[News] Late for Work 5/11: Would Ed Reed Like A Statue At M&T Bank Stadium?

54 posts in this topic

A statue of Ed Reed outside of M&T? Why not? Ed was being gracious by responding, "It isn't up to Him". It doesn't mean Ed would not be touched if the Ravens chose to honor him with a statue. Open the debate about who else to include? The front office can certainly figure it out. Last time I looked, there was plenty of room outside of M&T and the statues only add another point of interest and pride.

Oh, and by the way, I am glad Ed spoke up that discipline should come down on Brady for Deflategate.... while showing the infamous clip of Brady's deliberate raised leg aiming for Ed's crotch.

Reed deserves a statue! Adding a statue of Reed prior to him being being eligible for the NFL HoF would be an awesome way to honor him and thank him for his time as an active Raven player.

Funnily, it's the "easy" practices that often lead to ugly injuries. We just lost a girl in yesterday's run through of playbook. It was a push during zone coverage of passes. Except she has now a dislocated elbow and torn ligaments there, dislocated knee and torn ligaments there and a broken leg :( Was ugly.

I know I'm late noticing this and just stating the obvious, but Reed's presser showed that this man is not only a football legend, but an intellectual, wholesome man with so much social intelligence and compassion. His speech was one of the smartest and filled with best advice I have heard in a while.

"He will be honored with an induction into the Ravens Ring of Honor during halftime of the St. Louis Rams game on Nov. 20."

Check your calendar, the Rams game is Nov. 22 not 20 (I know, you had that number on your mind!)

A statue would be great. When you are one of the greatest all-time players at your position it is worthy of a statue at your stadium. No one energized a stadium more when he touched a ball. Will miss the laterals...

Who knows, even if he had stayed healthy, Wilson may not have been a viable roster option. Still, seeing a CB go down in the first days of workouts just gives one an uneasy feeling.

Wilson i hope has a speedy recovery, but having said that he was a UDFA, and there are a lot more out there, including the ones the teams will cut after their rookie mini-camps....We are going into camp with our top 4 of Smith, Webb, Melvin, and Asa, the other spots will make the team starting out as ST players, and put into the mix if any of the top 4 need a breather....

The NFL should do the honorable thing and reschedule the draft to where it used to be-- Late March, early April, to give these rookies more time to rest and less time for teams to work them out prior to the draft. The injuries will continue to pile on as they have been running drills for almost a year non-stop!

Even if the draft were pushed back to end of March beginning of April, the players would still be working out, to stay in shape for camp...With so many players drafted, and UDFA signed, your going to have those freak accidents...I think the ones who don't keep up with their training are more likely to get hurt...JMO...

I really don't know where to start but I'll make this short, YES Ed should have a statue erected in his honor, YES CryBaby Brady should be suspended for the season, It's not the first time he tried to pull a nasty trick shot, who remembers when he tried to kick Ed Reed in the groin, who remembers the many times that he was flatten while just releasing the ball and had a penalty call on the opposing teams because of his crybaby abilities. The more the critics praise him the worst he's going to get, he just keeps trying to pull the same things every game.

I would not mind Kyle Arrington playing in Purple and Black. I just wonder what type of $ would be needed to get him and how much do we have left.

I don't care for how what Ed Reed says gets twisted for the sake of drama.

He says he thinks anyone who breaks the rules should be punished. Twisting what people say to make a story sound more compelling is not journalism! It's Drama !

Look, I said it last week but it bears repeating. The argument about not having a statue for Ogden or Marchetti or Raymond Berry when talking about Ed Reed doesn't hold water for this reason. Ed Reed is a position-defining player. Ogden is ONE OF the best tackles among a plethora. Marchetti was a dominating Defensive end among Deacon Jones and Youngblood down to Reggie White and now Watt. Raymond Berry one could make an argument for because Unitas and Berry had their timing patterns down to a science while everyone else was still swinging from trees.

But the story of free safety-dom cannot be told without Ed Reed. He defines what it means to be a ball-hawk. What it means to truly "play center field." Ravens fans can be faulted for being homers, but I dare-say even if you poll fans from around the country, they'll agree that he was a once-in-a-several-lifetimes type of player.

His legacy should not be overshadowed just because he lined up behind #52.

Should be a permanent suspension. Trashing the game that way is unforgivable. Give him time to raise some of the kids he's sired.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Steelers decide to do the same for Polamalu and both Reed and Polamalu have their statues revealed on the same day or week? C'mon man! I am a die hard, but I will miss seeing Troy and his crazy butt plays.

Unitas and Lewis are franchise defining players. When you mention the Colts, the majority of fans in and out of Baltimore would cite Unitas as the player that they feel best represented the Baltimore Colts. Surely there will be those commenters who disagree but in reality we know its Unitas. Same is true for Lewis. For the Baltimore Ravens Lewis is the defining player. Was Ogden, Reed and others great players for Baltimore, absolutely, but once again, when defining the Ravens, most people would cite Lewis as that player. That is old school and that is new school. These are the two players who best represent the old and the new and there needs to be NO MORE STATUES. 2 teams, Ravens and Colts, 2 defining players, Unitas and Lewis.

I think Kyle Arrington would be a nice pickup for us. We have cap space and he was released. This is Ozzies type of signings. He actually graded out well last season as well. Would help, but not getting my hopes up.

You do make a very good point. However, I see it a bit differently. Yes, I agree that both Unitas and Lewis are the most iconic players for the Colts and the Ravens but the success of the franchises was also due to other great players who contributed to our team victories and team history. Since this is a team sport, I don't see a need to limit the statues or choose 1 player to represent the team at the exclusion of other iconic players. I think adding sculptures could be a great tribute to our Ravens history rather than detract from the accomplishments of Lewis or Unitas. The front office can determine who, what and where but I am all for honoring some other legendary players.

Maybe if we put the statue at another entrance???

I mean, the O's have the jersey numbers in one place at Camden Yards, but we have to realize there is a "qualifier"...  or you're gonna have statues everywhere around the stadium.  And I think we can, just maybe not out front there.  People can see the different players all the way around the stadium, maybe.

We requested Ray's statue be placed there from the Unitas family, I believe.  And they were honored.  Not sure we should crowd up that section of the stadium entrance....  Just my opinion.

Let us petition to get a statue for Reed and while we are at it, a statue for Jonathan Ogden as well. The 3 all time great players to be drafted by the Ravens! Ray Lewis, Ogden and Ed Reed are all equally deserving of a statue imho. One is already a first ballot HOFer, and two more are on their way!
