[News] Round 1: Ravens Select WR Breshad Perriman With Top Pick

90 posts in this topic

I'm surprised that the Ravens finally picked a wr in the first round. This guy is Torrey smith on steroids, he's bigger faster an more physical. Now all we need is a te an the rest of the draft picks can be used on defense.

I didn't think he'd drop that far honestly. Glad he did. Keep the ball high and he excels. Most of his drops tend to be from balls thrown below shoulder level. Shouldn't be a big problem with the long ball. He's a bigger faster T. Smith with more upside. Can't complain about this choice. He'll have a much better QB throwing to him. That should help with some drops.

We essentially replaced Torrey with a somewhat thicker, taller, and faster (if anyone thought that was possible) guy. While Torrey got a 40 million dollar contract, we got this kid for 5 years at a post- 2011 CBA rookie wage scale.

I'll take it.

If anyone is interested, the 26th picks salary breaks down like this:

2015 - 1.4 million

2016 - 1.7 million

2017 - 2.1 million

2018 - 2.5 million

With option for 5th year 2019 - 6.8 million

It's a 5 year 15.5 million contract.

Compare that to the 40+ Torrey was demanding.

This is how you build consistent winners.

The complimentary grouping couldn't be better for Perriman. Joe's big arm plus Steve Smith's mentorship plus Marc Trestman's experience equals unlimited upside.

Who else picked Perriman in the draft poll the other day? :D

I was really hoping he fell to us (and surprised he did, actually), but with his size, speed, talent and football bloodline, I think he could turn out to be the stud WR we've been waiting for in Ravens Nation.

On Gil Brandt's top 140 players on NFL.com he had Perriman as the 10th best player in the draft. Here is another fun fact, DeVante Parker was #11 on that same list, behind Perriman. Perriman is the same height, and faster than Kevin White. Guys, yes his routes are not impressive, and yes his hands need some polishing, but the potential this guy has is ridiculous; and I think that potential is why the Ravens drafted him.

As of now, OLB Eli Harold is the prize for us in the 2nd round if he can fall far enough. If he gets taken, I'm thinking maybe CB Rollins or TE Funchess. I don't think Maxx Williams will fall all the way to us.

and on another note, the Jerry Jones award for the Jerry Jonesiest pick in the first round goes to

<drum roll>

Jerry Jones .... taking the award back off the Browns who snatched it away last year.

I can't believe he wasn't taken before 26. The whole draft I just kept saying Perimman will land here. And of course the Browns make a stupid draft choice & that's when I knew Ravens would land him! Thank you everyone ahead of us :)

Wanted him all along and was amazed he dropped that far. I don't know if the Ravens bluffed out the Broncos re: Ray but the talking heads said the B's were sure the R's were going to nab the DE, if available.

Anyway you look at it, Perriman was just what the Ravens needed.

With Steve Smith playing out the end of his career and becoming a very influential mentor, there is no way this kid winds up being a dud. Flacco to Perriman sounds like a household name.

I just did a ton of research on him. I compared him to the top 10 receivers of last years, and this years, drafts and he might be the most talented one out of all of them. Now remember, that has nothing to do with the on field performance, but with height, speed, hand size, vertical jump, arm length, and strength, he is the superior all around receiver. Kevin White and Perriman are almost identical, but Perriman is faster. One scout clocked him at a 4.16 at Perriman's pro day. AT 6'3 THATS RIDICULOUS. Guys%u2026. If we can get him polished the sky is literally the limit.

OMG! Just a ridiculous pick. This guy dropped a bunch of passes. I don't get why the Ravens are so enamored with the WR position that they take these kinds of guys. There was a bonafide CB taken next by Dallas and a bonafide S taken two picks later. Either would have helped the Ravens a lot more than this guy. How many more are they gonna blow before stopping this nonsense? Good Grief!

I actually like this pick. With all the elite corners and pass rushers gone, I honestly thought we would trade back. But Breshad Perriman has unlimited upside and has the people around him (Trestman and Steve Smith Sr.) to unlock it. And for those complaining about his drops, Kelvin Benjamin had the same issue coming in as well as Martavis Bryant and Donte Moncrief, all receivers that made big contributions to their respective teams. This is why they're called prospects. If you think you're gonna get an All-Pro player with your first pick, you're kidding yourself. Personally, if Ozzie trusts this guy, I have no reason not to.

This was a good pick. This kid is going to come on fighting for a starting job, and should be able to get it. I guess we know what's coming next. Defensive player.

I see it this way, we got this kid at a good time, provided he keeps his nose clean, and listens and learns. It's a "no brainer" that the Ravens will re-negotiate Joe's contract somewhere in the next year or two, and extend it for at least 4 years. With this guy working with Joe and this coaching staff for that long, this could be an awesome pairing.

Welcome to Ravens, youngster. Stay strong. Stay healthy. Stay focused.

The more this pick sits with me the more I love it.

I agree; Ravens finally have a top tier receiver and not the 18th or 25th best in class.

Was a good pick but I have to wonder whether trading down 7 spots for an extra day two pick and coming away with someone like Strong wouldn't have been the safer bet. time will tell.

Torrey who? Great pick. Looking forward to watching this kid produce. Definitely did not see this one coming to us at our draft position. Happy with this pick for sure.

I just found out that Perriman had a hamstring injury that led to him missing out on the combine. If he would have ran a sub 4.3 at the combine, like he did at his pro day, then he would not have fallen to us at 26. This is a STEAL.

Has anyone looked at his YAC? I asked about this guy just last week. I like him My daughter went to UCF. They have a decent team, and have risen up the charts. I really do like this guy, but watching this highlight reel, it doesn't highlight that at all.

Good grief the draft has just started. Just because we got a WR first does not mean we can't get a good CB or safety in the next few rounds. Some fans can not be made happy no matter what we do lol. Go Ravens.

I don't see any similarities with Torrey Smith and I don't think the Ravens drafted him to be Torrey Smith 2.0. If they wanted Torrey Smith 2.0 they would've waited a round or two. This guy is just as good as Kevin White, DeVante Parker, and Amari Cooper size and speed wise overall. Overall I would compare him more to Andre Johnson back at college.
