[News] Late For Work 5/1: Torrey Smith, Mel Kiper React To Newest Receiver Breshad Perriman

I forced myself to be indifferent with this pick because nobody can say one way or another how he's going to do until the season is well underway. Best of luck to our new WR and welcome to Baltimore!

Me too (but not about Mosley) . I freaked out, I focused the drops. There is just something unsettling about the Ravens taking offense in the first.  Read that scouting report on Andre Johnson that BmoreB posted, eerie how similar they are, that changed my whole perspective.

For those that didn't see it, pretty good stuff... check it out.

Here goes that word again "potential". I really hope this guy works out, but given the Ravens awful history of drafting WRs, and his penchant for pass dropping, it is a huge risk. Besides, we didn't lose to the Patriots by not having a WR. We lost because our secondary stinks. Then we see the available players, and lo and behold, the Ravens don't take the CB that they need. Dallas took him with the next pick. Two picks later the best S on the board is gone. Sorry to disagree but I think we missed the boat again.

I would not have given you all those negs but you do realize the CB and S you're talking about also have "potential" to be shutdowns or busts. Yes, those positions are positions of need but it's only day 1 and another position of need is now filled.

Looking forward to day 2 and 3.

The draft needs to go back to NY, too many technical difficulties and mishaps, plus it just didn't quite feel the same. There just something about radio city and the draft that can't really be matched.

It should make you feel even better that "concentration drops" and lack of polish on routes were on Odell Beckham Jr.'s scouting report as well, and he may have the best hands in the league. Also, most of Perriman's drops were early on. He didn't have any drops in his last 4 games or at pro day. Concentration drops are not the same thing as having bad hands. His scouting report also says he has a great catch radius and makes difficult catches look easy. Michael Irvin said nobody made more plays on 3rd and 4th down, so he seems to have great hands in big moments when it matters most.

Here's OBJ's scouting report:

Prisco had him drafted at 14 on the day of the draft at CBSsports.com If he wants to proclaim boom or bust now than we might as well not show up for the first game and start flipping burgers. Move on. He's a good pick.

I don't think proclaiming him to be boom or bust is an indication of a bad pick. Those were the exact words I used to describe our selection the moment we took him. If calling it a high risk/high reward pick is more appealing, then go with that. No matter how we characterize it, we are looking at a guy that's got massive potential, but the concerns are justified.

I think the fact that Prisco stated he was to be drafted at 14 (which is where a lot of people including myself anticipated him going as well) shows he was a value and, if he pans out, a steal.

Are the Ravens changing the back last name color yellow because it looks cool on Perriman Jersey.

I like the gold letters as well.

We lost to the Pats because our secondary was decimated with injuries. I think there is no doubt we need to address that area, but address it with depth and not necessarily with a 1st rounder. What we did lose since that Pats game, however, was 2 WRs that were our only deep threats. You can't have a franchise QB with a cannon of an arm and have his weapons be a 5'9" 36 year old and 3 or 4 serviceable WRs.

Leading into the draft, I do not think there was a narrative more tiresome than the notion that we can't draft a WR. Saying it for the last time, but when you're only top 2 round selections were Torrey (did not exceed, but certainly met expectations as a late 2nd rounder) and 2 other guys selected over 10 years ago, that isn't a significant enough sample size to give such a harsh evaluation. To think a franchise should just ignore a given position based on that "awful" history is just silly.

You say he is a "huge" risk. Well, I'm not sure about "huge", but definitely a higher risk pick than we've made in a long time. But it is a calculated risk and the payoff could be enormous.

Quite frankly, I don't give a crap what Torrey Smith says. I don't know why we still cover that money chaser. He walked out on us. I thought that was the end of it.

Have some respect for a guy that gave the ravens 4 years at a bargain price! Have respect for a guy that played for the ravens for 3.4 million combined when his true value was closer to 9 mil a year and never ever complained. Have some respect for a guy that gave so much time and money to the community! Have some respect for any player that compliments and wishes the best for the guy that's going to take his former job! Have some respect to a guy that played banged up on a regular basis for our team. Oh my lord have some Respect bro.......

When it comes to Torrey smith cashin out......

1- he's a (1 trick pony) speedster that could get hurt and loose that speed any day.

2- chances of the 49ers respecting the full duration of that 40 mil contract are slim.

3- he's earned the right to cash out at least 1 time in his football life.

Come on man

Marcus Peters, Melvin Gordon, Shane Ray, and Bud Dupree were all gone by the time we picked. For what we had left this was the best we could do. In my opinion, being left with this pick is a blessing in disguise. I know Ozzie wanted defense, but he got stuck with drafted the last elite 1st round receiver in the draft. I can't wait to see this kid develop. He is the most talented WR that we have ever had, and he is our best shot to finally having a franchise true #1 receiver.

I think this is the round we need to fearlessly move up to draft the player we covet who also had a first round grade. That is like having 4 first round picks the last 2 yrs.

The gold letters are awesome, I'm pretty sure that all of the 1'st rounders had that design. Looked best with purple and black.

The only knock IMO, from watching some highlights on him, is he seemed to go down to easily, he has to use his size to his advantage more, and run over the smaller CB's, YAC yards will be huge for him if he can do that.....

I agree 100%. He does have a magnetic attraction to the ground, but that can be coached up. And if he can get that fixed, he will be a very dynamic receiver in the NFL.

Im not gonna lie, when this pick was first made i didnt like it. I am starting to like it more and more though. We badly needed a burner to open up the offense. He brings this plus unlimited potential if he works at it. His hands are average, but he makes ridiculous contested catches. Most of his drops are when he is wide open, so I think its not that he has bad hands but he just is looking to run before he actually brings this in. I still do want another receiver in this draft and the guy I want is Stefon Diggs in like the 4th or 5th. He is a playmaker with the ball in his hands.

I was highly pleased when this kid skipped past #25 and Carolina's Pick ! He just needs to learn how to concentrate on making catches. I agree , I don't think it's his hands.....it's his concentration. Seems the bigger the moment....he just snatches the ball out of the air. He is a beast and can fly and is a bigger and faster Torrey Smith. He will go over the middle too !

Welcome aboard Breshad !!

Here was my post a few days ago in response to Mink/Downing's mock drafts and the negs I got for it.

[News] Ravens 7-Round 2015 Mock Draft

photo-thumb-23304.gif?_r=1356228205 Posted by BmoreB on 29 April 2015 - 01:31 PM

The only pick between the two they got right was Diggs in the 4th. Perriman will be the No.26 pick in the draft -7

To those that negged that post, now what ? Don't ever question me. lol

Go Ravens !!!!

Show off! Now tell us who we are picking next!

I'm really starting to hear more chatter from Harbs and the FO regarding Steven Means, prototype size for a edge rusher...6-3 260, convert him to a OLBer like we did with McPhee, and could have the ability to play with his hand in the dirt as well.....Will be watching this guy closely this year....

This is the first direct reference to Means by the group. First time Harbs and Ozzie alluded to having a dark horse stashed away, but this time Ozzie spelled him out. They must've seen something awesome about this kid to rave so much about him.

Torrey was the basic meaning of the words "Play like a Raven". He is a good person and good player while he was here. He got a bigger pay day and the best to him and his family. Welcome Perriman.

Since I was admittedly bummed out with the selection I have been scouring the internet to find favorable pieces on Breshad Perriman. This is just so I feel great about our pick and I think this article made me feel ecstatic at our selection. I hope it moves all the fence sitters squarely back in Breshad being an awesome pick camp!

I think they gold is just the draft color scheme, just like the NFL logo on the back of all the team hats are gold. It does look cool though.
