won't be able to play.

My Main Man RAY LEWIS Salute. I sure hope he drops some important jewels in this book cuz personally I still think he's too young to tell his life story. The journey is still in motion. I want to read about his life from 40-77 years old. I know its going to be good regardless. I'm looking forward to part 2 life after football.

Joe Flacco is 20th best QB!?!?!?! WHO ARE THE OTHER 14 better QB's?

Aaron Rodgers

Tom Brady

Peyton Manning

Drew Brees

Big Ben

You can argue Flacco's position among them and Flacco has beaten them all except maybe Rodgers, but if they have Luck, Romo, Wilson, Tanehill, A. Smith, Rivers, Kap, Newton, DALTON or anyone else over Flacco, I'm going to scream man. None of them have a SB ring or SB MVP or MORE WINS IN THE POST SEASON THAN FLACCO. Stop HATING on our QB. It's RIDICULOUS!

uhh, yeah. that's the point in reconstructing it.

do you really think breaking a bone renders someone (a professional athlete, no less) permanently disabled? you're the only one i see out of touch with reality, human bodies do this thing called healing.

If he didn't have a 50/50 shot, or better, of coming back than he would have been cut by now.  There is no reason to keep a player around if you know he won't be able to play.

he wouldnt be cut, because that's very expensive for us at this point. he'd be on IR.

Look, Pitta re-injured his hip on a no contact play by planting his foot - do you honestly believe that he's capable of recovering twice. This is the same injury the ended Bo Jacksons career. Pitta needs to just call it quits and be thankful he can still walk. That said, I would love for him to be able to but I'm being realistic here.

1) Bo Jackson planned on retiring before he got hurt. The injury just sped up the timeline.

2) Bo Jackson retired 25 years ago...a lot has happened in sports medicine since then.

Ditto... A 100% Maxx Williams, Crockett Gillmore, or Nick Boye is better than a 70% Dennis Pitta with a high risk of injury. When you have the depth that you do you do not take chances. His NFL career is on the line, forcing him back will only force his career shorter.

how could you possibly know this?

Pitta and Gilmore are the only names in this comment with a single NFL snap attached to it, and Gillmore's resume as a pass catcher isnt that impressive.

Since you seem to be so sure, you should call Pitta's doctors and let them know.

Pitta does not have what Bo Jackson had. After Jackson dislocated his hip, the blood supply got disrupted, and the ball of his hip literally died, and he needed a hip replacement. Pitta's hip has fully recovered. It may be more vulnerable now than it was before, but it is far from the same as Bo Jackson's situation.

If you were being realistic, you would listen to what his doctor's are saying instead of making up your own diagnosis.

Writing an obit for Dennis Pitta is a bit too early at this point. He knows what he wants, we want him if he can get there, and he has a great past for us when healthy. Give it time everyone, and let's see what he can do to be in the lineup. Our depth and talent there may make it more difficult, but he is still Dennis Pitta until further notice.

Fans should know by now that Flacco or any Raven for that fact will never be taken seriously as top 10 material. Even in fantasy the Ravens get the shaft. Guess we will just have to win another SB. Go Ravens.

well, as far as fantasy goes, that's warranted. Historically, Ravens players are always far more valuable on an actual field than they are in fantasy scoring due to our general lack of offense up until the Kubiak, and then the balance of the attack there after.

Forsett seems to remain a victim of his size and career arc as people still dont quite trust him as a legit back. he's a little underrated here, because he was money for me weekly last season, but other than that its hard to beef with the evaluation of those guys' fantasy value. If you arent at least playing in a PPR and/or IDP league, most ravens players are useless.

That is his fantasy ranking so it doesn't really mean anything.  I wanted to find his ranking from last season because I am pretty sure he finished somewhere around 17th, but all I could find is other predictions for this year and predictions from last year.  I saw one site that listed a lot of other predictions and he was ranked as high as 13th and but as low as 27th, so 20th seems to be where most people have him.  Personally I see him finishing somewhere around 15th, but I could be wrong.

Of course these guys are going to rank ahead of Flacco. Running qbs like Keap, Wilson and Newton will always get rated pretty high.    Luck, Dalton, Romo and Rivers all play in a pass heavy offense, so they will get a lot of TDs and yds that Flacco won't while playing on a balanced offense.  Fantasy wise Tannehill is basically on the same level as Flacco and Smith is 27th on the site that I was looking at.

The further you move back the extra point line the less value you give to scoring a TD. Think of a QB, down by 7 points with a minute to go, takes his team down the field for a TD before time runs out. Then his team loses because the extra point is missed.

I just wonder why the pundits, singularly miss out on the RAVENS and the respect that is obviously due them? I guess that is because we're a smaller market team, but if we get another S.B. Victory, it would help, some, but I still guess we'd get shunned all over again. Well, it'll be our little secret, as to how we've succeeded over the past 2 decades!

It doesn't in any way devalue the TD, because in your scenario, you literally can't win the game without it.

It makes the PAT more difficult, and brings in the statistical analysis and thought process of teams going for 2 more often.

I think most people everywhere know Flacco is a top 10 QB overall. Fantasy rankings are skewed so you take them with a grain of salt. Like other people said, running QBs are going to get ranked higher because that's more points they can get, and our offense is balanced so Joe isn't going to throw for 5,000 yards. But as an overall ranking, Joe's top ten, no doubt. I have him at 8.

Really?......I don't think this decision requires a Brain Surgeon.......Common Sense hopefully will prevail.....

If Pitta feels he can still play and compete I'm all for him coming back. By no means do I want him to ruin his life though. At the end of the day he's has to come together with his family and make the best decision whether it be retiring, sitting out a weeks or a year(which he could do because we have amazing depth at the TE position plus he could still be a leader for the bench), or deciding to strap up game one.

I wish you the best Dennis!

His doctors say he is fully healed, and that there is no way to give a percentage on the chances of him being able to get through a season. I guess they are unaware that it's simply "common sense", even though they are highly trained medical professionals that have been working with Pitta's specific situation very closely. You should clue them in.

Common sense tells me that none of us understand Pitta's situation nearly as well as his doctors.
