i wouldn't be surprised if the add another DB before season starts, depth is important in a pass happy league.

This may be one of Ravens's top 3 back end defenses, maybe the best if everything goes according to plan and no one gets badly hurt. I do not see any major weaknesses on defense. Ozzie, coaches and personnel did a great job this off season. Am excited and looking forward to seeing how good this defense is going to be.

And the irony of it (hopefully) is our weakness of last year could be our greatest strength this year. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds. Only 118 days to go ! :)

I think the secondary played far beyond its expectations last year. Didn't we have like 5 or 6 DBs injured last year and we ended up playing the Patriots in the divisional round with guys we picked up from practice squads. If Pees can do that with what we had, we absolutely should be a shut down secondary this year. I think the two most critical issues that sunk this secondary in the playoffs was the loss of Jimmy Smith who was an unquestioned shut down corner and the play of Matt Elam. All the other corners were replaceable in Pees system, even Webb, but when we lost Jimmy, that was painful. With the addition of Kendrick Lewis, that should solve the other major problem from last year.

I really like Melvin, I think he played well with all things considered last year. He remineds me of Webby as a rookie. Not afraid to tackle, really good at the point of contact with his hands. I cant wait to see his growth. I also think that if Terrance brooks can come back and retain his speed he will be a factor, maybe at the end of the year. This will be a solid 53 , I can tell you that.

Lets not forget the best thing you can do to help your secondary, Get to the Qb in less then 3 seconds. We did more then sign some DB's to help our secondary. Them boys on the front 7 are no joke.

I can't stop thinking since Draft Day with all the excellent picks that we picked up In the Draft and Free Agents, the Ravens will be developing into one of the best team that Baltimore ever put on the football field, within a few years from now everyone will forget all about the other teams that were very successful, providing there's minimal injuries and no serious complications the Baltimore Raven will reach a new height. BmoreB couldn't have said it any better, If the defense falters back a little I'm sure that the Ravens will have enough fire power on Offense to overcome that, I see the Ravens getting to be the talk of the NFL, perhaps maybe I'm speaking too soon but the future is right here.

The secondary is definitly improved. If you take a look back to last year and start to remember how many guys the Ravens went through on the back end to compete last season that are still wearing purple and black and with the additions Oz and Co. have made this year it's going to be fun to watch them play this year. Last season Oz and Co. were litterally at the bottom of the barrel trying to get guys to come in at the CB position and compete and they did a really good job of doing it too. Patriots could not beat us without a few questionable / trick plays. The guys on the back end of the defense were being shuffled around more than a card deck in Vegas truth be told. Now Harbs has a few new additions to go along with the group and some of the guys like Rashaan Melvin is no longer a rookie being thrown into the fire he has big game experience a lot is going to come down to Jimmy and Webb getting healthy and back to form but if they do I think the secondary is more of a strength of this team than a weakness.

What about Gorrer? maybe it's just me but I thought he was pretty solid last year and at least he had an interception, against the titans. I didn't see him on the 90 man either, what happened? I thought he was just as good as Melvin.

Melvin was my #3 before Arrington, really think he did a great job down the playoff run, and playoffs...Brings great size, and showed he can tackle....

Agree and the bubble wrap he is talking about might be our pass rush to limit the time our corners have to cover. I'm pretty excited about the additions and think the only additions now would be to cover unexpected injuries, ungraded if a thin position ain't where they want it at camp, or just a crazy opportunity falls in his lap.

I think gorrer and the cbs we signed were 1 year, vet minimum if they weren't resigned this offseason there not on the team.

If we wanted to make this team even better we could extend Marshal Yanda, maybe get another quality corner if one available like say Johnathan Joseph can't get enough corners. But the team is sharp very sharp.

There will always be injured players in the secondary. We hope only a few. The way these guys throw themselves through the air with reckless abandonment bouncing off the turf, it's no wonder. Ed Reed great example.

I think I'm comfortable with the depth we have. Asa Jackson looked good enough to play a game if he had to. I mean he's no starter, but he's not Chykie Brown either. Rashaan Melvin will have a year to get better. Tray Walker looks like he could play zone alright.

This is the best secondary we've had in a long long time. With every other position group looking improves as well, this may very well be the best football team we've fielded assuming we don't have to account for injuries till the start of the season! The best in a long time imho.

After looking at our 90 man roster, I don't envy our coaching staff that has to whittle down this talented roster down to 53 plus practice squad group. It is most definitely an unenviable task...

Same, I think Melvin is the 4th best now. His worst game came against the Patriots but I'm pretty sure that he sustained his shoulder injury that game. The fact that he was signed and was pretty much a plug and play means he's a great fit for us.

Right now we look solid on paper, but as usual they have to live up to the teams potential on the field...There is no doubt the rest of the AFCN is worried, we really hit every position via the Draft, UDFA, and FA.....Hurry up training camp....:)

have to say, starting to feel reassured about the defensive secondary. i had real doubt. paper wise, a deep playoff run would be a disappointment. san francisco or bust

We should not forget 3 important facts: Elam, Elam and Elam. He needs to be himself again for multiple reasons (strengthen the safety, confirm and worth the value of his pick etc.)

If this does not happen then its not just a problem of the new season, it would hurt the economics.

Lets hope he only had a sophomore setback, and finds the rhythm.

Asa Jackson doesn't need more seasoning. He would make for a perfectly fine #3. What he does need is better durability, and the same can be said for our two starters as well.

Ravens were the 2nd best team in the AFC when it came down to the play offs that was clear. People keep knocking them saying they didn't upgrade the secondary and pass catchers enough. I still look on NFL Network and I see the same thing over and over when they rank the AFC North. 1. Steelers, 2. Bengals, 3. Ravens, 4. Browns. and I cannot make sense of it. Bengals did NOTHING to improve the worse pass rush in the league. Pittsburgh lost Polamalu, Worilds, and Taylor. Browns still have no play makers on the offensive side of the ball. I am more confident in this season than last year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens went 12-4 because I do think the Ravens addressed their secondary with the upgrades, yes upgrades of Kendrick Lewis and Kyle Arrington.

Let's not forget the Steelers lost LeBeau. I for one am very happy about that and glad he is in Tennessee. I think the Ravens are going to "Rock" this year!

One thing about our Ravens. When one piece of the unit struggles, they rebound strong. Remember how bad our O-line was after the SB season and look how they rebounded last season. The secondary will do the same.

They say the secondaries best friend is the front 7, i hope the youth we have really step up their game this year.....If they can pressure the QB into bad throws or get a ton of sacks we will be a top 5 Defense.....

Ravens need hard-nosed thick necked safeties and DBs on the field that want the football more than the opponents' receivers want the football. Get the football, keep the football!
