[News] Late For Work 5/14: Appreciating Genius Of Ozzie Newsome After Turning Frustration Into Fortune

91 posts in this topic

what seems to be left out of all the Kyle Arrington talk is, Dean Pees was his DC his rookie year in NE. So there if familiarity there and shouldn't be a learning curve or much of one to learn the defense, he is basically plug n play. which makes this signing even better.

For our secondary this year we're gonna have a recording for QB's saying "The number you have dialed is not in service." as we intercept the ball. This Secondary is gonna do amazing things.

Sarah needs to check her facts. Kyle Arrington is not a 2-Time Super Bowl Champion. Only won 1 this year against Seattle. May have played in 2 Super Bowls but only won 1 so that makes him just a Super Bowl Champion.

Great signing! He can play nickel while Smith and Webb handle the rest. Why not get another ring this year in purple?

Here's my hoping that Elam does indeed turn it around. He's a hardworking guy who takes what he does seriously, which is a better attitude than a lot of players in the NFL. 2014 sucked for him. No denying that. Go on and prove yourself, kid! True about Harbs being big on special teams - Elo, get in there, volunteer, whatever. You won't see many defensive snaps unless you hustle real hard and make a point of showing what you can do.

I don't understand how the Raven players are dropping so far down in the top 100. They had a far better year last year than 2013. Suggs goes from 26 to 84 unbelievable!

Adalius Thomas does not understand that the Patriots have been caught cheating several times. I'm sure the punishment would have been less if they didn't continually bend the rules. Honestly, apparently the punishments from before that people thought was enough clearly wasn't or they would not have done it again. The NFL did the right thing with the deflategate thing. Don't compare it to Ray Rice, Greg Hardy, or anyone else in the NFL because this has not happened before in the NFL. I'm actually surprised that Belichick did not get some sort of suspension either, because of Sean Payton's suspension a couple years back with the bounty scandal. They suspended him for just having that go on in that organization without him knowing. Belichick can wipe the sweat off his eye brow now that the punishment was dealt.

I did think that Suggs had a bad year, but in regards to the Joe Flacco ranking I have to agree. Honestly this is just a popularity contest. There are a few teams that are televised more because they are considered more popular. Like the Broncos, Patriots, Steelers, Packers, and now Seahawks... Some of it is because of their recent success but even before this last season the Steelers were terrible for 3-4 years not getting into the play offs and getting around 8-8 when constantly every season people would project them on top of the division winning 13-3. The Ravens have never really been a popular team outside of Maryland, and they go in as underdogs every year with people always expecting the Ravens to be the 8-8 team in the AFC North when they have been probably the most consistent and best team in the AFC North for 6 years now. Going into Pittsburgh in the play offs this last year everyone, and I mean probably 95% of the media, projected the Steelers to win by a pretty good margin because of the regular season game the Steelers destroyed Baltimore and always showed flash backs of that game of when our cornerbacks struggled. They NBC cast never showed one clip of the game between the two when the Ravens won 26-6 or whatever it was earlier that year. There are just more popular teams in the media for whatever reason and I guess fans of teams that aren't as popular just need to just ignore it and move on.

Brady and the Pats aren't above the league and it's good to see the league put them in their place....If you don't cheat you don't have to worry about any punishments....If you do and get caught, then take your medicine, and go sit timeout....

If we can just stay healthy this year, the sky is the limit for this team. I am super stoked right now!!!

As far as the top 100 lists go, I don't know if the players just want to spite the Ravens or simply don't know football AT ALL.

Do you really believe the players vote means anything to ESPN? They put whoever they want in whatever order they want. Its all a promotional popularity thing.

It makes me sick to hear all these people defend a team that has a long history of cheating over the last decade. Why is this so hard for people to understand. A friend of mine from Boston posted yesterday on my FB page... You only hate him because he's great! I told him.... You need to keep telling yourself that.

I hate him because he cries for flags, and commands special treatment. And if they reduce this punishment, I think you'll hear an even louder uproar from fans... Br*dy will be boo'ed in every stadium he walks into this year.

