He signed a 3 year fully guaranteed deal for 1.7 million

Way off what I thought.

I thought UDFA contracts had a cap and were only 1 year.

All UDFA contracts are 3 years, renegotiable after 2.

And to add on, the signing bonuses are limited to around $80,000 per team.  You can work around that though by guaranteeing base salary as the Cowboys have done here.

Collins agent stated that if he wasn't drafted in the 2-3 round he would not sign with a team. If the ravens had drafted him he would have refused to sign and re-entered the 2016 draft, by no team drafting him he was not eligible to enter next years draft.

It would have been an absolute wasted pick.

NFL said he couldn't reenter the draft, even before he went undrafted. He tried to switch over to the supplemental draft but that also got denied. Still, it was pretty big risk and we aren't hurting at guard or tackle.

Dallas got much better. I personally think we dropped the ball by not using our 6th rounder on La'el Collins. Right off the bat the cops said he wasn't a suspect. Oh well, hopefully we can lock up both Yanda and KO.

Crazy to think that they got three projected first round picks in the same draft. One was actually a first round pick, one was a guy who was projected in the top five at one point in the second round, and then a sure fire first round pick without the allegations that came out as an UDFA.

So Cowboys come out of draft with CB Byron Jones, DE Randy Gregory, OL La'el Collins - three players once projected as first-round picks.

The Patriots are another side who've been making money off guys with character concerns. Sometimes it gets them Aqib Talib on the cheap. Other times it gets them, well, Aaron Hernandez.

If we had used a 4th pick or later on him we would of had 4 guys who were at once 1st round pick projections in Perriman, Maxx and Carl.
