Chargers Or Steelers?

22 posts in this topic

I might be thinking too far ahead, but oh well. Assuming we beat the Titans, who would you rather play?

On a rare occasion I will root for the Steelers because I don't think traveling to the West Coast is a good idea. Plus I really want us to beat the Steelers!

Most definitely the Steelers. I think that Pittsburgh is the better team, but I don't want the guys to have to fly all the way over to California, play in the heat, and have to match up with a prolific passer.

Teams don't win 3 meetings in the same season. We know them, they know us, and the Steelers will watch us walk to glory when it COUNTS....

We can re-do 2006 (minus billick) of what was suppose to happen, with San Diego.

I fear niether, but kinda think the steelers are just sliiiiiiightly a better matchup because of the trip, and the hate we have for em......we drive on the passion. But if our defense plays like today, no one can beat us---NO ONE

The easier road is the Chargers, the more probable and satisfying would be the steelers. The other upside to the Chargers is we'd only have two put up with a handful of reasonable Steeler fans here vrs. 4,000 unreasonable ones.

I also agree we need to redeem the AFC North because Ohio dropped the ball.

i agree....and what better way to redeem the north then have the afc championship game be between two afc north teams

no one could deny that our division is the best

If we beat the #1 seed it won't matter. The momentum we will have will take us all the way to Tampa. I think San Diego wins and I think they will struggle to score on us.

I know the Ravens and Steelers have already played on prime time twice, but this is a real opportunity to showcase Hard-hitting, old school football on a truly national stage. However, I'm not sure would be sweeter than Bart Scott putting a bone crushing hit on Rivers, and show him up for the fraud that he is. He has no chance on a D like ours, which means he has no chance on a D like the Steelers either, so I'm predicting a Steelers win.

Did you misunderstand the question?

In answering the question at hand, I'll refer to what I had said after the Steelers had beaten the Ravens in their second meeting this season:
I don't care who the Ravens play in the playoffs, as long as a playoff berth is locked up, period.

With that said, I most definitely want Pittsburgh again. Even though both teams matched up well yesterday, there's still unfinished business. I'm looking at it as being sweet revenge to eliminate the Steelers from the playoffs, even if the Ravens can't bring home a Super Bowl this year.

Selfish? Probably. Short-sighted? Yes. But, it's one of those cases where the hurt of being eliminated from the playoffs would be diminished if it meant having gotten farther than the Steelers in the postseason.

After all, a division title means nothing if you can't advance in the playoffs.

But, of course, a Super Bowl win would always be sweet, no matter how it comes. ;)

I'll be happy with whatever happens from here on out.
At this point, what I said last month still stands.

Which team would I rather beat in the AFC Championship game? The Steelers.

Why? Because crushing our divisional rivals (and really our only consistent competition in the division) would be especially sweet, which is even more heightened by their sweeping us in two very close games during the regular season.

Which team would I rather face in the AFC Championship game? The Chargers.

Why? Yes Rivers was the highest rated QB in the NFL, but he played in the AFC West. The only top 10 passing defensive teams they played all season were the Bucs and the Steelers. The Steelers were able to clamp down on him and he was fortunate to play the Bucs when they were in the middle of their late season collapse that cost them their shot at the playoffs. With LT almost guaranteed to be out for the game, I have faith we can keep a clamp on Sproles (who really is a good player). Furthermore, the Chargers defense is 31st against the pass and allows over 100 ypg rushing. Pit this against our 148.5 ypg rushing (an average achieved despite facing many of the best rushing defenses in the league) and a reliable passing game with Flacco, and we could very well be a Vegas favorite to win on the road (especially with a strong showing against the Titans). That isn't going to be the case against the Steelers. It is going to be the AFC North rivalry atmosphere notched up to absurd levels. Whether you are a rabid fan or a player, the propensity for violence is ratcheted dangerously up if these two teams clash in the AFC Championship. We will not be a favorite to win this game according to oddsmakers, and frankly we don't deserve to be having already lost to them twice. While this insane atmosphere will make for a particularly delicious victory, I believe that our chances of winning are significantly greater facing the Chargers than the Steelers. And personally, if we are talking about getting to the Super Bowl, I will take any % edge I can get. Regardless, it should be a great AFC Championship game.

Though I agree in that respect, I still have to let my selfish side take over on this. Because the loss to the Steelers was the watershed moment of a very rough month personally, I NEED the Ravens to beat the Steelers. I know other Ravens fans just want to win the Super Bowl, and I understand -- but to me, for a season that began with low expectations that have since grown, my year would be virtually complete with a Steelers loss in the biggest game of their season.

A Super Bowl win at that point would just be the ultimate icing on the cake.

I think the Chargers will upset the Steelers because they are on a roll and if we are lucky enough to face them in the championship then I think we match up great against them and could beat them handily in their own home.

Oh I hear you completely and if I could guarantee that the Ravens would beat the Steelers in the AFC Championship, then I would agree wholeheartedly. And believe me, I will be rooting for you if we do face the Steelers (not that I need more reasons to root for us against the Steelers  ).

Right now I want us to beat the Titans more than anything, I can deal with the rest once that is over. But if I am choosing my opponents, I am choosing the Chargers over the Steelers (this is assuming our secondary's health status stays the same as it was for Miami, which is a huge point in picking my preferred match up).
i think it would be a better game if you guys played the steelers

an afc north rivalry matchup for all the marbles

whats better then that
I agree, although I would hate losing to you guys three times in one season. But winning when it really counts would also beat really great.

I don't really want to travel cross country if we win, so I would rather play the Steelers, a team we are familiar with. But we have a very tough game this week, and the Steelers do too.

I think all the ravens show vacation in Tennessee for the week, get use to the environment and everything, practice at a local college or something, if allowed.

Its dumb, but it could work out.

EDIT- wrong thread. :D whoops.

In all honesty i think no, I know i would prefer to play the Steelers. Thier offense sucks and Worthlessberger is one 2006 Bart Scott coming thru untouched hit away from paralisys. I think we would struggle bringing down Antonio Gates in open space as well as Darren Sproles. Gates is too big of a target for our DBs and Sproles would run right past them cuz our secondary cant tackle worth @#!^
