12-hour shifts are the worst

I think all the pinned threads messed me up too haha

I think they need unpinned at this stage!

I was late to this news as well due to pinned threads. This secondary might do things this year!

classic Ozzie move. Classic Raven Move. making little moves in the offseason that turn up big for us down the stretch. Ozzie has done this time and time again. nice move Oz.

i'm excited about this signing as any ravens fan, but some writer brought up an intersting point, from this article from Russell street report , why would the pats release the CB? whats the reason ? they couldn't have released him b/c of $3 mill?  hmmm........................

Because he is a slot corner and they believe they have a guy who can play as well for much cheaper.

He carried a $4.5 mill cap hit, and they just won a Super Bowl. Just like the Ravens did they won't hang onto good players if they aren't the right value.

They have young players at the position they want to give more snaps that are cheaper - they need to get these guys on the field so they can contribute for the next Super Bowl run and while Arrington makes them better now, $4.5 mill is just too much for a rotational nickle corner.

Besides they didn't want to get rid of him just wanted him at a lesser number. They tried to resign him, we just made a better offer.

This signing, to me, is mostly exciting because it really solidifies one of the few areas where I felt we were lacking in depth. Obviously you never know when or how injuries are going to affect you (how many CBs did we lose last year???), but as of this moment the only question mark I see is our defensive line...and even then, we haven't seen them play and they could very well be as good as last year even with the loss of Ngata.

Arrington provides solid depth and a very reasonable price. I still haven't seen the yearly breakdown of his contract, but I hope he's here for more than one year. We have a bunch of young talent at CB who could benefit tremendously from working with a veteran in the league. Kyle isn't a loud mouth, he isn't a show off, he goes out and gets his job done (when he's in the slot). Hopefully he'll be about to help kids like Melvin improve their game so that they can be counted on when the time comes.

EDIT: Also, looking at our roster on paper (I know, it's just paper), the only area that I see us as worse than last year is d-line and we haven't even seen them play yet. Everything else (once again, only on paper) looks like its been upgraded.

And even the d-line, we lost Ngata and McPhee rotating in but Jernigan and Williams will be a year better, Canty will hopefully be healthy, Brent Urban and KLM who both looked explosive and powerful last year before injury will be returning, and we added young talents in Carl Davis and Za'Darius.

Yes we lost 2 proven and productive contributors but we still have one of the best line backing corps and an improved secondary which both improve the D-Line and have young talent just bursting at the seams.

Sure they're question marks at this point but by having 4-5 of them who have flashed serious potential 1 or 2 at least are bound to reach that potential. If Jernigan can do what he did last year as a full time player and just 1 of Urban, Davis, KLM and Za'Darius can have a big impact I think we'll be far better overall.

I'm glad we lost starters on the dline bc if we hadn't then Urban, KLM and Davis likely wouldn't get a real shot. Now they'll be forced on the field and I think they explode. We're going to have an embarrassment of riches on the line after this season.

it's pretty simple: Belichick thinks he is way more clever than he is.

Coverage assignments:

Jimmy Smith - Best/tall receiver (Demaryius, Amari Cooper, AJ, Antonio Brown, Torrey, D. Parker, Larry Fitz, Baldwin)

Lardarius Webb - Nifty, savvy veteran receiver (Boldin, Stills, Baldwin, Jennings, Kearse)

Kyle Arrington - Shifty slot receiver (John Brown, Sanu, Wheaton, Jarvis Landry, E. Sanders, Keenan)

Rashaan Melvin - Tall receiver (Martavius Bryant, Michael Floyd, C. Latimer, Bowe, Quick, Chris Matthews)

Asa Jackson (Depth)

Tray Walker (Depth)

Will Hill - Receiving TE (Jimmy Graham, Antonio Gates, Jordan Cameron, Heath, Lance Kendricks, Julius Thomas, Eifert)

Kendrick Lewis - Roaming the backfield

I agree with almost everything. I question though whether Jimmy should be on Cooper rather than Crabtree. I just feel he'd be better served taking on the bigger more physical receiver and let the vet technician Webb take care of the youngster. But i trust either on both, just my two cents.

The Ravens have 6 years of NFL tape to evaluate his talent, they definitely have a solid idea of what they're getting in Kyle.
Also, he has to pass the physical. Any potential injury concerns should surface during that process.

As to reasons why he's no longer with the Cheatriots:

-Maybe he wanted out (he's a Maryland native which probably also played a part)

-Maybe they tried to resign him for less money, when Ozzie swooped in and grabbed him

-Maybe they want to go a different direction, seeing as they let most of their secondary go (does that mean Revis and Browner are fishy signings, because they were released as well?)

It's a good, cheap (rumored 3 yr, 7.5 mill) move, Ozzie strikes again.

Yep, I completely agree with everything you said (and you worded it far better than I did).  Its a good problem to have - our only real "weakness" on paper is that we haven't yet seen how the d-line will play, but all indications from seeing the players in limited snaps (and during Ngata's suspension) point to us not losing much (if any) ability to dominate on the inside.

I would like to get a little deeper at corner, and now that I think of it, we generally face the same "issue" at receiver - for the most part we haven't seen how that group will work, but I have very high hopes after the draft.

So now that we signed a slot only cornerback who's playing outside? Jimmys good but Webb hasn't looked too good outside...

Webb is The Ravens outside corner.Webb didn't look good last season but his play improved during the later portion of the season . His back injury or other injuries he had last season should  be fully healed by training camp or by now. The other outside corners The Ravens have besides Jimmy Smith and Ladarius Webb are Rashaan Melvin, Tray Welker, Asa Jackson, and Tramin Jacobs.
