im wondering if we are being too optimistic with these young guys….outside of jeremy shockey and Gronk i don't know many rookie tight ends that end up having a Big first season..

anyhow..lets see..i know he's going to be a good player but will this coming year be too early for him?

I don't know that we need him to to get great production from our TE's.

Pittas ahead of schedule and Gillmore has been catching everything and a beast in the red zone.

I think Maxx will be afforded a year to develop and will have a few plays built into the play book that he really excels with. He'll make some plays but hopefully won't be counted on to carry the position group. I think he'll end up being the 3rd tE by week 4-6.

Even if he plays a full season, this will be Pitta's last year as a Raven. Maxx and Boyle along with Gilmore will be the TEs in 2016. Pitta can help the young guys learn so they can make a major impact next season.

Why would the Ravens cut him if he played the entire season well to save only 500k and leave 6M in dead money on the possibility that the young guys might be better?  Just from a purely logical perspective I can not see the Ravens cutting Pitta unless they have to for another 2 seasons when the savings become actually meaningful.

Hoping this is just a bad angle or something, but good lord does Suggs look out of shape.  He admitted he was in his presser today, but seeing it is a whole different story.

It's not a bad angle.  There's another pic I saw of him and he's definitely big. guess he wants to take his buddy's Ngata's spot on the line.

Yea that's not a good look at all. However Suggs has proven to be a guy who can buckle down in the 5-6 weeks before camp and get in great shape. The closer he gets to the end of his contract the more he probably focuses on his other business ventures during the offseason. The concerning part is, I beleive the last time there was question about Suggs weight was the season before the Super Bowl in which he struggled the entire season. This would be a bigger story if it were TC, i'm not worried right now.

the older one gets the harder it becomes to cut that weight

I'd still much rather have the in-shape version of Suggs lol

That's on Suggs. If he now has to workout 3 times a day instead of two or implement a more rigorous training to cut weight over a 5-6 week period then that's what he'll have to do. Harder is not impossible. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as a Pro and leader to know what he has to do. He's not required to stay in shape during the offense, he's just required to report to TC at a certain weight. How he gets to that weight is on him.

Oh no doubt. That's like watching your investment portfolio at 12n and seeing the market at a all-time high. Of course you'd like to know that whatever stock or index you are tracking will close at that record breaking pace but in reality you just have no idea or control over where the market will close at 4pm.

I'd love to see Suggs rocked up, chiseled and looking like he's ready to terrorize the NFL, but from the looks of that pic, he's not and I have no control over the outcome lol.  I just gotta wait and see where he's at in 5-6 weeks.

IMO as a leader, he should set a good example for rookies even during mini-camp.  Part of that is coming to camp in some sort of shape.

Did we convert Suggs to DT? Lol I kid.

I won't lie that the weight does concern me. Suggs hasn't proven that he's great with a lot of weight. There's still time but if he doesn't shed that midsection, our pass rush could be in some trouble.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned. I think he can cut that weight by camp, but 1. that'd be tough and 2. he needs to not lose any strength while losing weight. He said he feels okay conditioning-wise but, uh... we'll see about that.

I also think that bit about taking it easy in the early offseason to save energy for the late part of the season is BS. Ray would work out endlessly every day and never slowed down at the end of the season. You work out in the offseason so that you don't slow down. You work out in the offseason to make sure you stay fast in the postseason.

Really questioning Suggs' work ethic right now. Disappointing.

Oh no doubt, but no one said he was the greatest leader. If you have a guy like Smith Sr that is taking over that mentor/lead by example role and showing they younger guys what it means to play like a Raven then it's not needed as much from Suggs. Imo Sizzle is that next man up, last man standing type of leader. Once Ray and Ed left Suggs was just the next man up in terms of mouth piece leadership. But if I had to designate who the leaders are, I'd say Daryl Smith, Steve Smith and Joe Flacco in terms of guys who you look to and say if you don't know what to do follow them. So thankfully we have those guys and a great leader in Harbs that set the tone for these young guys.

now lets be clear, i'm not saying Suggs should be given a pass or anything, I'm just saying that for me, I'm not worried right now, just wanna see how he comes into camp.

Ray Lewis was and still is a freak when it comes to working out. Everybody can't be Ray. Different guys have dfferent ways of going about getting ready for the season. Even going back to college Suggs has always been the type of guy who's weight fluctuated. so allowing himself to go so deep into the offseason before getting into shape definitely seems like a mistake, but we'll see.  But comparing him to Ray Lewis is a mistake imo. Ray is a HOFer for more then just his on field play.

Disappointed in Suggs, we're this close to being super bowl contenders and he decides to be a temporary liability, you aren't an effective pass rusher if your fat. Hope Za'darius is taking things nor seriously.

You people need to calm down. He's getting older. We all knew this would come at some point.

I'm more worried about his nodding and winking at retirement and all of the "13 is 13" talk than I am about him needing to drop ten or so.

Andre Johnson would have been a good sign for a year or two, why not really got for a ring this year? With Perriman and Smith in slot it would have been awesome. There's just so many questions with our offense this thing could go really great or really bad with all this uncertainty.

Yeah Suggs also has dealt with some issues between him and wife. I think she request for a divorce so  maybe his mind set just been to chill lately and clear his mind or something.

Wow. Guys need to chill. If this was preseason sorry even TC I'd barely be worried. Suggs has too much pride to just mail it in now...give him the benefit of the doubt at least until the season starts

Justin Houston is a FA next year ...

just saying incase

And he'll probably be the most sought after and highest paid FA if he doesn't get the tag.

Suggs was in this same position two or three years ago and dropped the weight quick...not worried even if he is older.

Breshad on the other hand is a concern. I'm going to take the early drops as nervousness around the vets but hope he can shake that concern before game day.

I don't really like Breshad blaming all of his drops on concentration. The more he says it, the more I think it's just an excuse.