Who cares about these "Top 100" lists?! All that matter is: Who is the best team? And that is decided on the field. Very excited for this season! GO RAVENS!!!

Adalius Thomas does not understand that the Patriots have been caught cheating several times.

He was with the Patriots in 2007 during "Spygate" he totally understands. He probably benefitted from knowing what the other team was going to do. To bring up Murder was way over reaching. I lost all Respect For Adalius back in 2008 when he was bad Mouthing Ray Lewis. He Played with Ray for 7 years, I expected more from him.

Top 100 The Ravens getting very little respect.............how many "chips" will be shouldered by dropping Suggs,Average Joe and even Ngata in Detroit? Pity the fool that believes these snubs won't matter when the season starts. Ys think Andy Dalton is on the list? Matty "ice" above Joe? OK T-Sizzle let's play some Ravenball.

Ravens don't get respect from the NFL when voting on paper. However, when it comes down to playing them on the field, they just fear us.

Ozzie does indeed do a great deal of magical things in managing the team, but this signing isnt really one of them. He's done a lot of things that are far more impressive.

A mid level corner lacking versatility got the low ball treatment from his old team and a real contender (who can win without cheating AND give him the chance to beat that old team in the playoffs) approached him with a decent offer after all the big spenders were already gone in the twilight of free agency: that's a very easy decision for everybody involved, no magic needed, thats just supply and demand. beggars cant be choosers: simple as that.

In January, the Ravens’ playoff run was cut short after Patriots quarterback Tom Brady orchestrated two 14-point comebacks. Baltimore’s secondary just couldn’t stop him as the unit was decimated by injuries and there wasn’t enough depth to hold it together.

Wrong. The secondary was sound in the second half, they just didnt know who to cover because the Patriots were doing shady junk.

I could honestly care less about the top 100. The only people that should care are the players themselves and even that is stretching it a little. It's based on fan voting, enough said. The only thing that I care about is how other teams feel when they have to play the Ravens. And that is FEAR! Especially in the playoffs. Go Ravens!

But that's all we ever hear from fans... words. Booing. Hundreds of thousands of people every year will plop down good money to Boo Tom Brady

Very, very, very good news for the NFL, the Patriots, and for Tom Brady. That means people aren't really outraged after all. If they were, the booing would actually decrease, because the stadium would have less people in it.

Everybody fully understands. Its just a difference in level of perspective for most.

I think the next time I watch the Top 100 it'll be to see the absurdity of where some of these players are ranked and the "logic" behind them. It's hard to ignore it sometimes.

Wrong. The secondary was sound in the second half, they just didnt know who to cover because the Patriots were doing shady junk.

Now you're just reaching. There's still another 11 completions for almost 150 yards from the mid-3rd quarter on that were done with completely and utterly "non-shady" formations.

We gave up two legitimate passing TDs in the first half, and two legitimate passing TDs in the second half, and the yardage numbers (if you exclude the "shady" drive) were higher in the second half for Brady.

I suppose if we were comparing our second half pass defense to that of what we accomplished in Pittsburgh when we gave up 6 TDs, then sure we were "sound". By normal NFL standards... not sound.

These were voted on BY the players...  WAY before any of that even started.

Most people won't plop down money to boo Br*dy... That's cliche'.  They won't plop down any more than they would have to see Peterson, Ray, or Hardy...  They will plop down money to watch their team play, and if it's that week that the Cheatriots are in town, then all the better...  then they can Boo him as well.

Arrington is a great pick up.... for our needs! We seem to be two deep just about everywhere! IDK.... last time I said we looked two deep at every position... we hoisted the Lombardi... obviously we will need to stay healthy but I really like the product that we are putting on the field this season (and its only May)!

Why should we boycott the Ravens because we dont like Tom Brady cheating?

They only have 8 away games, you really think 8 undersold games out of 256 is gonna make a dent in NFL revenue? They'll still be pulling in tv money btw, and there are plenty fo bandwagon fans all over the country who will tune into watch Brady...

I think they deserve much more respect than they get. I know not many people here repect them but it's because they know so little about them.
