[News] Late For Work 5/19: Maxx Williams On Sport Science, Ray Lewis' New Book

49 posts in this topic

Pitta will start off on the PUP list, leaving Williams an open shot to start this season. If he can produce as much as Owen Daniels did last season that would be phenominal. He has the skill set, I just hope he has the mental toughness on game day. And no surprises the Ravens are not a fantasy team.. Just like how the Patriots outside of Tom Brady is worth drafting in fantasy. The Ravens are one of the most well rounded and complete teams that they don't rely on a couple players to carry their team. Only surprise there is Justin Forsett ranked so low when he was 5th in rushing last season. Outside of him I honestly probably would ever consider drafting the Ravens defense or Maxx Williams because tight ends in the end don't put up too many points outside of Gronk and Graham. This stat is more of a compliment to the Ravens for having contributors on every level of their team.

That Sports Science drill clip of Maxx Williams is an amazing peek in to the excitement Maxx can potentially deliver on the field. A dynamic playmaker for sure....and he is ours! Can't wait to see Maxx in action this year.

We could use Pitta's experience in the beginning of the season, seeing how brutal our schedule is....Would diffidently take pressure off of Maxx...

The Max Williams thing is definitely entertaining, for now. Leaping like that won't "fly" in the NFL. Hope he's got that out of his system, we don't need another injured TE on the sidelines.

The ravens players are never good for fantasy football. They put their team first " I got your back you got my back" as Ray said. It's always been since 2000 and coach Harbaugh has made this a formula for winning.

I am sure that Maxx hurdles other players at his discretion. :)

If Pitta is cleared by medical, he will have to compete for a starting job (That's the Ravens way).  I wish Pitta a full-recovery and both him and Maxx luck.

I still hate the idea of a season being cut short because a kicker misses an extra point earlier in the game. And then later having a field goal not be enough to send the game into overtime or to win the game. The entire thing is stupid IMHO.

In my mind the biggest improvement the team is prepared to make this year is red zone offense. With Taliaferro healthy, the depth at tight end, and Perriman, who it seems has the ability to make the body control contested catches that Torrey had trouble with, I think the Ravens could have one of the best red zone offenses in the league. If Pitta comes back that'd be a huge bonus, but just the size and versatility and depth of having Gilmore, Williams, and Boyle in goalline I think is going to help Joe out a ton

I am not what to think with our TE situation.... I would be shocked if we keep four TEs but then again how do we not? Pitta, Maxx, Boyle, Gilmore!

For all of those saying Joe Flacco is overpaid please look at Jay Cutler, Tony Romo... and now Ryan Tanehill. Look I don't want to hear that mess ever again. Heck even Sam 'China' Bradford falls into the category that proves you guys were tragically born without a clue!

They won't rush Pitta that would be unwise. They can have him wait with the depth at tight end. No need to rush him. I want him at 100% so it doesn't happen again.

Pitta has been rehabbing (to include workouts at the Under Armour Performance Center)  from injury for some time now, and September is still a few months out. I want a healthy Pitta too, but I wouldn't count him out come September,

They said he just started running not too long ago. They never said he was at 100% running speed. Also take into consideration that football is a contact sport. Running by itself is not violent but adding in players running even faster at you and hitting you it is very easy to reinjure yourself. He rehabbed last season and look how that turned out. I bet the Ravens put him on the PUP the first half of the season, let him continue his rehab and have him probably do a couple weeks of contact practice at a moderate pace before he comes back.

Ditto... A 100% Maxx Williams, Crockett Gillmore, or Nick Boye is better than a 70% Dennis Pitta with a high risk of injury. When you have the depth that you do you do not take chances. His NFL career is on the line, forcing him back will only force his career shorter.

I am being "real" with my thoughts and opinions that Pitta will be able to "Block/Jump/Catch" with his "reconstructed hip." :)

I saw that weird segment of guessing the age of players per "how-old.net". Most of these young folks were portrayed as decades older than they are. What? I just kept wondering how tragically old the website would tell me I am. By comparison, this website would probably tell me I am a corpse.

Look, Pitta re-injured his hip on a no contact play by planting his foot - do you honestly believe that he's capable of recovering twice. This is the same injury the ended Bo Jacksons career. Pitta needs to just call it quits and be thankful he can still walk.

That said, I would love for him to be able to but I'm being realistic here.

What scares me about Dennis is that after the doctors gave him the ok, and he was, supposedly, all healed, look at how he got re-injured. He was just planting his foot to make a cut, wasn't even touched, and down he went, back at square one, re-injured. It's one thing to Block/Jump/Catch, as you put it, but it's quite another to add in getting hit by a defender running at full speed and really trying to "lay the wood" on you. As much as I have been such a huge fan of Pitta's, I would really hate to have to watch him go down again. I like the guy too much to want to see that happen. I hate to be a pessimist, but I just can't see good things coming from a come-back on his part. All I can do is hope that I'm wrong or that he changes his mind because I want what's best for himself and his family. Priorities, Dennis, priorities. You don't have to prove to anybody that you love the game and are a tough guy. We all already know that.

most people thought a decrepit old Tony Gonzales at 70% couldn't compete with the young guys at 100%.  Actually, that is almost exactly what was said about Steve Smith when he first came here too.  I wouldn't be too willing to label Pitta 70% or assume that his 70 - 80%, with his experience and knowledge, isn't enough to beat out the young pups.  In case you didn't notice but medicine has advanced quite considerably since Bo Jackson had the same injury just like the ACL that ended Gale Sayers career didn't end Adrian Petersons career because he had the same injury.  Being older I tend to think that a little more savvy and experience beats out youthful exuberance every time. (I think that is the basis for the turtle and the hare story as well. Aesop was no dummy.)

The only thing I can say with Pitta is that maybe his hip surgery was botched the first time around, but maybe the second surgery fixed what they did unsuccessfully the first time around. Hoping he stays healthy, even if it means retiring.
