Welcome to Baltimore, Carl Davis

131 posts in this topic

I was starting to wonder what had happened to Ozzie after taking two straight weapons, but all normalcy resumes with one of his specials.

Welcome aboard Carl Davis, a fantastic value player with huge upside at a position we tend to develop really well. Better yet, we get him out of that ugly black and gold.

I'm excited to see what he can do with the absolute glut of stars we have around him.

1 technique freak. He has the measurable and has a knack for sacking QB. He is going to need some serious coaching and discipline for him to be productive BC ravens DEFENSE dont play!

I like Davis a lot.  The motor is inconsistent, but we develop DL so well.

Carl Davis in round 3 is a steal! Front 3 of Jernigan, Williams, Davis is scary. Love the Williams pick too and if Perriman can play to his potential, this could be a great draft! Priorities tomorrow have to be cornerback and pass rusher.

I'm certain that this is a pick they couldn't believe was still on the board late in the 3rd.

Yeah. I think it's like Urban, where they had him rated so high they said "Go for it."

Speaking of which, with him and KLM coming back, who needs a secondary?

Iowa black and gold isn't that ugly ;) Excited to have him as an Iowa fan!

even though it looks the same, black and  yellow is different than black and gold :-)

What I really like about this pick is Davis is an absolute beast when he isn't fatigued and playing a high percentage of snaps where he seems to fade. With our DL rotation we can keep him fresh and get the most out of him while he's on the field. This is a talented kid who needed an established locker room to reign him in and set the bar high for his effort on the field. This is definitely that ideal fit for him from that stand point.

I think Davis is a competitive guy and he will raise his focus and effort because that's the standard he will be held to by his coaches and teammates here.

Davis plays with a mean streak and a good amount of nasty. Can't wait to see him next to Jernigan and Williams.

So with it being April and still way early how does this shake up our line..

I don't know Davis that well so what kind of rotation are we looking at possibly?

Read a couple on twitter saying he would come in and start as our 1 tech automatically which I don't think so

I'm curious where we put Williams and Davis now. Or if we just keep them in rotation. Our 4-3 and goaline looks are going to be disgusting

I think he'll get the odd look as a 5-tech, but he'll mostly be an interior guy so you'd be looking at a rotational 1-tech for the most part imo. I see him coming in with a similar role to Jernigan this past season - being regularly rotated in to keep the pressure coming but also being shuffled around the line to keep the OL on their toes. One interesting idea I've seen floating around is to make him a splash 3-tech who can come in and scare the QB every now and then.

He looks like a steal to me. I'm happy with the way this draft has unfolded so far. Once we condition him we might have a star.

Since this is a rah-rah optimism thread, check out this swim move to break the pocket and push the QB off his spot.

LkchPzd.gif

The scouting report where I found that gif said he's a deadset liability against the run, and I can kinda see where they're coming from. There are a lot of plays where he can manhandle his guy, disengage and just stuff the run himself, but there are also times where he can just get taken out of the play altogether. He's a bit of a work-in-progress as a run defender, but I see no reason why we couldn't improve him in a big way.

i thought williams was a brilliant value, until this happened.

this is why we say in ozzie we trust. jesus god almighty were gonna win the super bowl every year until these rookie contracts are up! lol, not really, but still. hell of a draft here. even the most optimistic of mocks on the draft forums didnt look this good

to be honest..the only guy i am totally 100% sold on is Maxx

Perriman feels like another case of athlete over actual football skills. He doesn't even really play to his speed because he isn't fluid in his movements and his football IQ isn't great.

Carl Davis i admit i haven't watched much of..but from what i've read he's been crazy inconsistent..

its not been a perfect draft..but maxx williams is a future pro bowler..that i can guarantee you all

I think I'd have picked henry anderson over carl davis. Just seems less risky and more productive,
