Unsigned Rookies?

15 posts in this topic

The CBA pretty much set salaries for all new rookies, so any idea why Perriman and Davis haven't signed/agreed to their contracts yet?  Did I miss it, b/c as I understand it they're the only 2 drafted rookies who haven't signed.

Yeah I just asked in another thread if it's normal for first rounders to take a few weeks to sign? I'm assuming it is, I can't remember how long it took our past first rounders.

It is still normal for 1st round picks to not sign right away.  There is still some negotiation that goes on with things like offset language.  Usually, teams try to wait to see what surrounding picks do.  One player's contract can set the market for the others in terms of offset language.

Just surprised with no deal on the table, he risked injury by participating in the rookie camp this past weekend.

I don't know why Perriman isn't signed yet either. I was wondering the same thing. I don't get what holds up these negotiations but it's gotta be something.

Never mind, he signed this afternoon. Must have read this post.

Lol there we have it. It's nice to have him signed. I love the rookie scale.

Honestly with the rookie scale, I don't understand why most rookies hire agents. They really don't need an agent until it's time to negotiate their 2nd contract.

I feel the same way. It makes little sense to me, at least right off the bat. I can understand if you hire an agent in your third year, but before that makes no sense. Maybe they want the advice pertaining to what they need to do to start getting ready for that second deal. That would make sense to me.
