[News] Late For Work 5/12: 5 Reasons Recently Cut CB Kyle Arrington Makes Sense For Ravens

76 posts in this topic

Heard Mike and Mike this morning and Darren Woodson brought up that the game in which these deflated footballs could have had a larger impact was the week before against the Ravens where at halftime the temperature was 8 degrees with wind chill and the Patriots officially only tallied 4 run attempts in the second half, all 4 were Brady sacks. I assume he's done the legwork to confirm those numbers.

This combined with the interview from Eli Manning in which he admits that he tested out softer footballs after this hoopla broke and did find that it's easier to throw and catch balls with less air should give us something to think about.

I know guys like Aaron Rogers think this is much ado about nothing and we as an organization like to put this stoic image of not caring and winning anyway out there, but fair is fair. These guys broke the rules. And they most likely did it against us in a close game.

And all the talk of "oh well we gave up two 14 point leads" and "oh but our secondary sucked" and "no one forced Joe to make that pass to Torrey and Torrey to play it weak" is besides the point given that all of that coulda changed with one crucial drop or fumble by the Pats if the balls weren't softened for them to cheat.

We coulda been in another Super Bowl.

The picture of Flacco along with the quote "getting hyped" is probably the funniest thing I'll see today.  Way to look hyped Joe.

I was thinking Steve Smith, Jah Reid and Chris Canty could be on their way out. Admittedly, two quality vets but we have a lot of quality young players. Lots of time to speculate. :)

I was thinking this seemed possible also.  Smith, Aiken, and Brown are all more proven, and obviously Perriman is a lock to make the team.  I would think Darren Waller would make the team as a 6th round draft pick this year.  So if we are holding six recievers there would be one slot left and he'd be competeing for it.  That being said, knowing we will have a fullback and three tight ends I don't think it would be unreasonable for us to go with only five recievers.  He's also got a little bit of an injury history.  Whatever, it would give him more time to hang out at Scores.

Every time I watch another 1 of the interview replays of Brady's smug, smirking and condescending attitude in response to the illegal substitutions or Deflategate, I am astonished. Brady's delusional sense of entitlement to bold face lie is truly astounding but certainly won't win him any Oscar's....especially now that he is exposed.

Sorry to hear that Tray Walker might not be ready to contribute immediately.

I don't think he was ever expected to be, so this seems not to be an unpleasant surprise.

It would, indeed, be a good find to somehow snatch Arrington - but I don't thnik it's gonna happen. I think he's gonna sooner be claimed off waivers by another team ahead of us in the waiver order.

Here is my opinion regarding the 'slap on the wrist' punishment meted out by the NFL: The bottom line is this is a clear collusion between the league and the Patriots. The outcry by the Pats is part of the plan. First the NFL puts down a punishment which doesn't really measure up to constant cheating by the Pats and winning games at the expense of other teams. Not by talent but by cheating and bending rules. Now, how does the NFL get out from under this?

They tell the Pats this: We'll suspend Brady only for 4 games instead of a year. We won't suspend Belichick. We'll fine the Pats a paltry 1MM and dock you a first round and 4th round the next couple of years, instead of taking several consecutive first round picks away. We will let Kraft continue his cheating ways and we won't force him to sell the team (which is deserving). After we levy this less than fair punishment, you (patriots) in concert with several bloggers (who you'll pay in money or kind or those that are generally sympathetic to you), will launch a public relations outcry (fake of course) and scream at the top of your voices that it isn't fair and the punishment was too severe! Do it through cohorts in the media as well as Brady's agent, dad and whoever else you can find too! Don't stop there. Put out a statement stating how unfair you think this punishment is!

What this will do is create a degree of confusion and angst amongst NFL fans (repetitive messaging works) and some will immediately begin to believe the Pats version. After a couple of weeks of this fake anger, denial and media barrage, the really lenient punishment to the Patriots will be replaced by a punishment that will be thought of as fair. And both parties win! The NFL and the Patriots!

What a crock of a punishment this is people! Total collusion to help the Patriots with just a slap on the wrist in essence. The punishment that was fair in this instance imust be considered with this context. It is that the Patriots are serial cheaters and have potentially deflated balls for several years now, just not the AFCC. This taints every victory they have achieved in the past decade or so. This also takes away wins from teams they have beaten by cheating.

