[News] Byrne Identity: Ed Reed, Dennis Pitta And The Best-Ever Ravens

34 posts in this topic

Heres hoping Pitta can get back to cutting, turning, twisting, jumping, taking hits, etc. May he never have another hip related injury in his life. Having two of those might scare most people away from the game but he obviously has a passion.

Great to see Ed in our building yesterday. It's a reminder that the days of old are no longer upon us, and that they were great days... More great days are coming, for sure. It just feels different now.

Where was Joe during Ed reed's conference?

Working his receivers like everyone wanted him too. Give the guy a break please.

The coaches know good and well where Pitta stands physically at this point of his rehab, they just aren't going to talk about it much....He has spending most of the off-season rehabbing at the facility...It's really going to come down is if he can take a hit, because if he can run the hip itself is in good shape, seeing that is where the most movement is when you run....

Webb should not be mention in the paragraph as Ed Reed. Webb would have to play 35 years to equal Ed's interception total.

That guy McCrary played the game like his life depended on. I've seen him play on my dvd and I thought he played harder than anyone on the field. He even broke his hand or finger or something his whole hand was in a cast.

With his family, perhaps? Why does this matter?

Anyone know what the coaches are allowed to do at rookie mini camp??? The restrictions these days are ridiculous....

Huh... I know Ed has called Joe out before, but that was to challenge him and the Offense. I would imagine, given both of their personalities, they get along great, and surely the respect for each other is there.  Kinda like T-Sizzle and Joe... they get on each other and talk trash in practice, but how many times have we seen Sizzle stand up for Joe in the media?

I think it's a legit reason to be proud that kickers (place kickers and punters) are recognized and respected this much in this organization and fan base. I don't think there would be too many more franchises where such a top-20 player voting would send 3 kickers in the top 20...

After all, they are the ones who put the foot in football, right? ;)

I think it would be tremendous if Pitta could come back and contribute. It would deepen out pool of targets for Flacco, give him back his favorite and most trusted target - and I'm more than sure our young TE's would also benefit greatly. TE is a position where even the best college players tend to need a season or two to get into the position where they can rally do what they are capable of. Just look at Ebron. He had a "disappointing" rookie season - although his coaches keep saying he'll be just fine, he just needs time. Pitta and Heap weren't what they then would become, right away in season 1. If Maxx Williams can spend a season behind Pitta, it would be to the benefit of him and the Ravens as well.

Obviously, nobody knows if Pitta can hold up through an entire season, but if he decides he wants to try, I think there's a reasonable chance that he's our starting TE in Denver.

Matt Elam needs Ed Reed in the worst way. What Ed did for Webby, the Ravens need to compensate Ed in some fashion to spend time with Matt and teach him how to do it. I watched the press conference and he talked about watching film even in the off season. He said you have to do it to be successful. Elam spent the summer working in a shoe store practicing being a shoe store owner and not a safety. Best way to be a shoe store salesman instead of a safety is to spend you time practicing selling shoes. If Elam does not improve, I hope he learned a lot last summer because he'll be stocking shoes on shelves next year. Ed needs to teach the cocky Elam how a professional does it because Elam clearly does not know.

I think Maxx Williams needs to be the #1 TE and Pitta needs to fill in where he can and hopefully he can last another couple years.

If I remember right he wasn't hit on the play when his hip went out last year.  But that doesn't mean it wasn't damaged on a previous play.

Well in Stover's case back in 2000 when we stopped scoring, it was the foot of Stover that was winning us games.  Hail forever.

If Pitta stay healthy since day 1, he should be all time receiving TE; it is the matter of getting healthy. I hope his recovery speeds up and finger crossed for his returns....

I am having a Field of Dreams moment, envisioning the all time top 11 offensive and the all time top 11 defensive players on the field for the Ravens with more Ravens superstars filling out the roster, what a sight that would be.

Hearing about Pitta doing better made me happy, but I really don't want to get my hopes up.

I'm praying for him first in whatever his path takes him. If that is to play for the Ravens, so be it.... But it sure is great to hear him excited to be doing something he truly loves. As for Ed? Miss you man!

I'm sure it's unintentional but there is something being overshadowed here. After leaving for whatever reason (usually contractual), these players that ask to sign a one day contract just so they can retire as a RAVEN speaks volumes for the organization as a whole. From Steve Bisciotti to the ball boy, this organization is phenomenal. Webster's Dictionary should place a RAVENS logo next to the definition of TEAM. This is what separates us from the rest of the league. Having had the pleasure of dealing with the inner office operations (in a small but memorable way), I learned first hand just how great this organization truly is and why these guys want to hang their jersey up for the last time as a RAVEN !!!!
