Merged: Early Depth Chart Predictions?

52 posts in this topic

Actually, we usually only carry 6-7 dlinemen. Last year we carried seven healthy guys. In 2013 we only carried six, like I have above. In our Super Bowl year, we carried seven linemen, one of them being Bryan Hall, and another being Ngata who missed a few games. There have been stretches where we only had five active linemen on the roster. So no, I'm not way off.

6 without Ngata after 10 years is likely low (way low is too strong, I admit). I think they'll need more reassurance for D line. I've got 9, which might be over the top but 8 sounds realistic to me.

*Edit: actually, I forgot I cut KLM for one spot in secondary. So I have 8, which, according to myself, is very realistic and I win this argument :P

That's fair. I'll negotiate for seven and keep Canty for a year, cutting Trawick.

I think I saw someone mention that Bobby Engram was talking about Perriman being the "X" from day one, which would make him the number one receiver right off the bat.

I noticed this to.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 6 or 7 defensive lineman because Suggs, Uphsaw, Smith, and Dumervil are all very capable of dropping onto the line, and Upshaw and Smith can play DT in sub packages, so the need for defensive lineman is really for the base packages.

I honestly think it is too early to do this. I think we wait till training camp begins and see if we add any free agent cuts before doing this. I think it will be a little more accurate then. But, with the players we currently have it could be any list put forth by our esteemed friends on the forum...

My 53 man roster as of the draft.

2 - QB - Flacco, Schaub

1 - FB - Juszczyk

3 - RB - Forsett, Taliaferro, Allen

6 - WR - Smith, Perriman, Aiken, Brown, Campanaro, Waller

3 - TE - Williams, Gilmore, Boyle

8 - OL - Monroe, Yanda, Zuttah, KO, Wagner, Urschel, Hurst, Myers

8 - DL - Williams, Jernigan, Canty, Davis, Urban, Lewis-Moore, Tyson, Guy

4 - OLB - Suggs, Dumervil, Upshaw, Smith

4 - ILB - Smith, Mosley, McClellan, Orr

6 - CB - Smith, Webb, Jackson, Walker, Melvin, Levine

2 - FS - Hill, Brooks

2 - SS - Lewis, Elam

3 - ST - Koch, Tucker, Cox

1 - X - Brown, Jacobs, Traywick, or Bilukidi

Prac Squad - Wenning, Toussaint, Jacobs, Traywick, Jenson, Butler, Supernaw

The 1 extra spot could go to anyone of those guys. We could carry 9 OL, Jenson or Reid would be added. Guy and Bilukidi will battle for the last DL spot. The last CB spot could go to either Levine or Jacobs. Of course, injuries will change everything. What do you think?

Something tells me that KLM will be a boom or bust player this year. I think this is a make or break for him. I think he'll either do well enough that he's talked about as a starter or the Ravens cut him and move on or put him on the PS.

Agreed. If it wasn't for his potential he'd probably already be gone. I've always expected big things from him, but I think he has to be really impressive this year to earn the chance to stick around.

It is very early but this is how I see the 53 man roster and practice squad turning out

QB: Flacco, Schaub (2)

RB: Forsett, Taliaferro, Allen (3)

FB: Juice (1)

WR1: Smith Sr., Brown, Waller (3)

WR2: Perriman, Aiken, Campanaro (3)

TE: Pitta, Gilmore, Williams, Boyle (4)

OT: Monrone, Wagner, Hurst (3)

OG/OC: Osemele, Yanda, Zuttah, Urschel, Myers (5)

ST: Tucker, Koch, Cox (3)

DT: Jernigan, Davis, Lewis-Moore (3)

NT: Williams, Guy (2)

DE: Canty, Urban (2)

OLB: Suggs, Smith, Dumervil, Upshaw (4)

ILB: Smith, Mosley, Brown, McClellan (4)

CB: Smith, Webb, Jackson, Melvin, Walker, FA (camp cut or trade) (6)

FS: Lewis, Miles, Perry (3)

SS: Hill, Elam (2)

