Merged: Early Depth Chart Predictions?

52 posts in this topic

How do you think the offensive and defensive depth charts are going to look for week 1 against the Broncos? I know it's still really early but we know who we drafted and I am just curious on what other Raven fans are thinking at this point....

Alright I'll play...

My guess as of now...

QB: Flacco, Schaub
RB: Forsett, Taliaferro, R Allen
FB: Juszczyk
WR: Smith, R Perriman, Campanaro
WR: Aiken, Brown, R Waller
TE: R Williams, Gillmore, R Boyle, Pitta (fingers crossed)
LT: Monroe, Hurst
LG: Osemele, Urschel
C: Zuttah, Jensen
RG: Yanda, R Myers
RT: Wagner, UDFA Baldwin

DT: Jernigan, Guy
NT: Williams, R Davis
DE: Canty, Tyson, Urban, Lewis-Moore
OLB: Suggs, R Z Smith
ILB: Mosley, Brown
ILB: Smith, McClellan
OLB: Dumervil, Upshaw
CB: Smith, Melvin, R Walker
CB: Webb, Jackson, Levine, UDFA Wilson ** I think a veteran free agent will be here eventually
FS: Lewis, UDFA Perry
SS: Hill, Elam

K: Tucker
P: Koch
LS: Cox

This lineup is FREAKIN stacked. I forgot about the Kendrick Lewis signing so we are deep in every position. I went light on LBs and heavy on corners. A spot opens up as well if Pitta can't go. I see possibly 3 UDFAs making the team in the OT Baldwin, the FS Perry, and the DB Wilson (this changes if we bring in more vets). This roster is looking very, very good.

I might try a stab at this later, but something to consider when you all are making your depth charts is that Ozzie and Harbaugh hinted at a reduced role for Steve Smith Sr. this season and with the arrival of Maxx Williams and Breshad Perriman, that's probably going to be even more true. Add in the fact that Trestman really seems to value the mismatches of big players and Steve could be in for career lows, or at least far less impactful numbers this season.

He's going to the slot where he can really do damage

I just don't see Steve Smith being the one anymore or having nearly the same production.

If Perriman is as good as we the Ravens think he is, and with Marlon and Aiken/ Maxx then Steve doesn't have to be the man like he was last year.

It'll keep him fresh, remember how he started last year? I think we relied on him too much towards the end, mostly due to injuries to Pitta and Camp.

A fresh Steve as our slot guy? Oh yea

I think I saw someone mention that Bobby Engram was talking about Perriman being the "X" from day one, which would make him the number one receiver right off the bat.

I was too before I actually thought about it in more detail.

There's no reason really. Dline starters are very good and the depth is great. Suggs and Doom are a year older but looks like they'll have more than decent help again in Smith and clever schemes. Healthy, knock wood, secondary will give them more time, too. And after all that, there's CJ Mosley.

Teams will wish they have 2 weeks to game-plan for us on both sides.

QB - Joe Flacco, Matt Schaub (2)

HB - Justin Forsett, Javorious Allen, Lorenzo Taliaferro (3)

FB - Kyle Juszczyk (1)

WR - Steve Smith, Breshad Perriman, Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken, Marlon Brown, Darren Waller (6)

TE - Dennis Pitta, Maxx Williams, Crockett Gillmore, Nick Boyle (4)

LT - Eugene Monroe, James Hurst (2)

LG - Kelechi Osemele, Robert Myers (2)

C - Jeremy Zuttah, John Urschel (2)

RG - Marshal Yanda (1)

RT - Rick Wagner, Jah Reid (2)

Defense: 25

LE - Tim Jernigan, Brent Urban (2)

NT - Brandon Williams, Christo Bilukidi (2)

LOLB - Elvis Dumervil, Courtney Upshaw (2)

MLB - CJ Mosley, Daryl Smith, Arthur Brown, Albert McClellan (4)

ROLB - Terrell Suggs, Za'Darius Smith (2)

CB - Jimmy Smith, Lardarius Webb, Asa Jackson, Rashaan Melvin,  Trey Walker (5)

FS - Kendrick Lewis, Anthony Levine, Nick Perry, (3)

SS - Will Hill, Matt Elam (2)

*Terrence Brooks is on PUP. Perry goes to PS when Brooks comes back. DeAngelo Tyson, in a contract year, gets traded to a DL needy team for a low pick or camp body. Kapron Lewis-Moore has been hurt too much, is rusty, and will be cut.

Special Teams: 3

You lost me. What does this post have to do with who makes the 53?

Just for depth chart purposes because I thought some people were talking about Steve Smith's production. May have been another thread.

our secondary stills looks weak. the chances of jimmy smith and lardarius webb playing an entire year (including post season) is next to none, and none of our backups look promising. kendrick lewis and the health of jimmy smith will make or break our secondary this upcoming season

You are way too low on DL numbers

Actually, we usually only carry 6-7 dlinemen. Last year we carried seven healthy guys. In 2013 we only carried six, like I have above. In our Super Bowl year, we carried seven linemen, one of them being Bryan Hall, and another being Ngata who missed a few games. There have been stretches where we only had five active linemen on the roster. So no, I'm not way off.
