Pretty sure almost everyone liked Smelter better. But he went to SF in round 5. And he's expected not to play much this season to let his knee heal.

The most recent article said Engram spent a lot of time working with Waller so far in rookie mini camps.  I feel like I read somewhere that Engram really wanted Waller to be drafted by us so this might be a good sign.  Could be that Bobby sees the potential and is determined to make sure Waller makes the 53 man roster.  Either way, Engram's been great for the team so far so I'm excited about this

I liked this pick alot. I dont know why. He is just a big dude who I think can really help the offense. I hope he makes the team but it looks tough.

Let's see if there's room... Steve Smith Sr, Breshad Perriman, Marlon Brown, Kamar Aiken, Michael Campanaro makes 5... if we carry 6 it'll be between Waller, Jeremy Butler, and a few other camp bodies.

You could see Campanaro being cut because of durability issues.

I sincerely doubt it.

They traded back into last years draft to get him, he showed serious potential in limited snaps last year, is the only receiver on the roster that provides his unique size/quickness/route running, and is one of the few guys on the roster being considered as our full time returner.

And I don't think a couple nagging injuries in his 1 and only season so far constitutes "durability issues." That's quite a leap. And before you say anything yes I know about his injuries in college and no I don't care. Nothing serious.

Camp is as near a lock to make the team as any receiver. SSS and Perriman are the only two that I think are more guaranteed a spot than Camp.

Waller looks pretty smooth in his breaks in the most recent rookie camp sneak peek.
Hopefully we have found our Megatron-type (they both went to GT) WR to step in opposite Perriman when Smitty retires.

I'm very excited for the upcoming season(s)!

De'Andre Carter will take his job for sure !

You know, you're very astute for a Cogenhagener.  You're joking right?  You're really an NFL scout aren't you?

If not, I hereby award you Polynesian with the honorary title of "Astute Judge of NFL Caliber Wide Receiver Talent".  There's a medal as well and a cup of coffee.  But seriously, I'm impressed.

Agree. It would be extreeeeemely unlikely for the Ravens to cut a 4th round pick. Waller has so much going for him (size/speed, including no pressure to be an immediate contributor) as a situational receiver that all he really needs to do is stay healthy, get better, show sustained improvement. This draft class of receivers, both wide & tight, sets us up nicely for years to come.

Waller was picked in 6th round but yes - unless he completely bombs a training camp, I don't see him anywhere but on 53.

I'll take 3/4s of Megatron

He said he only took a look at the training camp video. A little harsh man.

Stephen Hill went to GT as well.....

Demetrius Thomas. So what if Waller came out of a running school. Look at who else came from GT.

Demaryius Thomas did come from GT. he was a projected first rounder. Stephen Hill was a poor route runner who's draft stock was fluffed by high yards and a fast 40. I'm hoping our GT receiver stands out and pans out. Our last yellow Jacket, Anthony Allen didn't fare too well

My bad...getting my Wallers and Walkers confused. :)

Here's Waller matched up with PJ Williams if you're interested, one of the drafts top 8 CB's for sure.

there is one big difference between him and streeter.

weight..and hands.

hes 240 pounds..the same as calvin johnson..hes even taller than calvin!

streeter was much much lighter with smaller hands.

lets see how we can develop him. he could be our plaxico burress with a bit more speed.

from rotoworld

Ravens selected Georgia Tech WR Darren Waller with the No. 204 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
Waller (6'6/238) made 22 starts in four seasons at Georgia Tech, tallying 51 receptions for 971 yards (19.0 YPR) and nine TDs. A freakish athlete for his size, Waller ran 4.46 in Indianapolis with a 37-inch vertical and 10-foot-5 broad jump. Waller needs a lot of technical work — most Yellow Jackets wideouts do — but he's smart (34 Wonderlic score), flashed dominant high-pointing ability in the ACC and offers starting-caliber upside as a vertical weapon.

i like the wonderlic part.

I hate getting excited about late picks especially WRs when it comes to us, but how did a player like this fall to us?

Probably due to the sheer depth of the position and the system he's coming out of.

I get that, but with his rare combo of soft hands, an elite frame and feet for his size.  What would make you take 25 other WRs in the draft before him.  Oh well, Im fine with it! lol

Pretty much what Sami said.  Not enough footage on him for teams to risk higher draft picks.  He'd have likely been highly sought after if he went undrafted.  Hopefully their loss is our gain

I can't speak for coaches but a 6'6, 4.4 speed WR weighing 240 that can actually catch is all I need to know to take out a flyer.  If he never becomes a good route runner, you still have a #3 to send deep (see Steelers and Bryant) and an endzone jump ball threat.  That alone is worthy of a 5th rounder imo and we got him in the 6th

why was he suspended? That is my only concern for him. IDC if he never learns a route in his life, with that size and hands he should be a problem for other teams.

Word has it that his suspension was for marijuana use.  I hesitate to say it because I've not seen anything concrete in that regard. It's filtered out.

I consider myself a good judge of athletic players.  If Darren Waller is as smart as they think and smart enough to not mess with drugs considering the gifts God has bestowed him with. We are in for a marvelous ride with this guy.

There was not a lot of film, but the film that there was, was good film. You could see it and his QB was not a good QB.

When Flacco throws the ball his way, its gonna be special.
