Welcome to Baltimore: Za'Darius Smith, Javorius Allen and Tray Walker

248 posts in this topic

By you saying that he has been barely asked to drop into coverage is a statement that I now know you haven't done much research on Dupree. Every analyst that I have read, has stated that dropping into coverage is the best part of his game.

And that statement shows me you've only read analyst projections and not watched the tape. All those analysts say that bc of his athleticism and fluid movement he should be effective in coverage - meaning he has the traits necessary to excel - not that it's a strength in his game currently.

Agreed. Just watched that video segment with him, and he definitely has a likeable personality - I'm really pulling for him to succeed.

As a side note, is anyone getting tired of all the Pernell McPhee comparisons? It's like no one can say anything about Smith without bringing up McPhee. I understand he was drafted in part to replace McPhee (and the physical resemblance), but enough is enough. Let the guy make his own name and carve his own legacy.

As a correction officer in training I OREDER you to put the other parentheses on the end of your last sentance

I came looking for the thread on Zadarius to post the same thing. This kid has such a big lovable personality man! He is just fun to watch. He looks perpetually happy just to be here! He is going to be a monster and the second year in a row that the Steelers will find out their scouting department is second rate to ours.

As a quiet shadow controller, I ORDER you to stop correcting until the training is complete.

With Jimmy, Webb, Kyle, Melvin and Asa in front of Tray Walker I doubt he'll EVER play, not sure how good this pick was. Only way I see him playing during his rookie contract is if multiple people either get hurt or just suck(or Webb retired soon but even then Melvin still ahead of him).

…because all of those guys will still be here in 3 years, right?

Melvin, Jimmy and Arlington in theory should be here. Jimmy and Arlington are signed on for that long and Melvin is good and cheap.

And I'm sure there won't be rotations, injuries, etc...

Melvin still has lots to prove  and overall there's no telling how good Tray Walker can be. Walker has good upside and you can never have too many corners .

CB rotations? Didn't know that was a thing. Like I said early "I see your point".

I'm cautiously excited for Tray Walker. I think it's underrated how in-tune Ozzie is with the HBCU (Historically Black College/University) pipeline. Harewood was a miss but Webb and now B. Williams have been really solid additions. Hopefully Walker is next.

I don't think you can call Harewood a miss considering he proved to be a valuable depth piece and even started, which is huge for a sixth rounder, whereas the other two were third rounders

It's just my opinion. I think any time you can get starts out of someone that late, you're doing something right.

I think Walker could be the next Webb or the next Jackson or even the next Brown. I don't see him as the next Marc Anthony. He could he a pro bowl player (Webb, should've made it when he had that great year), an average player who may never contribute (Jackson), or a total bust for the most part (Brown). It's too early to say, but I wouldn't call Melvin a lock to do anything, even if I like him. He could be a one year wonder. They exist.

They're rare. For his first year playing Melvin did pretty good. WAY better than Jimmy did his first time playing. When Webb goes down this coming season Melvin's being moved to #2 CB.(the secondary might actually play better after that)

I can't disagree with this any more than I do. I'm not sure how you can say this. Jimmy Smith was never bad. It's really acc argument that never holds up. Yes, Smith has his struggles, especially the double move, but he was hardly worse than how Melvin played against the Patriots. I'm not even saying Melvin played bad. I just think Smith played better than given credit.

Julio beat him bad that one preseason game but that is the only time I recall and that game was a major turning point for him

Melvin was apperently injuried and he was going against arguably the GOAT with multiple good WR's and Tightends. I'll cut him some slack.

Regarding Buck Allen - I'm excited.  Given his pass-catching ability and general shiftiness in space, I think Joe will look his way a lot when he's on the field.  Also...if you caught his meet the rookies interview, he's been through some stuff and has a little Ray Lewis-like leadership in him.  Just what I picked up watching the interview.

As long as Flacco doesn't over abuse him like he did with Rice, I remember back when 5 out of 10 of Joes throws were 3 yard dump offs to Rice. Cringe worthy.

Yeah when I wrote that I was thinking the same thing in the back of my mind.
