[News] John Harbaugh Envisions 'Big Year' From Marlon Brown

47 posts in this topic

Tricky situation at WR. We kept 6 last year, but we only had 3 TE's. 9 pass catchers. If Pitta decides to play, we will have 4 TE's. So SSS, Perriman, M. Brown, Aiken, and/or Campanero/Waller/Carter/Worthy. Unless we keep 10 pass catchers, which I doubt since we have such a deep team. That is why I kind of want Pitta to just retire. Go with the young TE corp of Gilmore, Williams, and Boyle, and keep 6 WR's instead of 5. Plus we will save money from Pitta's cap hit. There is just too many positives in Pitta retiring at this point.

I think we will have to go with either Camp or Carter, with SSS keeping all 3 gives us small WR corp, where i think we are going bigger with the draft picks, and UDFA we signed....Seems like between the drafted WR's and UDFA signings they are all 6-2 or taller, and go 220

I see what you mean and I like the move to bigger receivers too.  But then I look at SSS and how his fighting attitude makes him a foot taller.  I like that old saying "it's not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog".  If the bigger players are also fighters like Anquan Boldin was then I'm all for them.  He was so combative for the ball that they said of him "he was open even when he was covered".

I agree.... I think that marlon has the ability to take it to the next level but I also think that this is a full stable and he will compete for time... Obviously SSS and BPerriman will be # 1 and # 2's but the real competition is for the slot and / or the # 3 WR (Campanaro expects to be in the mix, Waller will be interestng if he can make the squad and will be a redzone threat... Kamar looked to get better as the season went on - so while marlon should improve he will need to - to take the next step! Hoping he does!

He has the potential of being one of the best WR s in the conference, great size for th position. We shall see if he fulfills any of that potential.

I, too have high hopes for Marlon. I really believe he could be the No. 2 receiver on this team, esp. cause Perriman is a rookie. I'd look for a lot of passes to go to Brown and Steve, as well as Perriman, as long as they aren't dropping passes, they will be given opportunities here, the way this team is shaking out.

He also lost snaps to Jacoby. I don't see that happening this season. I see him getting plenty of red zone targets this season. Brown and Perriman on the outside with SSS in the slot could be a dangerous passing option.

I like Marlon, and think this year is his chance to really stand out. Torrey and Jacoby are gone, SSS is getting limited reps to keep him fresh - perfect time to prove he's a solid #2 or #3 receiver, and not just a red zone target. Personally I am not sold on Aiken or Campanaro as starting receivers - there's a reason the former has bounced around, and the latter went in the end of the 7th round. Not saying they're worthless, just probably not starters.

I get what you're saying, but Forsett also bounced around before finding a home last year and was a stud. Wes Welker, and Josh Gordon went undrafted; Antonio Brown in the 6th. They (along with others in the same boat) played extremely well once given the opportunity. Not saying this is be the case, but you never know.

We can't just say our Rookie 1st round pick is going to be a #1 or #2. He has not played a single snap yet. We have the right to be excited for what he brings to the table because we have a solid group of WRs who are going to have their hands full. Steve Smith Sr. is the only guaranteed WR on the roster as we speak. The rest will have to earn it. There are a number of players on our roster who are expected to have a solid year and Marlon is no exception. Let's hope for an injury-free and competitive training camp. Cheers!

Marlon has drops in practice... but seldom had drops in games... he has hands... just suffers from concentration drops...

Blank slate, win the job & you play, it's the Raven way. Brown will go as far as his talent and will will let him. Perriman ain't a #1 because he was drafted,he'll need to earn it. 6'5" looks mighty good to Joe so let's sit back and watch who really are

the Raven WRs this year.

Yes, and I think the Ravens did an excellent job of leaving that possibility open. We saw them do similar things recently with e.g. Tommy Streeter, Deonte Thompson, Tandon Doss, etc. - not ruling them out, giving them a chance to prove themselves, but dumping them when the time came. If Camp and Aiken turn out to be good, so much the better!

I like Marlon a lot. Once again, like last year with SSS's arrival, he'll have some stiff competition for reps. Barring the dreaded "injury" word, one might envision SSS and Perriman as being the top two options, but only time will tell. Marlon's got everything he needs to excel. He's got size, speed, great hands, and an Awesome team-first attitude. It's hard not to root for success for him. I, for one, hope he sees the field more this year than he did last year. Harbaugh has stated that he'd like to lessen SSS's snaps to keep him fresh for the entire season, so that might help. But, bottom line, All the receivers are just going to have to earn their snaps and I just have a feeling that Marlon Will be busier this season. Wish him the best. Put the best ones on the field.

I'm telling you, this wr competition is really going to be something this camp. At least, I think it will be. We can only carry so many, so I see the IR tag being used to keep somebody we don't believe would clear waivers in an attempt to put him on the PS. Those "phantom" injuries have a way of occurring very near the final cut day. We just have a bunch of guys who show real good potential and it would really be a bummer to see any of them performing at a high level for some other team. That would be so ironic since it seems like we were always somewhat lacking in the wr department. Well, I don't think that's the case anymore. The thing is, though, some of them are so young and have to learn and develop that it becomes a little more difficult to know just who we want to keep. I think no matter how it shakes there are going to be some disappointed fans because all the wr candidates have their supporters and I guess we're going to Have to cut at least a couple of them. It's a nice problem to have, though.
