KR/PR Options.

77 posts in this topic

Jacoby did a masterful job the last 3 years for us, but he's a Charger now and we've completely revamped our WR corps. Harbs Joked (I hope he was joking) putting out shiny new 1st round pick out there (again, I hope he was joking). Its a hole in this team,

The good news is we still have plenty cap space to get one. Our do we have some UDFA or meembers on our roster that can assume those roles?

Camp is probably penclied in as our PR. Who's at KR though?

Most likely Camp at both, I know Asa did some of the PR work before our DB's started going down so he might be a option. Its really Camps job to lose IMO, especially since I think 6/7 WR's might make the team.

Camp and Asa are the guys I expect to share the reigns for now.  Aldrick Robinson is also a name I'd keep an eye on as a potential kick returner.

DeAndre Carter could be the guy to fill that role. Fast, small, hard to tackle, and plays with a fearless mindset. He seems like the right type, assuming he can properly field kicked balls.

Aldrick Robinson is not an option.  Had no experience in college and couldn't do it with the Skins.  Whenever he would try during training camp he would fumble the ball.  Scratch A. Rod's name off the list of potential KR.  I'm hoping Engram can coach him up as a WR.  He's got terrific speed, but has problems running his routes to the wrong depth or his speed would get him to his spot to quick.  If he could become a better route runner, he could really be a solid WR.

Carter is a guy who could be a good punt returner with his quickness, he had a big punt return TD in college if I am not mistaken and that quickness to make the first person miss is huge. I generally like straight line type people for kickoffs though, that is where I am a bit more stumped.

Harbaugh mentioned trying Perriman there so who knows at this point.

I hope not. Aside from the hands issue (which may or may not be overblown), I think I'd get way too nervous seeing our first-round talent (and hopefully WR1 of the future) out there returning kicks. I can only imagine how it must feel for Steelers fans to see Antonio Brown doing it.

Webb!!!

Sorry, had to say that one

I'm not entirely opposed for certain punting situations, but for KR duty if it came down to him or Joe I'd probably take longer to think about it than I'd be proud of.

Campanaro showed that he could be trusted when he was on KR/PR's last season. That goes a long way w/ Harbs ... I'm not sure Camp has the big play potential, but he can hang on to the ball and be safe.

Really hoping its DeAndre Carter.. Feel like he has a good shot at it.

It will likely determine whether he makes the team or not. Even if we carry 6 WR's, which isn't guaranteed since we might carry an extra TE instead, that leaves only 1 roster spot for Waller, Carter, or the guy that got IR'd last year (I forget his name).

Jeremy Butler.

I like Camp too much as an actual WR to have him return punts, especially when he has durability concerns.

Do not like this idea at all.  Why subject your #1 draft pick to unneccessary hits?

Isn't Asa currently our #3 CB? Not to keen on him being a returner with all the teams running 3-wide nowadays. Unless Walker and Melvin step up, and Asa falls back, I'd keep him exclusively at CB.

Unless they sign someone for returns (which I so hope they do), I see Camp being the main returner for more than likely both KR/PR

don't like it either - esp with the concentration drops. But man can he fly!

For returns, is there actually a statistic to prove players get hurt at a higher rate than at any other point in the game? I know the hits can be bigger and more dangerous, but that's rarely the case, or so it seems. I just don't view it as this mega risk.

If you're talking about Perriman, for me it feels more like an unnecessary risk. And you could even argue it's the same for Campanaro with how good a possession receiver he is for us (that's more of a balancing act, but still).

camp is an excellent punt return option with his ball security, awareness, and quickness, but on kick returns im not sure about his top end speed.

touchbacks all year?

They can put me on. The price I'd settle for would free up a good chunk of cap room too. ^_^

completely agree.  We need to keep Perriman off of special teams.
