[News] Round 1: Ravens Select WR Breshad Perriman With Top Pick

90 posts in this topic

OMG! Just a ridiculous pick. This guy dropped a bunch of passes. I don't get why the Ravens are so enamored with the WR position that they take these kinds of guys. There was a bonafide CB taken next by Dallas and a bonafide S taken two picks later. Either would have helped the Ravens a lot more than this guy. How many more are they gonna blow before stopping this nonsense? Good Grief!

Relax brother we did good. Byrod jones was actually my fav cornerback in this draft as we'll but he is not a bonafide sure bet. He is physically a freak of nature ( like Permian ) but is a but raw and comes from a so and so system. Plus he has a bad shoulder which is another red flag.

The safety that Green Bay took is not even close to how you are describing him. He's a more raw version of brooks who we already have.

Randall is the best safety in a very weak class. Similar to max Williams the TE who no one reached for in the first.

Keep in mind the drop off from Permian to the next best WR is much more than the drop off at CB. There are still 3 CBs that have very similar skill sets to byron.

Keep your head up and let's hope we move up to mid 2nd round and snatch another impact player. I can name 8-10 guys still out there that can help our team come day one. 3 of them are CBs ;)

I really want to like this pick. So I do. I don't know much about the kid except what I am reading and hearing since last night. I hope he gets the hands calmed down. If he does I imagine we should see what Torrey gave us in pass-interference calls turn into completed catches. Torrey could get there but didn't seem to fight for the ball or adjust to it in the air. That is what I am hoping to see change with Perriman. Can we trade up tonight and also get Strong? :) Just saying.

I was on to Perriman when I first heard his name and went out on the web and started watching his tape. I made comments here that I would be happy if we got him and I rated him above Strong and a couple others that the pundits said were better. At that time which was late January, he wasn't even on Mayocks top 5 receivers but everyone else saw the same thing I did. The game definitely does not appear to be too big for him since he grew up around football and he seems comfortable on the field. My projection is he will develop and actually be better than T Smith (although I loved Torrey when he was here). Based on the draft had Perriman not been there, I would have agreed with Ozzie to move back and try to snatch up Maxx Williams or Funchess. Now with Perriman if we get one of those guys or Heuerman we will be set on offense.

Bat-mite,

I think anyone the Ravens take in the first round is EXPECTED to be a starter. I think this is true of any 1st round selections. 1st round talent guys that need time to develop usually fall to later rounds. This is my expectation. I would be very surprised to see him riding the bench early unless an injury of course.

Just found out he only had 14 drops over 3 seasons in college football.... And people are making a big deal out of it.... I think "experts" just bashed him for a stupid reason and he fell to us. I'm not even mad. I'm pretty sure Steve Smith had 14 last season... This kid will see the field a lot this season. The more I find out about him the happier I get.

Well there you go. Everybody wanted Ozzie to go wr in the first so I hope their happy. Plus he's a big bodied gazelle. I really thought for a minute Shane Ray was going to fall right into our lap, but when I saw Denver trade up I knew. The way the board shook out we almost had no choice but to grab a wide receiver. I thought for a second we might go jaleon strong- or trade back into the early 2nd- but I pretty much knew it would be perriman with who was left. I'm happy. Not thrilled about the concentration drops but that is something that can be worked on. The upside is much greater. All in all I was somewhat suprised with the lack of trades and what not but in hindsight it makes sense. Man how sweet would it have been to be in that war room with Ozzie and Eric though?

Technically Nick that is not always the case when jimmy was drafted in the first round he started on special teams and then got hurt and then lost the starting job his second season to corey graham so more than likely perriman won't start right away but he will compete and of course play some special teams since aiken camp and marlon brown and jeremy butler will all be vying for that top spot across from steve smith sr

Relaxxx, drops are simple to correct. Why? Passes thrown his way will be more accurate,

he will have much better coaching in the NFL than he did in college and he gets to learn from SSS. Watch out Squealers, Browns and Bengirls.

Great kid with NFL pedigree, Fast Physical and he attacks the ball, his knock is he had 14 drops over the past 2 seasons, but his last few games last year he had zero drops, zero drops at the combine and zero drops at pro day and the private workouts for the Ravens. I really think we have found a guy with true number one potential and his size and skill set reminds me of Julio Jones, but a tad faster.

The following quote was made in an article here yesterday before the draft " ... there's a lot of talented pass catchers that should be available later in the first round."

I commented... if that is the case, please take one instead of trading out of the 1st round.

Funny to hear that we were poised to trade back - if not for this kid being available. Glad to see we showed the courage to take a little risk with the hopes of getting an eventual true #1 receiver for Flacco to use as a killer weapon.

As of now, OLB Eli Harold is the prize for us in the 2nd round if he can fall far enough. If he gets taken, I'm thinking maybe CB Rollins or TE Funchess. I don't think Maxx Williams will fall all the way to us.

Funchess is who I was thinking, although I'd jump all over Williams if he's there...

Was a good pick but I have to wonder whether trading down 7 spots for an extra day two pick and coming away with someone like Strong wouldn't have been the safer bet. time will tell.

I wouldn't be surprised if they took Strong in round 2, if he falls that far...

I hope the Raven's remaining board looks like this: Williams, Collins, Funchess, Walford. If we could get 2 tight ends that would be excellent.

I really like the pick. His issues are all things that can easily be improved with mentoring and coaching. I think it helps to have a father who played the same position too and can help tutor his son on the subtlties of route running/concentration when the kid is not with the team. Yes he is still a little raw, but remember he is only 21, plenty of time for him to grow.

He looks bigger, stronger and more athletic than Torrey. He appears willing to lay himself out for the catch too. There is hope.

After sleeping on it I'm starting to be more positive. Hopefully he will work hard to improve his negatives. Some of his drops were concentration drops and not lack of skills so he just has to learn to focus. Route running is coachable so I'm not concerned with that. Plus he's got Steve to coach him up if he's willing to learn.

I can't believe everybody was complaining about oz not selecting Wrs in the first. Just read that the patriots haven't selected one in the first since 1996!!

I think we might have found a diamond. Please, Please, Please... learn from the Jedi Master on the other side from you. If he picks up Smith's grit and work ethic, he might be great.

Has anyone noticed the drop in enthusiasm with this pick? Alot of depth at wr. All the way down to the unrestricted's that were picked up.

I guess it depends on who you talk to - there were a good many fans that fell for the "bad hands" narrative, but I've been excited about this pick since draft day. In fact, I'm even more enthused after successful OTAs and minicamps to see him develop into the true #1 receiver we've been waiting for. Considering the reports from outside of this site that confirm he has legit hands, as well as those that list him at the top of potential rookie playmakers, and even OROY candidates (yes, I know the pads haven't been on, but he must have shown the writers something to make those suggestions), I think that enthusiasm is justified,

To be honest ive actually seen more of a drop in enthusiam for waller, ppl were ecstatic for this guy the first couple weeks after the draft and lately i havent heard much other than a report about him having a not so great minicamp. I think its just that everybody has said everything there is to say and were all just ready for some freakin football.