Practice Squad (10 Players)

QB: Keith Wenning (1)

RB: Terrence Magee (1)

WR: Deandre Carter, Jeremy Butler (2)

OL: Darryl Baldwin, Nick Easton (2)

DL: Casey Walker (1)

LB: Steven Means, Zak Orr (2)

DB: Julian Wilson (1)

Terrence Brooks will start the year on the PUP list, so when he comes back I could see Perry getting put on the practice squad. I still believe we will re-sign Jeremy Miles at safety.  If Pitta decides not to play then I could see Deandre Carter or Terrence Magee getting a shot at the roster as a backup and maybe the new kick returner/punt returner.  I also believe at some point we will add a corner via free agent during camp cuts or a trade.  I am excited to see this Raven's team in action and cannot wait until the start of camp!

I might try a stab at this later, but something to consider when you all are making your depth charts is that Ozzie and Harbaugh hinted at a reduced role for Steve Smith Sr. this season and with the arrival of Maxx Williams and Breshad Perriman, that's probably going to be even more true. Add in the fact that Trestman really seems to value the mismatches of big players and Steve could be in for career lows, or at least far less impactful numbers this season.

I see Steve playing the role of more of a third down specialist this year - don't see him still being the #1. Not saying that he's not gonna make a big impact , because he's still gonna be taking these dudes lunch money.

My best guess today would be:

PUP: Terrance Brooks & Dennis Pitta

Offense (23)

QB: Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub

RB: Justin Forsett, Buck Allen, Lorenzo Taliaferro

WR: Steve Smith Sr., Breshad Perriman, Kamar Aiken, Michael Campanaro, Marlon Brown, Darren Waller

FB: Juice

TE: Crocket Gillmore, Maxx Williams, Nick Boyle

LT: Eugene Monroe,

LG: Kelechi Osemele,

C: Jeremy Zuttah,

RG: Marshal Yanda,

RT: Rick Wagner,

OL: James Hurst, John Urschel, Robert Myers

Defense (27)

DT: Timmy Jernigan, Lawrence Guy

NT: Brandon Williams, Carl Davis, DeAngelo Tyson

DE: Chris Canty, Brent Urban, Kapron Lewis-Moore

Edge: Terrell Suggs, Za'darius Smith

ILB: CJ Mosley, Albert Mcllelan, Arthur Brown

ILB: Daryl Smith, Zach Orr

Edge: Courtney Upshaw, Elvis Dumervil

CB: Jimmy Smith, Ladarius Webb, Rashaan Melvin, Tray Walker, Asa Jackson

SS: Will Hill, Matt Elam

FS: Kendrick Lewis, Anthony Levine, Brynden Trawick

Special Teams (3)

LS: Morgan Cox

P: Sam Koch

K: Justin Tucker

When Brooks is back and healthy I would say one of the DL drops out (Tyson or KLM) or Waller if he is not contributing on ST

agree fully on this. I have been so excited for him every year but I don't think he has hit the field for three years now...for sure make it or break it year with the depth we have on the DL.

On a side anyone know how Wagner is recovering--I remember there being speculation he may not be ready for the season opener at one point. I am guessing that is why we signed Jah Reid...

KLM has been on the team 2 years, not 3, but I agree with your feelings on him.   I've been excited for him to play also but he's just too injury prone.  It's not even small injuries, all serious leg injuries.  If he doesn't play this year he's done as a Raven.

Haven't heard anything on Wagner.  It would hurt to not have him but at least Hurst should be better than he was last year.  Or they could kick Yanda out again and put Urschel inside until Rick returns

Just counting the injury he had at ND...even though I think it was at the end of the year or last game. I hope him the best as I was so excited we drafted him.

Ya it would suck not to have Wagner early on...I think we would put Yanda at T and Urschel inside and put the best five linemen out there.

Seeing a pretty decent divide as to whether Allen or Taliaferro will be #2 RB. LT was one of the better rookie backs last year, and he did provide a great change of pace to Forsett. I think LT will be #2 and Allen sits behind until he really breaks open
