Get La'el Collins

That would be awesome, but I fully expect him to land on the Dolphins.  Reason is no team can offer much more in the way of a signing bonus that is significant due to the rookie salary cap.  I think he ends up on the Fins because of all the LSU players that are on that team that played for him and went down to New Orleans this week to talk to him.

Well... was there anybody who thought there would be no more additions? Ozzie's prime hunting season is still months away... When good players stert to get cut because of roster and cap limit considerations - that's when he's at his best.

La'el Collins wants to go somewhere that he can play Tackle.....so that he can recoup the money he lost by not being Drafted. He knows that Tackles are the Highest Paid Players on the O-Line ! I don't think the Dolphins want him at Tackle.

Get La'el Collins

That would be a miracle on par with the Mile High Miracle IMHO. I'm more than sure at least half of the NFL is gonna try to recruit him, with a lot more cap space than us (since he's a rookie free agent, I believe the contract restriction for the drafted players don't apply for him?). Also, the offensive line is not a real need position for us now.

But it would be nice to get him...

Bring in Alonzo dennard to compete for slot/nickel corner

Any info on why he was cut? He seems like at least a decent depth player, plus the Pats have lost both starting CB's...

I believe he can get a decent contract, because he is a free agent - so, if there's demand, his agent can whip up the price considerably?

Still, what you say makes a ton of sense. And I don't think we would want him at tackle, either... Right now he would be almost certainly no more than depth - and I believe he can go somewhere else where he has a much better chance of getting to sart Week#1.

Pretty sure un-drafted rookies' salaries are locked at about $1.5 million total over the course of three years... My understanding is that money is not a factor.  He will get paid the same regardless of where he plays, the only question is where he wants to play.

Ozzie go a sign Alfonso Dennard for depth maybe even start with Webb & Jimmy. Then Ozzie should try to extend Marshal Yanda so we only have to worry about K.O. and Tucker next season.

Dennard's just been claimed by the Cardinals, so he's off the market.

Aha. I've misunderstood it then... Thanks for clearing that up!

This team is too scary. Too much talent everywhere we won't be able to put everybody in the 53 man squad. Hope to put them in the practice squad. Ozzie is creating and dangerous team.

He can only make so much from being an Undrafted Free Agent......whereas had he gone in the 1st or 2nd Round? He'd received a longer and higher earnings contract. He can sign a 3 year contract as a UDFA.

He may or may not receive a decent Signing Bonus......that all depends.

He'd have gotten a pretty good sized one being selected in the top 20. It's really decent money, but he will have to make that switch to recoup what he thinks he lost.

Thinks is the word .....because I believe his lowest pay scale would be pretty decent.

~ Every undrafted rookie is locked into signing a three year contract. The three year contract will contain the minimum Paragraph 5 salary in each year, which will equal payouts of $435,000 in 2015, $525,000 in 2016, and $615,000 in 2017. These are the same numbers as rookies drafted after the 3rd round and many of the players drafted in the third round, so it is not a major loss for Collins of any player who was not projected to be a 2nd round pick.

The UDFA’s are very limited in terms of signing bonus money. I don’t have the final number in front of me but IIRC each team can spend, in total, about $88,000 on all their undrafted rookies. That usually means a large number of players receiving signing bonuses that will not exceed $8,000. So that is a limiting factor for a player who is not drafted. The smallest signing bonus a 7th round pick will receive likely to be about $52,000. So that is a pretty big loss considering for many players the bonus is the only salary they will ever receive.

So that isn't that awful.....but he still could have made a higher pay scale, by being Drafted as a 1st Rounder.

That Tray Walker pick was a bit of a stretch, the only reach pick I think. All of the draft prospect websites and experts had Walker as a 6th round to priority free agent pick....so, yeah, the Ravens need a solid veteran 3rd DB on the roster.

Yeah, I got that wrong.

Thanks for the info!

While I'm not disagreeing with any of what you said, I do believe Tray Walker is a stronger player than the "project" you seem to be suggesting he is!

I believe ANY player can come in and, "hit the ground, running" figuratively and literally! That's to say we've seen guys have problems getting up to NFL speed, learning assignments and grasping schemes!

Then, we also have to believe some guys can come in an feel right at home -- can get it right from the jump!!!

Let's hope Tray's one of those!

When we draft guys like a Tray Walker you have to really trust the scouting department, they obviously felt he had more upside than a UDFA in OKL.Cornerback Julian Wilson who has big school experience, or a Nick Perry from Bama....These guys have seen so many players come through our organization over the years, and do have a good feel of what they are looking for in a player...Although i love the upside in Wilson,  i really like that we are going big with our potential picks at CB....Enough of 5-9 DB's, having 6-2 CB's now in J.Smith, and Melvin will pay dividends when they are both on the field, and throw in Webb, who is a sure tackler brings a bright outlook for this season IMO.....

I think this kid is a quick Project. He's got the attributes, he needs some instruction . He's got great size for a CB.

I think he shows up......and gets to stay.

draft websites or Ozzie and the Ravens scouting department who spend time with these players and see them up close...who are you going to trust?

i like the tray walker pick. i agree that he will find his niche quickly and possibly be a contributer in the 2nd half of the season. i also like the big cb we picked up in the undrafted pool. keep an eye on him

I have imaginings of Webby and Jimmy staying healthy, being our main two guys, with Tray coming in to play press coverage on three receiver sets allowing Webby to work the slot. Maybe I have a fanciful imagination but I'd love to see this.

Also watched La'el Collins slide and slide and then just not get drafted, made me wonder if there were character issues we aren't aware of or something? According to nfl.com he was slated to visit with us late March? Don't know what's going on with this guy. He looks pretty good though, wouldn't mind seeing him in purple and black.

La'el Collins would be awesome, but he is not going to choose us. He wants to go to a place where he can start and make a name for himself. We have depth on the O-line, and if James Hurst can improve this year, we will have a solid option if Monroe or Wagner go down again.

This is the time of the year when things get interesting. It's always awesome to see who Ozzie is able to bring in.

nobody wants to touch him until he is completely cleared. They have stated he's not a suspect but that's still kind of up in the air. Teams just want to be sure after the whole Aaron Hernandez thing. I would love for us to sign him if everything checks out.