Brady, Belichick and Kraft are serial cheaters. The fair punishment would've been 1 yr suspensions for both Brady and Belichick. A $10M fine for Kraft and a reduction in salary cap by another $10 M for the next 3 yrs. The 30 M that they lose in salary cap space should be distributed to the other 31 teams in the NFL to keep the NFLPA happy. Seriously consider forcing Kraft to sell the team to a group that has more integrity ( just about anyone else). Get rid of their first round picks for 3 consecutive years. Finally vacate their SB title from 2014.

However, with this fake incredulous reaction by the Patriots and their media cohorts, they are trying to blunt the ridiculously low penalty levied on them by the NFL. They are all in on this.

I wouldn't be surprised if Waller and Boyle on the practice squad. Boyle only if Pitta comes back, if not then Boyle will definitely be the 3rd tight end on the roster. But I could see Steve Smith, Breshad Perriman, Kamar Aiken, Marlon Brown, and Michael Campanaro on the same roster.... I also wouldn't be surprised if this undrafted receiver they have goes on the practice squad as well. Lower picks and undrafted receivers usually need a couple years to be groomed.

I'd say it's far better Tray Walker had trouble covering Perriman than Perriman had trouble getting separation from Walker during rookie mini-camp. Perriman did what was expected. Maybe Perriman is so good he made Walker look worse than he really is. That's what I'm hoping! Perriman becomes the elite number 1 WR and Walker becomes a very solid corner this year. Go Ravens.

Here is my opinion regarding the 'slap on the wrist' punishment ...

@EllicottRaven

I don't necessarily subscribe to this conspiracy angle.

Of the limited words I heard on this yesterday, Ryan Clark's were the most sober and measured. He basically reiterated what Shefter confirmed this morning. The NFL saw this as Brady taking PEDs. Whether you took drugs or pressured lowly staff into cheating with equipment, bottom line is you compromised the integrity of the competition. What's the suspension for a first PED offense? 4 games.

Right now there's still debate as to whether Kraft is going to backtrack on his words from the Wells report release and appeal the draft pick punishment as excessive.

Some people tried to twist and make a case out of "well the Wells report exonerated the organization so why are they punishing them with the picks" argument. But it's been well established as a principle (as we saw with Bounty Gate) that coaches and GMs that let this kind of activity go on, even by neglect, are liable to be punished.

Why do people believe Steve Smith will get cut? Was I the only person watching the games where the 36 year old was the only person on our offense when it was stalled for quarters like in both the Bengals games and several others...? I really don't think this team would have went to the play offs at all last season if we didn't sign Steve Smith when we did. Most the other receivers had trouble getting open against average cornerbacks and Steve Smith would still somehow get open all season for the most part as a #1 receiver at 36 years old.

Hey you only get better going up against the best. Walker will eventually be another contributor like Cart Williams.

While I think the punishment was too lenient given the Pat's long and storied history of breaking rules, or abusing gaps in the rulebook, I think the real outcome is yet to come. If we see a major decrease in Brady's productivity or an increase in his fumbles and botched snaps can we infer that he's cheated his entire career? And if so, does that put an asterisk next to the past decade of football? Will the Pat's legacy be the same mark on football as the steroid era in baseball?

The Saturday Night Live skit a while back was right on to the tee about Deflategate! Youtube it folks, you'll laugh your butt off! And Go Ravens, it would be nice to see the Patriots on the road in the playoffs, which they will get that far because of the division they are in.

i wont be surprised if canty, Jah, Pitta, Elam, get cut/cut/retire/cut

Cutting Canty wouldn't make sense to me since he was released during free agency and then brought back for less.

But hey, nothing surprises me.

Much simpler for me...

I don't think any reasonable person actually thinks this punishment was lenient. I think most reasonable people believe that the punishment was far closer to harsh than it was to lenient. I get, though don't agree with, the 4 game suspension for Brady, since it very much falls in line with a standard PED suspension for "cheating", although the punishment was likely much more severe, given his lack of cooperation.

I thought the fine was sufficient, and its really the only way to hold the other people (ballboys) accountable.

The draft pick penalty is laughable to me though, because its completely contradictory to the entire investigation that the NFL had an independent party conduct. But either way, I don't really care.

Cutting Elam isn't happening either. It would cost almost $1M more against the cap to cut him than to keep him.

Of those four, there's basically a zero percent chance he gets released, barring some off-field transgression.
