[News] Ravens Long-Time Scout Joe Douglas Accepts Job With Bears

22 posts in this topic

I read this earlier and I wonder why he would want to leave an organization that has been one of the best at scouting over the years... I don't know the details, I wonder if he saw certain players better than others that the Ravens have taken over the years. Good luck to him out in Chicago they need a couple great drafts to get back into play off contention.

Most likely, he decided that it was time for a promotion.  There is an obvious logjam which starts at the top with Ozzie and Biscotti can't continue to pay people not to go.  Good for Joe.  He's going to love Chicago...the town, that is.

Congratulations, according to his profile on this site, he was a national scout and coordinated a lot of the UDFA signings after the draft. When he was a regional scout, some of his highlights included scouting/recommending Flacco, Rice, Webb, and McPhee.

Sounds well earned.

edit - and dummy me didn't bother to read the article where they point all this out lol

You think the NFL would be more grateful to the Ravens for all their quality coaches they keep producing for other teams in the NFL.

Do we have a scout who can identify excellent new scouts? This team is our secret weapon! Congrats to Joe (but keep Bears away from our roster!).

Oh okay thanks for the details I wasn't really sure I didn't really follow it too much. Congrats from him. I am impressed how many coaches, players, and so many more of the Ravens staff have great careers here and then go to other places with their career and make other teams better. Proves this organization knows how to make great workers out of these guys. Congrats to him keep up the good work.

I wish him the best of luck and appreciate his contributions to the team. At the same time, though, I hate to see our continuity in our scouting department tampered with. That doesn't mean that we won't continue to excel in that area. We have an exceptional FO, most likely the best in the business. It will make whatever adjustments are necessary to keep us on top. You can't blame a man for taking a well deserved, and hard worked for promotion. He is supporting his family in the best way he can. Good luck, Joe, but don't give away any of our secrets and don't steal our prospects,LOL.

I get why he left promotion, bigger salary, knows the GM,promotion potential. Buuuut couldn't the ravens and have matched his salary? So much we don't know about the FO for good reason for all we know he's one of the worst scouts who we keep forgetting to fire lol.

I wonder how much this will affect the organization?

I don't think it will all that much. I feel the same way about the front office as I do about the players; Baltimore has established a mindset and a philosophy when it comes to how football is run down here so there's a precedent set for people to hold themselves to when they are brought into the system. The organization is bigger than any one person inside of it, and the people we bring in understand that immediately or they buy into it quickly.
