[News] Late For Work 5/1: Torrey Smith, Mel Kiper React To Newest Receiver Breshad Perriman

107 posts in this topic

not sure why anyone is upset about this pick, all i heard over the last month was get Joe weapons, we need someone to replace Torrey's speed....We hit the daily double with a 4.24 40 guy who happens to be 6-2 212.....And the drops, they came early, he finished the season strong, and at his pro day he didn't drop a thing....Every player drafted has pros and cons, i happen to think this guy can be groomed to be a stud....JMO...

Agreed, also like how well he boxes out cb's

I get good vibes about this guy. Has great mentors in Irvin and his father played NFL ball too. He has great speed and athleticism. his worst quality is the occasional 1 or 2 drops a game but he always comes through in the clutch. Torrey also had negative marks about his catching when we drafted him and he turned out really good. This guy is just bigger faster and stronger. Ravens also draft players based on intelligence also. I'm gonna be shocked if he has trouble learning our playbook and adjusting to the NFL game. Flacco is gonna make this kid look like a beast. Can't wait. Hope we find a way to get Maxx Williams tonight. If not him then best cb available.

Shane Ray wont have to worry about getting arrested for having some "weed" in Colorado so hes probably happy. I wonder why ESPN showed great highlights of all the players picked prior to #26 but ended up showing Perrimans drops? I guess cuz they don't like us. That's ok. They'll be showing his CATCHES starting in Sept.

Sami, the NFL site didn't even post the pick....We are hated, but that's okay, because we embrace the villain role.....:)

That scouting report on Andre Johnson mirroring the scouting report on Perriman flipped my opinion on him. Thank you BmoreB .

Quite frankly, I don't give a crap what Torrey Smith says. I don't know why we still cover that money chaser. He walked out on us. I thought that was the end of it.

Torrey does still comment on Ravens topics. Wonder what 49er fans think of that? Seems his heart is still in Baltimore and maybe some regret about leaving? IDK.

I never thought Perriman would fall to us. I fell in love with him over the last couple months. He isn't just a speedster. I think this guy can be the total package. Don't compare him to DHB or Stephen hill. Those guys were body-catchers and stiff as a board. Perriman has strong hands (just needs to work on his focus which is coachable), movement is incredibly fluid for his size, and he will go up to snag difficult balls as well as anyone. Irvin noted how big he was on 3rd and 4th downs. He is from a football family and is dedicated to and prepared for this level.

Don't need to trade up to get funchess or max; they'll be there trust me

Have to disagree. If we want Maxx we will have to trade up to get him. IMO

Torrey Smith still has deep roots in Baltimore, although he isn't a Raven, doesn't change who is as a person, and IMO he is a super stand up guy...Even Bisciotti was rooting for him to make the most money he could, because of the kind of person Torrey is, hating on him is wrong IMO....

Everyone should be excited. So much talent to be unleashed. New Raven to see on the field and the best part of this pick is I think he still hasn't hit his peak yet. A lot of players hit their peak in college and that's why they become busts, and then there are other players who hit their peak in the NFL and get good contracts. This kid got better every game he played and had no drops the last couple games and only 14 in 2 years... That is like 1 drop every other game that is no big deal. I'm excited I think he is a terrific addition to this offense. I think the Ravens front office finally got it right. Sounds like a humble guy. Glad he is here. Ready for day 2.

I'm thinking it's because he is still heavily involved in the community and needs to still be seen in a good light to Baltimore. IDKE

Prisco had him drafted at 14 on the day of the draft at CBSsports.com If he wants to proclaim boom or bust now than we might as well not show up for the first game and start flipping burgers. Move on. He's a good pick. Everyone is going for the corners and edge rushers early on so Ozzie gives them something to worry about. Torrey ran into some drops in his first training camp and promptly came out and broke the rookie record for TD's in his third game with three TDs. Who else was on the board? Gregory? Just what the Ravens don't need right now. Peters and Gordon were gone. Eddie Goldman? Malcolm Brown but there's no value there at this time. Byron Jones OK he may be good but the Ravens needed some inspiration. A kick start if u will. If they got Dorsett it would just be soso. Sure a first round WR but nothing special. You got the mid rounds besides the number 2 and 3 to go. Just getting started.

Hey O'Dell Beckham Jr was drafted late in the first round last year and he turned out to be the best receiver taken. O yea and if you read his combine reports it said he has problem with drops. YEA RIGHT.

I agree as well. I don't think Maxx Williams will last that long. He will go in the top half of the 2nd.

Here was my post a few days ago in response to Mink/Downing's mock drafts and the negs I got for it.

[News] Ravens 7-Round 2015 Mock Draft

photo-thumb-23304.gif?_r=1356228205 Posted by BmoreB on 29 April 2015 - 01:31 PM

The only pick between the two they got right was Diggs in the 4th. Perriman will be the No.26 pick in the draft -7

To those that negged that post, now what ? Don't ever question me. lol

Go Ravens !!!!

GO Ravens... ODB was picked 12th overall last season. That's not even remotely close to "late in the first round"

I saw three things from Perriman's game film:

1. When crossing the middle, he seemed to know how to catch the ball while getting hit - like most great TEs.

2. On go routes, he was less likely to get slowed down by an arm or hand (like Torrey was too often).

3. Good catch, great catch whatever: he was professional in his reaction with a "why get too excited about doing my job?"

So many players that have first round potential/ are first rounders are in the second round now, let's hope Ravens can scoop up a TE or CB right now.

This pick left me with an identical feeling I had when we drafted Mosley. Not very thrilled and somewhat bummed. However, boy was I wrong! I am hopeful I am just as wrong about Perriman as I was about Mosley! Go Ravens!

Like this pick, a bigger, stronger, faster and tougher version of T. Smith. Can run the whole route tree vs Torrey, who only ran one. Will fight for the ball, unlike Torrey (refer to NE playoff game). This is exactly what we needed to take advantage of one of Flacco's best attributes, throwing a great deep ball.

I think our next two picks will be a CB and TE.

Me too (but not about Mosley) . I freaked out, I focused the drops. There is just something unsettling about the Ravens taking offense in the first.  Read that scouting report on Andre Johnson that BmoreB posted, eerie how similar they are, that changed my whole perspective.
