Best and worst drafts (other teams)

22 posts in this topic

My opinion, best drafts :

Kansas City: seemed like they kept taking Ravens guys every round. 2 favorite Dbs in peters and Nelson. Nice value with morse, Conley, Wilson and Roches. Really well played all around.

New England: really smart draft by them. It seems like they are rebuilding their team like the Ravens this offseason. They got steals up front on both sides throughout. Malcolm brown, trey Flowers, Tre Jackson, Shaq Mason.

The worst:

Carolina Panthers: only 5 picks and I didn't like a single one. Shaq Thompson player without a position in the first? Funchess, Daryl Williams, David mayo and artis-Payne. I see all busts or jags.

New York Giants: Flowers is a prospect I don't see a lot in and certainly shouldn't have been taken so high. Then a huge move up for Collins who I think is just a box guy. Uncharacteristicly poor draft for the Giants. Of course OO in the third was a pick I like it doesn't make up for the first and second round blunders.

Best:

Falcons

I like Beasley a lot and I think Quinn will do wonders with jaelen Collins, also tevin Coleman is a perfect fit for shannys ZBS

Jaguars

They had a good draft on both side of the ball, added an elite pass rusher to add to an already good line, added a strong run blocking guard in Cann and had 3 really good value picks getting Bennett Greene and Koyack where they did.

Texans

There defense looks scary on paper, they also got tremendous value with strong in the 3rd

Worst:

Buccaneers

I'm not a huge fan of Winston and a 2nd round pick on a division 3 player just doesn't seem smart to me

Colts

They get destroyed by the pats on the ground 2 years in a row and where do they go in the first round? Wide receiver I don't get that one at all.

I agree with all four of your choices as well. I think the Colts are in big trouble this year. Everything is on Luck with no line in front of him and no substantial defensive improvements with everyone in their division improving up front. They are falling way back in the division and the conference.

I liked Atl though I believe they should had taken Maxx Williams instead of Jalen Collins  B) . Liked the Lions first 3 round picks. Jax had a really solid draft. There first 6 selections of Fowler, Yeldon, Cann, Sample, Greene, and Bennett will contribute this year. Minnesota also had a great draft. Kendricks and Clemmings are steal at their selections. Really liked the Jets picks of Williams and Smith. I think Mauldin and Harrison can be solid role players too.

I disliked the Bills draft. After the Darby pick the rest were meh. Agree that Carolina had a bad draft. Avoid drafting a O-lineman until the 4th.  Reached for Shaq and traded too much to move up for Funchess. Dallas had a really bad draft too. I'm not sold on Byron Jones, he really wasn't targeted until his workout and combine. Gregory besides his off-field issues I don't know how he will fit into the 4-3 if he can't get his weight up. After that the rest of the players are meh. IND should have focused more on their defense earlier instead of picking Dorsett. I'm not sold on the New Orleans draft. I would had picked Kendricks instead of Anthony in the 1st. Kikaha is a big ? because of his durability and I don't believe any QB after the big 2 were worth drafting until the later rounds. Besides the Owa pick, the rest of the Giants picks were meh. SF had imo the worst draft. Armstead is a project and Tartt is not a 2nd rounder imo. No idea why they drafted a punter as well.

I feel like the Colts had one of the worst drafts - it's like "new GM, same old tricks".  They tried to build a championship team around Peyton Manning's arm and a defense that's only capable of playing well when the offense scores points.  They got a receiver then spent the next 3 picks on pass defense.  They waited until the 5th and 6th rounds to get any kind of help against the run when they allowed 113 yards per game last year.

I thought Jacksonville did a nice job - they know they have to build a team around Bortles to compete with the Colts for the AFC South.  They picked up Fowler to hep get after opposing QBs, a RB and guard to strengthen the run game to complement Bortles, and my favorite receiver in the draft in Rashad Greene who I think could develop into a good complementary piece with the guys they have there already.

I agree, I really don't understand that rationale at all. You sign a guy like Andre Johnson to pair w/ Hilton so you don't have to take a 1st round WR. The Colts will have to compete against the big boys who run the ball in the playoffs, and they definitely didn't improve their chances.

I agree, I really don't get want their gm was thinking even if Dorset was BPA to them, you can't have all these skill position players see the field, as it is they already have TY, AJ and moncrief and 2 good tight ends plus duron carter, yet their o -line continues to suffer, it's just baffling to me.

I completely agree.  The Colts needed to shore up their run defense and the best player available at this point would have been Malcom Brown.  They certainly didn't need a WR, even if it was Dorsett.

Dallas

They had a good first couple picks, with Byron Jones and Randy Gregory, but Gregory is a huge risk.  However if he pans out he will be the steal of the draft.  That being said, they needed to find a back that could handle the workload that Demarco Murray had last season.  He had 400 carries last season and McFadden will not be able to handle that.  I can't believer they didn't even look into a back in the middle rounds.

Love the Falcons, Vikings & Bengals drafts... Redskins even had a good one. Don't like TB or TEN

The Panthers are an easy one. Funchess is too small to be a TE and too slow to be a WR, there were better TEs on the board, there were better WRs on the board and they already had Benjamin. AND they traded up for him. I haven't laughed so much at a pick since the Steelers took Shazier over Mosley. Aside from how spectacularly bad that pick was, I don't think any of their picks filled a need or went BPA.

Same story with the Colts. I agree with the person who said they could be in for a testing season - especially with what the Jags and Texans have done for their defence.

Cam Newton is probably crying

Deadset. To imagine his reaction to their draft, I just imagine Joe's reaction to ours and go with the opposite.

I think number of teams have drafted really well this year: Jacksonville, Houston, Browns, Falcons, Bengals, Minnesota, Ravens, Jets. Will give an edge to Jaguars.

By far the worst were Colts and Panthers drafts. Just awful.

Seattle, as per usual, no idea whether it's good or bad.

I was 50/50 on TB.  They needed a QB, and from a talent and readiness perspective Winston fits the bill.  And he really is a smart guy, according to a couple of people I know who go to FSU.  He's also immature and a knucklehead.  Hopefully they get that ironed out of him.  Smith and Marpet were reaches from a readiness perspective IMO, but they have great talent, and I liked Kenny Bell.  I think some of their picks like Clay were head scratchers, and they probably took several players a round earlier than they needed to, but if their plan was to grab a QB and then draft guys to protect him they did that.  I do think they went way overboard on the offensive side of the ball - they had 2 receivers in Evans and VJax already, so to take 2 more when they had some defensive needs to fill was overkill, but I'm not sure their first 3 picks, from a positional perspective, should have been any different.

I just went and looked at a panthers forum and they absolutely love their draft, I'm not sure why but hey more power to them, I myself was not a fan of their draft it seems now they have 2 big receivers who can't catch.

Yeah they seemed to come around to Funchess pretty quickly.

The 49ers forum went into a pretty epic meltdown though.
