TIme for everybody to make their annual big deal out of a small number of drops.

8 out of 58 balls? seriously?

Who's really gonna complain if Breshad only drops 8 balls the entire season? As long as none of them are game winners, who cares?! that would hardly make him a bust.

Agreed.  Anyway, good catching technique can be taught.  Speed and height cannot be taught.

So many of the Ravens' Nest loves to see Joe's long-g-g bomb float down for a huge gain or TD! Nothing wrong with that!

I gues I'm more a purist as I love line play and hits around the LOS! My particulars go more toward seeing an enemy WR, RB or QB mashed by our Line or LB beef,... :190048:

That statement about "quietly building a young group" of :baltimore-ravens:   on defense puts me in the mind of Wildebeest or Cape Buffalo cornering a hyena!

I get all tingly at the thought! :lol3:

I've posted this before, but just to give people a comparison of Perriman's 13.8% drop rate (of which no drops occurred in the 2nd half of his last season), the list of big name players who've posted a 13 percent drop rate or higher at some point since PFF started charting is pretty star-studded. It includes Torrey Smith, Kelvin Benjamin, Martavis Bryant, Vincent Jackson, T.Y. Hilton, Jordy Nelson, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Wes Welker, Dwayne Bowe, Terrell Owens, Marques Colston, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, and Roddy White. I don't think anyone is calling any of these pros "busts" because of it.

Perriman already has good catching technique. The tape shows he catches the ball with his hands, away from his body, he goes up and makes contested catches, and even his scouting report says he "makes difficult catches look easy." His drops were because of a lack of focus, not technique or bad hands, and he already has started to clean that up. The people who are concerned about his drops are the people who are fixated on numbers(14% drop rate), but when you look into it further, as the Ravens have, it doesn't seem to be a big issue.

All that said, even if he did continue to drop an easy one every now and then, as long as he made big plays, especially in big moments, which he had a knack for doing in college, he would still be a huge asset to the team, and far from a bust.

I guess if perriman was taken later it probably wouldn't be that big of an issue to note. Howver stop bashing torrey when your covered by the corner and saftey behind u and u expect this man who has fought plenty of times in Ne even his rookie season you expect what if he did have enough to room to jump then what the ball go off his hands and then its picked regardless or perhaps he luckily catches it then gets injured and he can't finish u have to consider all options before being blind sighted by things consider if you were running at full speed being squeezed could you really do anything because fyi there was an open kamar aiken on a shorter route no defenders easy touch down

Joe also threw 4tds and increased our lead by 2 tds twice. the throw he made is a jump ball situation to what everybody called our #1 wr last season. If Torrey was a true #1 he would have tried to do something with the ball regardless if he didn't catch it. He completely slowed downed at the end of the route and let it get intercepted. And I guarantee that play was meant for Torrey from the very start of the play. He was probably told just throw it up and give Torrey a chance. I think it more sensible to criticize the placement of the throw than to criticize who he threw it too.

Great research! Truly puts this drop rate concern into perspective. I'm thrilled with Perriman as a Raven. Ravens first 3 picks are on a mission and highly motivated. Perriman due to the no hands label; Davis due to falling to third round; and Maxx feeling he should be starter out of the gate. Can't wait to see how these guys perform. Then there is LB Z. Smith and RB Allen, both could surprise everyone.

If Perriman drops one out of every eight passes and Joe always passes to him for at least a ten yard attempt then by always passing to P the chances of failing to get a first down over a series of three plays is one in 512. Do the math. This means that by passing to P for at least a ten yard attempt every time we will essentially score a touchdown on every single drive. Wishful thinking, I know. But the math is right. Ask Urschel.

Media trolls will try to get into Perriman's head with this ball drop garbage....had the Steelers drafted him the same media guys would be calling him the next Dez Bryant. I hope he doesn't drink any of this coolaid. He will be just fine. GO RAVENS!

Just thinking about how sweet it will be when all the GMs that passed on him see just how good of a physical specimen he is. He goes up and catches deep balls consistently. Guess who didn't? Torrey Smith. SSS and Maxx Williams are going to play all over the middle of the field when the safeties are dropped back deep trying to cover Mr. 4.24! Marc Trestman has every tool in the toolbox. As it stands right now, there are no holes in the starting roster. Our challenges this year will be responding to injuries (per usual) and coping with over 20,000 miles of travel. No off-field distractions this time (knock on wood). GO RAVENS!!!

Maybe Perriman made some drops because they were putting too much air in the football. It wouldn't have happened if Bellichek was coach.

Obviously Perriman has some negatives. With his size and speed, if he had never had a drop or lost focus, he would have gone in the top 5. We need to be thankful we got a guy with great physical tools and with negatives that can (hopefully) be coached out of him. If he develops, he will be a solid #1 for 10 years. Our receivers going forward will be Perriman, Marlon Brown, and Kemar Aiken.

In a movie called "Coming To America" James Earl Jones plays a king who is preceded everywhere by three gorgeous women tossing rose petals in his path, so that his feet never touch anything else. It is time Steve Bisciotti provided rose petal throwers for Ozzie, at least during the draft.

One of the things that makes the raven front office so good is their ability to see through the smoke screens and bad information. Perfect case in point is Perriman. Will he live up to his potential? No one knows for sure but that is true for every player. I like his odds and I'm glad the Ravens do as well. For me, his NFL pedigree is a very important predictor. You can't teach speed and this kid has it in spades. Watching some of his circus catches and clutch catches in college says he has great hands and is a prime time player. Having a QB like Flacco will get the most out of him and in my opinion he could become the greatest WR in Raven history.

Our receivers group looks like this:

Campanaro makes it because of the need for him on special teams

Steve Smith and Perriman are locks.

That leaves Marlon, Kamar, Jeremy Butler and Waller.

If we only keep 6 then one of the final 4 goes to IR or practice squad.

This is a lot cleaner than it was last year. At 6'6 and 240 lbs. Waller could be the surprise of the draft. He runs a 4.4 and is very athletic. Reports on him say he competes for every ball and that back shoulder throws to him were nearly indefensible. This looks and sounds a lot like a faster version of Anquan Boldin. He had some discipline problems at Geo. Tech (several 1 and 2 game suspensions) which are undefined at this point. He also had low stats, prmarily because Geo Tech is an option team. But I saw him against Fla. State in the conference Championship game and he was nearly unstoppable. Reports predicted he could become a "TD machine" in the NFL and I saw exactly what they were talking about. He is a beast. I will watch his development with the Ravens as I beleive he could go to the head of the class and start with Smith and Perriman.

Putting Waller 6'6", Brown 6'5", Williams 6'7" on the field together with Perriman and Smith might be more than any NFL secondary could handle. This could be one of the greatest Raven offenses ever to take the field. Can't wait til September.
