[News] John Harbaugh Envisions 'Big Year' From Marlon Brown

47 posts in this topic

It's all or nothing for Marlon, sky's the limit. There's no excuse for Marlon not to have a big year. If he struggles in camp for a 2nd straight year, I can see Waller taking his spot if he continues to impress.

Easily our #3 receiver. Trestman likes those big receivers. And he has great hands. I dont see Camp being his competition. Or Aiken. Camp will have to compete with Carter as for who spells Sr. Brown will compete with Waller for that other big outside guy. Trestman loves the 2TE 2WR 1RB formation. Maxx Gilmore and Boyle will rotate. All big guys who can block and catch. This offense will def keep defenses guessing.

I'm in favor of this, been a fan of his since his pre-season performance as a rook....

Marlon is going to have to significantly improve to have a big year this year. SSS and injuries were not the only reason he had such little production last year. He still got far more offensive snaps than Aiken, yet Aiken had more catches, more TDs, and more yds than Marlon, and in the playoffs, Aiken had surpassed him as the #3 receiver, in regards to snap count. Torrey is gone this year, but we have a lot of talented rookies, a better ability to run 2 TE sets, and Camp, who showed the ability to get separation and make big catches before his injury last year, is healthy. There should be some great competitions at WR.

while he definitely started off hot for us, especially in that game against the vikings, he's attitude definitely spiked after SSS joined the team. he showed fire last season. he's production dropped but dude has been sitting near SSS at the lunch table thats for sure.Hope SSS attitude rubs off all our receivers.

I'd like to see him step up and play like if it were the last game he'll ever. I saw the Vikings game and man, I screamed like a girl with that touchdown! I am a girl, but you get my point...

It's springtime in the NFL and hope for WRs springs eternal. This year we are likely to have six decent ones on the 53. Sure hope Marc puts them in favorable situations to succeed. Should be fun watching.

I don't recall a time Marlon dropped a pass that hit him in the hands. I want to see him on the field. People outside Baltimore look down on our wide receivers but I am pretty happy with the guys we have. My concern was the lack of speed guys with the departure of Torrey but obviously Perriman brings that back to the table.

Marlon didn't struggle in camp last year. He was one of our most reliable receivers incamp. preseason, regular season, and post season. There were quite a few times I saw him open on the replay but Joe didn't see him. If they throw the ball his way he will catch it. I see him having a big year if they target him and give him a chance.

Although I believe we really got some talent in this years draft, I've watched a lot of interviews with these young guys and the thing that sticks out for me more than the obvious talent is, you can see there was a strong emphasis on attitude and demeanor for sure. I know I'm jumping out on a limb here but I'm predicting Mad Maxx is going to have a very high selling Jersey here in a couple years! If he doesn't end up with a Todd Heap type persona,(Minus the airborne acrobatics please!) I'll be surprised. I'm expecting him to be probably the best TE in the league in a very short time. I think the kid's got it. I'm sure our other draft picks will do well but he just stands out to me as what could be our best pick this year and he's on the right team this year to do it with Joe at the helm and our love of the 2 TE set.

Sami, Marlon did have a few times be was off route and Flacco didn't know which way he would go. Knowing Joe, from his revealed comments wants receivers torn precise routes, I think Marlon was off on some but he is getting better and that was obvious. I think he will shine this year. Steve is not here just to catch balls but to help mentor and change the Ravens receiving corps into physical Ravens players, change the culture and that is difficult to do and he has done it along with Bobby. I would love to see him back one more year next year too. Can't say enough about good Steve Smith senior, natural Raven. But back to Marlon, I think Harbs is dead on. My only worry is that the Ravens will have to make serious choices about how many receivers they can keep after camp. Odd for traditional Ravens teams but potentially interesting and even amazing if the QB whisperer works his magic. Interesting.

I certainly hope he does have a great year. Sami has it right, though. Joe just didn't target him that much. But when the ball came to him, he caught it, and his YAC got better and better as the season went on. I love Marlon, and am really routing for him to succeed this year. I think he should be used more in the red zone too.

Sami, Marlon Brown did struggle last year in OTAs & minicamp. He had trouble picking up Kubiaks system & dropped too many passes (some of them being uncontested). This was well reported by Jamison Hensley & even our own official Baltimore Ravens Website. Marlon brown even admitted that he had troubles with drops that summer (2014). He played solid during the regular season but definitely struggled during OTAs & minicamp leading up to that season.

Marlon struggled with the new offense last year, but by years end, he caught about everything thrown his way....With this offense staying intact, i have no doubt Marlon will once again shine.....

IMHO if your expecting some sort of ODB type of season from him your wrong, I think there's just too many weapons on this team for Joe to spread the ball out to, but I do think that he'll be very productive and so will the others. With SSS, Perriman, 3 huge TE(Williams, Boyle, Gilmore) not including Pitta, Aiken and Campanaro showcasing their strengths and great starting ability, a dual threat RB, and Waller and Carter impressing in minicamp it will be very hard for any one of them to have some grand season. It will be very interesting to see who comes out on top and who makes it to that final 53, I say it will be SSS, Perriman, Brown, Camp, and Aiken. Carter will be return man and Waller on IR. I'm so excited for next season...can't wait.

I think we will have to go with either Camp or Carter, with SSS keeping all 3 gives us small WR corp, where i think we are going bigger with the draft picks, and UDFA we signed....Seems like between the drafted WR's and UDFA signings they are all 6-2 or taller, and go 220

I'm strongly, strongly pulling for Marlon (I'm actually a Colts fan but happened to stumble onto this article). He went to high school (Harding) here in Memphis and we shared mutual friends after high school and he would come over to our house and chill, play video games, etc. before he eventually left for UGA. He was playing so well during his final year there and he had a great chance to get drafted before his injury. I was so happy to see Ozzie -- best GM in the NFL -- and Co. take a shot on him and was even more happy when he eventually made the roster. When I saw that Torrey Smith signed with SF, the first thing I thought of was Marlon's playing time. Really, really hope he beats out Perriman in camp and grabs the No. 2 spot and has a great 1,000 yard season. He's definitely my favorite non-Colt in the NFL. Everyone in Memphis is pulling for you Marlon... Go get em!

I like Marlon, and think this year is his chance to really stand out. Torrey and Jacoby are gone, SSS is getting limited reps to keep him fresh - perfect time to prove he's a solid #2 or #3 receiver, and not just a red zone target. Personally I am not sold on Aiken or Campanaro as starting receivers - there's a reason the former has bounced around, and the latter went in the end of the 7th round. Not saying they're worthless, just probably not starters.

Merryjman you pretty much said everything I wanted to :)

I reckon Marlon will be a solid #3 this year, and a great #2 next year with a hopefully blistering Perriman as #1

It's a good looking receiving corp, with all but two (SSS and hopefully Pitta) on rookie rates ... how good is that

Flacco has some serious targets this year. Keep the playoff mentality. Play to win, not to not lose and this offense will be brutal. Add in another top 10 defense and Joe gets his second ring.
