[News] Late for Work 5/11: Would Ed Reed Like A Statue At M&T Bank Stadium?

54 posts in this topic

Let us petition to get a statue for Reed and while we are at it, a statue for Jonathan Ogden as well. The 3 all time great players to be drafted by the Ravens! Ray Lewis, Ogden and Ed Reed are all equally deserving of a statue imho. One is already a first ballot HOFer, and two more are on their way!

I agree... Those guys are deserving.  But the statues can be in different places.  They don't have to be right there out front.

Maybe if we put the statue at another entrance???

I mean, the O's have the jersey numbers in one place at Camden Yards, but we have to realize there is a "qualifier"...  or you're gonna have statues everywhere around the stadium.  And I think we can, just maybe not out front there.  People can see the different players all the way around the stadium, maybe.

We requested Ray's statue be placed there from the Unitas family, I believe.  And they were honored.  Not sure we should crowd up that section of the stadium entrance....  Just my opinion.

I agree Mom. Plenty of options for other places besides the stadium entrance. Other statues could be additional points of interest, aesthetically pleasing and pay tribute to our growing Ravens history.  Love it. I'm in.

I think the statue situation is right, Ed was a great player, but RL52 wasn't just a great player, and a great defensive leader, but the ultimate team leader, he could will the entire team to victories....That's what separates him from everyone else....

Whether or not it is a statue of the size and prominence that we gave to Unitas and Lewis is up for debate. However, I think some sort of commemorative object outside of the stadium is deserved by Reed and by Ogden.

I like doing something akin to what the Yankees have done in their "Monument Park". The greatest of greats get monuments. Others get plaques. To me it is a no-brainer that anyone in the Hall would be represented. Reed clearly belongs in that group. Honestly, I think we should do more to commemorate other players as well. We've set the precedent of honoring Colt players with the Unitas status and certainly more than just Unitas had noteworthy football careers in Baltimore.

I know we have the "Sports Legends" commemoration of the Colts, but it would be nice to have something at the stadium for those who perhaps come to Baltimore for a game, but aren't going to make a trip specifically to this museum to get a reminder of our somewhat forgotten football history.

As much as I love and appreciate what Reed did for the Ravens, I don't think he warrants a statue like Unitas and Lewis.  A smaller statue in a different area, I'm fine with.  Unitas was to the Colts, what Lewis is to the Ravens.  Even though Reed was elite/great, he doesn't mean as much to the organization and/or city as Unitas and Lewis.   Find a different way to honor Reed IMO.

Wonder why the Ravens can't make a hall inside thier stadium of the all time greats so every great Raven can be remember.

Me too. Soon it will not matter how bad the coach is the players will be so good they will not have no choice but win.

This.  I'm gonna do one better. I think a shared hall between Camden and M&T would be a great idea.  An opportunity to see; Orioles, Colts and Ravens history.

There is one. It's called Sports Legends.

Hope the cornerback curse doesnt continue into the season. Best slot corner on the market is Kyle Arrington who the Pats just released, maybe worth a try :)

Kind of what I was thinking. My original thought was adding them across from the stadium entrances (not the outside ones). Would make it easier for us drunks to find our seats  lol

So basically the Sports Legends Museum? lol

/although I will say the football annex is awkwardly placed kind of in the gift shop, and it pales in comparison to the baseball section. A better museum would be nice, but that costs $$

Reed is a nine-time Pro Bowler, a 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, a Super Bowl champion, and *THE greatest *safety to ever play the game. The “Reeeeeeeeed” chant will echo throughout the stadium forever.

fixed.

now on to other business.

No offense to Wilson, but i dont even know who he is, that doesnt mean anything for our team. I dont see it as a continuance of a curse either.

He's a rookie. Rookies have bad mechanics. Bad mechanics lead to broken legs during non contact coverage drills. It happens. This is why we practice.

Brady should be punished. Remember the comment from him to the Ravens about learning the NFL rules? I just want to see him again this post-season but I would prefere it at M&T stadium we have some unfinished buisnes.

The Browns are starting to resemble the Ravens minus Flacco. On offense and defense. Already talk of Duke Johnson being a third round steal. Who does he remind you of when he was drafted in 2008? No wonder the Browns gave the Steelers all they could handle last year. I expect that trend to continue, even with McCown at QB.
